net ads join
Good morning all:
When I do a net ads join from FC4 I get the following output and I'm not
quite sure what to make of it. Also, after I do a kinit, net ads join
and smb restart all my windows clients can connect fine. After I reboot
the server, the windows clients can not connect until I do another kinit
and net ads join. What am I missing?

memory reduction
As those of you who watch CVS will be aware Wayne has been
making progress in reducing memory requirements of rsync.
Much of what he has done has been the product of discussions
between he and myself that started a month ago with John Van
Essen.
Most recently Wayne has changed how the file_struct and its
associated data are allocated, eliminating the string areas.
Most of these changes have been

define using configuration file
Hi,
I have a define that use a configuration file. Most of the time this is
the same configuration file. Here this is a rsync configuration file.
The issue is that i want the define to take care of the management of
the file as only this define use it:
define filevault( $source, $destination, $recursif = ''true'',
$deletesource = ''delete'', $exclude =

StorNext CVFS
Morning All!
Anyone ever tried exporting a StorNext CVFS filesystem from a Linux box???
I?ve got this Samba server (3.5.6) running on CentOS 5.4 and it?s working
fine, exporting ext3, nfs and an IBM GPFS filesystem just fine. So I know
Samba is good an my configuration is working.
I tried to add the exportation of a StorNext CVFS volume and that doesn?t
work. All the other volumes still work

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Hi everyone, new to the list.
My apologies if this issue has already been covered, but I am having the
following problem with Samba:
Using Windows XP as a client, I am trying to see a Solaris system as a
server. Solaris is running Samba 2.4.2, and Windows 2000 sees it as a
server without any problems.
Windows XP, however, generates the error "The network name is no longer

Samba + Mac OS 9
Hi guys,
Is there anything out of the ordinary I have to do for an OS 9 Mac to be
able to talk to samba? When I try "connect to server" (or something
like that), it doesn't matter in what format I enter the IP address - I
simply cannot connect to it.
Thanks

Fw: Re: Why "\\" instead of simple "/" to specify a file path [modified]
Hi, I was following this thread and would like to ask is there any way to save and open a .RData file after using some Password. What I mean to say, how to make my workplace password-protected?
Also would like to know how same can be done for .R file.
Thanks for your time.
Thanks and regards,

Scaling Puppet 0.22.1 to hunderdes of nodes.
Hi,
My environment is composed of ~250 workstations hitting a single
puppetmaster server, which has been working fairly well up until now.
The most recent change has been a migration of a lot of remote file copy
objects which were previously handled with cfengine.
client side puppetd calls to the puppetmaster.getconfig method are
taking unreasonably long, on the order of 2-3 minutes. It

Can not set SPN errors (again)
Hello!
I see where this came up on the list a few months and never really ws
resolved. Someone resolved it by linking libnss_winbind ... But that's not
my problem...
I'm getting " Failed to join domain: failed to set machine spn: Operations
error" when I do a net ads join. I've used this user account (me) to join
many Samba 3.5.6 servers to the domain.

Windows app can't clean up temp files
A couple of my users use Solidworks which creates temp files that look like
~$drawing_name.sldrw in the directory that they?re opened in.
I?ve changed permissions till I?m blue in the face and can not get this
program to clean up it?s temp files. Whenever a user goes back into a
drawing they get permission denied on the temp files. This problem does not
happen when the files are hosted on a

Max files/buffer overflow
Hello All,
I am having an interesting issue where using the command ?rsync ?avP ?e ssh? seems to want to bail out on filesystems that have more than about 1.2 million files.
Using that same command on smaller filesystems works like a charm! The server is rsync 2.6.8 protocol 29 and the destination is rsync 2.6.3 protocol 28. The server is Fedora Core 4 and the client is Mac OS 10.5.2.

UID Matching
Good afternoon...
Currently my Unix and Windows UID's don't match, nowhere close to it. I use
AD for the Windows side of the house from a Win2K8 Server and I still use
NIS for the Unix/Linux side of the house. I don't do single sign-on yet, so
everyone in the building has a Windows account and a Unix account with two
different UID's, but the same username.
Now, I'm at a
