hash2 mangling alghorithm
I just want to warn people that want to use the new hashing algorithm for mangled names. And that note should also be put in the man page IMO. You must understand that changing the hashing algorithm on a production server may have unwanted side effects (this is why we maintain by default hash and not hash2 and why it was not back ported to 2.2 initially). Windows clients may save all around

Debian Binary Packages from samba.org
I'm reshaping Binary_Packages/Debian directory to allow us to release binary packages for both Woody and Sarge. You may expect some problems downloading our debs, while I try out the new trees. The good news are that there you will find samba 3.0.20b packages for Woody and Sarge as soon as our mirrors get in sync. I must thank Debian Samba maintainers, Eloy and Steve, for their work on

Binary_Packages/Debian
Dear users, I have uploaded the new 3.0.25a packages compiled for sarge. At the same time I have removed older 2.2.x and 3.0.x packages for Woody. Support for back porting packages to Woody was already discontinued, but older packages were still provided. As these packages were not updated after the recent security issues, I decided to remove them to avoid pushing people to use outdated and

Need information about the net ads user command
Trimming unrelated development mailing lists and people. Pankaj, it is very unpolite to waste a large amount of developer time by cross posting a large amount of development lists and people, for a user help question. Please Do not do that in future. What dependencies are tolerated for rsync ?
Dear list, I have had some requests, for some time now, to develop a patch to make it possible to use a better hashing algorithm than md5 (or md4) in rsync (even more so after the recent md5 collision attack on Certificate authorities). Aside the fact that this will require a new protocol version one of the requests I had is to use a FIPS certified library and not code up, yet again, our own

RE: Q: winbindd, unqualfied users, & name conflicts (a.k.a "Deathto 'winbind use default domain'!")
My opinion: Local users should always take precedence. People should specifically refer to local users as <SambaHostName>\localuser, if that is the form the SMB client insists on sending. Tacking on default domains and/or stripping domains to/from user names and "trying them out" is playing fast and loose with user identity and is a breeding ground for potential security holes.
