Added functionality --compare-file and --compare-auto
Recently various needs for multiple version handling were discussed and I put forward a plan of mine. Subsequently the proposal for a --compare-file=<FILE> switch had support, so I have implemented this. I have also implemented an experimental --compare-auto which decides which file to match against using a rule. Instructions for patch: 1. Install rsync-2.5.6 source 2. "patch -p1

patch draft for extended attributes on linux
This draft patch adds support for transferring extended attributes with a new --xattr option. It ought to work on Linux with XFS or ext2/ext3 filesystems with the SGI/bestbits attribute system. It is partially working, but there seems to be some kind of hang bug while transferring the file list. I suspect it might be provoking a problem in io.c. You need to rerun autoconf, autoheader and

Revised flags patch
Hi, first of all, sorry for taking so long. Unfortunately, some other tasks kept coming up. Anyway, attached is the version of the flags patch, that is based on the one I'm using with 2.6.9. It is against the rsync-3.0.0pre9 release. I've included the option name change from the repository, so the option is now called --fileflags. Improved from the previously distributed version is the

"rsync --daemon" and IPv4/v6 dual stack
on systems that has separate IPv4/v6 socket layer (i.e. IPv4 packet does not get routed to AF_INET6 socket) rsync --daemon would accept IPv6 sessions only. open_socket_in() tries to deal with the situation, but it was not enough. here's the patch. (it is required on all *BSDs to accept both IPv4 and IPv6 connections with --daemon mode) itojun --- ? configure.lineno ? lib/dummy

Bogus rsync "Success" message when out of disk space
To the rsync maintainers: When rsync 2.5.5 is pulling files and the target disk runs out of space, this is what the tail end of the message stream looks like (w/--verbose): write failed on games/ghostmaster/ectsdemo2002.zip : Success rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at receiver.c(243) rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (152112 bytes read so far) rsync error: error in rsync protocol

patch: timeout problem solved
hi, I made some changes to generator.c : - reading data, calculating checksums and sending it to the sender now happens in one loop. - the code has become shorter - it uses less memory - 2 malloc's less that may fail - the line will be used all the time - it should be a bit faster It seems to work for me, please have a look at it. You should run "make proto" after

[Patch] Require extra --stats to emit heap statistics
Since the heap statistics were added, I have viewed thousands of rsync reports (with --verbose and --stats), and not once have I had a need for them. So for me, they're just noise. Here is a 3-part patch to v2.5.6 that treats --stats in a similar fashion to --verbose in that additional --stats will get you more statistics. For this initial case, there's only one additional level of

[PATCH] fix install-strip target in Makefile
The first patch will make "make install-strip" work. The second spends a few cycles avoiding "1 files to consider." @RSYNC EXIT / @RSYNC EOF
tridge and Wayne in particular: I checked in this patch, which is meant to consolidate the ones from both of you for handling EOF in a modules list. The idea is that we need to handle servers that just close the socket rather than sending a nice ending token, but we want to keep EOF detection on in general. [PATCH] --timelimit and --stopat
Greetings, Upon a suggestion to improve the --timelimit patch, I have also added a --stopat option. You can get the patch from this URL and/or cut/paste it from below. http://www.terry.uga.edu/~jft/rsync-timelimit-stopat.patch.gz Here are the details... --timelimit=T This option allows you to specify the maximum number of minutes rsync will run for. new option suggestion '--backup-only'
Hi, How about adding now option '--backup-only' that means making backups only and don't change any destination files? (I posted similar patch a month ago, but the patch was made for nightly snapshot of 20020808, which was tooo old! Laugh at me...) I want to use rsync with LVM snapshot to make incremental backups like below: 1) Make LVM snapshot of file system and mount it.

[RFC] dynamic checksum size
Currently rsync has a bit of a problem with very large files. Dynamic block sizes were introduced to try handle that automatically if the user didn't specify a block size. Unfortunately that isn't enough and the block size would need to grow faster than the file. Besides, overly large block sizes mean large amounts of data need to be copied even for small changes. The maths indicate

[PATCH] time limit
Greetings, I have written a patch for rsync-2.6.1pre-2 which adds a --time-limit=T option. When this option is used rsync will stop after T minutes and exit. I think this option is useful when rsyncing a large amount of data during the night (non-busy hours), and then stopping when it is time for people to start using the network, during the day (busy hours). If this patch is accepted it may

[RFC][patch] dynamic rolling block and sum sizes II
Mark II of the patch set. The first patch (dynsumlen2.patch) increments the protocol version to support per-file dynamic block checksum sizes. It is a prerequisite for varsumlen2.patch. varsumlen2.patch implements per-file dynamic block and checksum sizes. The current block size calculation only applies to files between 7MB and 160MB setting the block size to 1/10,0000 of the file length for a

getaddrinfo() problem with AIX 4.3.3 and rsync 2.5.2?
I had to apply the following patch to the clientname.c check_name() function before I could successfully use "hosts allow" in rsyncd.conf. Without the patch I kept getting "rsync: forward name lookup for ... failed: Host not found" errors. These errors were produced by the rsync daemon, and putting in a debugging statement revealed that the port_buf being used had a large
