Hi, I want to backup my Linux system to remote Windows hard drive. Rsync can?t create softlink and preserve the EXT3 permission on the windows NTFS. My question is, in case of disaster I want to restore the whole / /var /usr partitions. Will the following restore steps will end in viable Linux. 1) Install the same Linux OS from scratch on new clean partitions. 2) Rsync to restore the data

Hi, I have a daily rsync job (in cron) that hangs in ps process list (linux) until i kill it. Hello, What would be the expected behaviour of rsync, synchronizing a file that is changing in size. If I have a file ( say 100G ) that is being gzipped, and I start an rsync of that file system to a remote location, would rsync just send the data of that gzip file that exists on disk at that point in time, or would it keep looping seeing that the file is changing. I have changed /etc/sysconfig/nfs to specify port numbers for NFS daemons. Somehow statd is still starting up at random port number. Other damons are starting at properly at specified port numbers Any clues on what might be wrong? Any other location/setting that takes precedence over sysconfig/nfs ? That is the thing - rpc.statd does have rpcbind a pre-req. It looks like systemd is not handling this correctly.
