configure --with-rsh=CMD and default blocking-IO support
A while back I argued for adding a --with-rsh=CMD option to configure and got some general agreement that it would be a good thing (especially for systems that don't have rsh at all). However, the changes were never integrated into rsync. This patch adds the --with-rsh=CMD option to configure and modifies main.c to improve the blocking-IO setting code. The old code would set blocking_io to

problems with rsync in cygwin
Hi, I'm trying to set up rsync, with the transfers originating from a Win2K box and going to a Linux box. Both boxes are on my home LAN, so ssh is not required; I thought I would simply use the rsync protocol. I set up xinetd on my Linux box to start a rsync server when needed. My first attempts at a test run failed like so: $ rsync -a /cygdrive/c/installs/palm rsync://192.168.2.3/palm

rsync 3.0.x breaks behaviour of --one-file-system --relative --delete
Hi, I found that current rsync versions do something different when using --one-file-system --relative and --delete. This has all worked as expected with the old version (in our case those delivered with RHEL4 and 5) but it doesn't work correct in the 3.0.x version. I have opened a bug at RedHat because it's at least a regression for their upgrade from EL5.6 to EL5.7 which updated to

Hello Everyone: I've been trying to get rsync using --bwlimit using openssh for transport without success. howto enable ssh on connect to rsync daemon
Hi, I'm trying to setup automatic sync of files over SSH from node2 to node1. node2 is the "server" and node1 is the "client". I have setup rsync like this on the nodes which runs AIX (4.3.3 and 5.1): 1. Installed rsync from Linux Toolbox (rsync-2.5.4-1.aix4.3.ppc.rpm) on both nodes. 2. Added following to both nodes /etc/services file: rsync 873/tcp 3. Added

rsync differences between Fedora/Ubuntu?
Hello All, (I'm only one step above a user, so would appreciate any technical answers thoroughly explained. But if you're in a real rush, I could just forward your reply to a local wizard for translation.) With the script below, I use rsync to mirror the /boot partition and the / (without /boot) partition on to removable ATA/IDE hard drives. (Insertion/removal of mirror drives are

Problem with rsync on WinXP going to HP-UX or Linux
Hi, I can't get rsync from a PC to an HP-UX or Linux box to work, and am hoping for a pointer or two. I checked the FAQ and googled ... with no luck, so I hope this isn't a patently obvious newbie problem :) I just got interested in trying to use rsync to backup my WinXP PC to a Linux or HP-UX computer. I got the cygwin package from Robert Scholten's site at

BUG REPORT: latest rsync misinvokes ssh with user@host ...
The latest rsync (2.6.5) seems to invoke the transport specified by $RSYNC_RSH differently. I have this set to point at an ssh wrapper script (which is now I noticed), and an strace shows this: [archives/silva]#root@jazzbo*> strace -e trace=process -f /opt/bin/rsync -avHP /mnt/phat/archives/silva/. root@ali:/a/ali/home/............. rsync 2.5.5, "unexpected tag failures", Solaris 2.6 vs. 2.8, "--b locking-io" workaround
Hi, I have been having a problem that seems related to previously reported problems but persists. I am syncing from a 2.6 Solaris box to a 2.8 solaris box. All are running rsync 2.5.5. When I sync (commands simplified for example, always using rsh): 2.8box% rsync -e rsh 2.6box:/path/path/stuff/ /path/path/newstuff/ i.e., the 2.6 box is the server, I get spurious, persistent but inconsistent

HELP! rsync won't upload my .htpasswd files
Hello, I'm in the process of launching a site (http://www.intraspect.com <http://www.intraspect.com/> ). I'm using rsync to synchronize between our staging server and our production server. All of my files are uploading correctly except for a couple of .htpasswd files which reside in /var/apache/webscripts I'm guessing that they won't upload because they start with

protocol version mismatch
Hi, I am pretty new to rsync so this question might have a very trivial answer. Sorry for that then. (using google didn't work though) I want to synchronise the files from my laptop to my machine at work and back from time to time. Both machines have linux (the laptop has fedora core 2 with a 2.6.6 kernel and the remote machine redhat 9 with a 2.6.3 kernel) On the laptop I use rsync

The exclude option of Rsync not work right.
Hello, Can someone explain why my exclude option is not excluding filles as instructed in my script below. I have tried multiple methods and still have been unsuccessful in excluding the one file "test.sql". The methods I have tried are: 1. Removing EXTRAFLAG variable -a 2. Removing using -a 3. Option --include infront of --exclude and behind of --exclude. 4. rsync /software/testdir/
