synchronization issues...
Now that my encoder doesn't broadcast static anymore... I've run into another problem. Here's what I'm trying to do (tell me if I'm crazy, because there's probably a better way to do this...) My roommate have two separate computers (and two speaker systems) and would like to listen to the same stuff in the room. So, I figure, set up an icecast server, tune our media

[PATCH 2/2] Make the arm2gnu.pl converter handle apple specific details
Martin Storsjo wrote: > + [AC_MSG_RESULT([yes]); ARM2GNU_PARAMS="-apple"], I'd prefer --apple instead of -apple, but otherwise these patches both look good to me. Does Apple have equivalent machinery to any of the pieces you disabled? Those were: - object size calculations so debuggers can tell what function they're in - architecture flags so an

samba blamed for network problems (help!)
Howdy folks: Hi. It's me again. I've posted before about browsing problems, etc. Here's the setup: An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30, samba 1.9.18p8) and ~20 win95 (OSR/2.1) clients. We used to have Netware 4.11 until the new PC/lan guy decided we didn't it any more (our old server now runs

wine-20010305 MS Excel97 *.xls -> .xls.xls
Hi, If I open up a worksheet in MS Excel 97, the file name is modified by appending an extra .xls to the name. Multiple .xls's are possible, and it is not necessary to save the worksheet. I'm running Wine-20010305 compiled on a SuSE 7.0 running a stock 2.4.2 Linux kernel. MS Excel is being run from an existing Win98 system partition. Thought someone might want to know, Dick --

Howto: Extremely tight security rsync shell for backups
We've been using rsync since forever to back up all our servers and it's worked without a problem. But in a recent security review, we noted that our specific rsync backup host is using root keys to access the server, meaning that if the keys on the backup server were leaked/compromised in any fashion, that would provide r00t access to the servers being backed up. Since this

Still having trouble with copying large files
I had originally written about this problem last month (http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-November/085418.html) Since then, our company has added another Windows Fileserver which I'm trying to back up, and they are both having the problem. Because it happens on both servers, this leads me to believe it really is a problem with my Samba server. I've upgraded to 2.2.7a, as the

rsync fails with "Permission denied" errors on random files over NFS
Hi I use rsync for daily backups from a mailserver. Every day the mailserver pushes backup to the backupserver. Cron runs the command: rsync -q -zrlpt --specials --chmod=Du+rwx \ --rsh 'ssh -F /root/ssh/config -i /root/ssh/private.key -o UserKnownHostsFile=/root/ssh/known_hosts' \ --files-from=/root/include \ --exclude-from=/root/exclude \ --link-dest=../previous \ /

multiple --link-dest options
I use rsync to backup several servers to harddisk on a backupserver. To save space i use the --link-dest option which creates a hardlink to the file of the last backup if the file hasn?t changed. Under certain circumstances the file doesn?t exist in the last backup, but in the second last backup ore somwhere else. If for example a backup couldn?t be completed (maybe because of a loss of power)

scp partition "not a regular file"
Hi list, should it be possible to scp a partition with this command: scp /dev/sda7 backupserver:/backup/sda7.img I always get "not a regular file" - which is a clear and understandable error, but my googling tells me that some people are doing this - and it seems to work - at least at their systems. I know that I can avoid this by simply doing dd if=/dev/sda7 | ssh backupserver dd

Weird read.xls behavior
Dear list, I used read.xls to read in an excel file, which has both character and numeric columns. Everything seems fine except in the last column, I have this character value "ng/ml". When reading in, read.xls seems to add a space at the end of it, became "ng/ml ". How can I prevent read.xls doing so? Thanks. >read.xls(data, header=T, as.is=T) Jun [[alternative HTML

gdata read.xls() values format problem
Dear All, When I use read.xls() in gdata package to read xls files, I noticed an issue and couldn't find any solutions after I serched all previous posts. In the excel file, the number value, for example, is actually 2.3456789 but formatted as 2.3 (Format Cells ---> Decimal places:1). After I use read.xls() to import the excel file, I found that, in R, this number is read as the formatted
