Upgrade from 4.11.6 to 4.12.2 created authentication issues
Hello,
??????? I upgraded two DC's to 4.12.2 from 4.11.6 before I noticed
authentication issues with a couple Netgear ReadyNAS we have. For
reference I have a total of 6 DC's with 4 running 4.11.6 and two now
running 4.12.2.? I ran the usual ./configure,make,make install from tar
without issues. However running samba-tool drs showrepl I noticed a

Using rsync to backup user redirected documents on ReadyNAS
Hello,
Using Samba 4.4 as a DC on Ubuntu 12.04LTS. Users 'My Documents'
are redirected to a member server running Samba 4.1.17 on Debian Wheezy.
I joined the ReadyNAS to the DC and set permissions using file explorer.
When I ssh to the ReadyNAS, I see the following on the folder destination.
*drwxrwx---+ 1 administrator domain admins 20 Apr 1 10:55 pfms1*

Very very slow SAMBA sharing on Ubuntu (with StorjShare-CLI)
I’m using a decentralized data storage application named StorjShare-CLI :
https://github.com/Storj/storjshare-cli
This application store data into « nodes ». StorjShare-CLI can run 1 or
several « nodes » in order to store data located at different places.
On a given Ubuntu machine I’m running both nodes located on this machine
AND also nodes located on another machine (a Netgear ReadyNAS)

Error was Transport endpoint is not connected
Hello All
I used to back up a Mssql database (about 55GB) to a samba share without
any problems. The samba server "Server-A" was running version 3.4.7
We just got one of those "Netgear ReadyNas3200" things and I tried to
backup up to a share there which sometimes works and sometimes not in
wich case I get the following error:

Perhaps a Complicated Question
My network at home/home office is primarily a Windows environment.
However, I have 3 ReadyNAS Ultra machines which use NUT for UPS
monitoring.
The ReadyNAS devices are running a slightly modified Debian
(2.6.37.6.RNx86_64.2.4) with NUT 2.0.5.
What I would like to do is add some sort of web-based UPS monitoring on
my intranet web server (IIS 7.5 on 2008 R2), however nut-cgi appears to

OT: Replacing Venerable NAS
I have an original-label Infrant (now NetGear) ReadyNAS storage
appliance that's been running for 8+ years. Except for replacing its
power supply, it has not skipped a beat in all this time.
I use it primarily as a backup device (via NFS) for a couple of Linux
machines, (via SMB) for a couple of Windows PC's, and (via ftp) for web
sites at my hosting provider.
SMART+ reporting shows

What NAS device(s) do you use? And why?
If you use any NAS (or a SAN) devices, what do you use? And I'm
referring more to larger scale network storage than your home PC or
home theater system.
We've had very good experiences with our NetGear ReadyNAS devices but
I'm in the market for something new. The NetGear's aren't the cheapest
ones around but they do what it says on the box. My only real gripe
with them is the

Sorry, should've mentioned this is for home/home office. The ReadyNAS is
a four-bay unit, with 500GB disks. Will want a four-bay, probably with
1- or 2-TB disks.

Can tdbtool be installed on it's own?
Hi guys,
I have a Netgear ReadyNas that has Samba v3.4.5 installed on it. I'm having trouble accessing some tdb files and I'm wondering whether the app tdbtool can be installed on its own as it seems that Netgear have pulled it out.
I have windows domain users who get denied access for no reason and the events aren't being caught my the standard logs. Plus Netgear force the smb.conf

backup using rsync
i'm trying to backup the dovecot Maildir files over a cifs share.
source is a debian build, share is a readynas. i've been getting
rsync: mkstemp 'filename goes here' failed: Not a directory (20)
errors. rsync is v3.0. i believe this is related to the dovecot
file naming convention that includes characters such as ':' in the
filename. anyone else seeing

[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List,
I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to
hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc.
I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow
that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot
swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage,
and
can be directly attached to

Samba Permissions vs Linux Permissions
Hi,
I understand that Linux permissions override Samba permissions. But is it
also the case that the Samba permissions override the Linux permissions?
Example:
I have a samba share called "SHARE". This is disabled by default and is
configured for write access by group "MY_GROUP".
The permissions of all files and folders within /c/SHARE are 777
(rwxrwxrwx).
