[patch] add "--ignore" option
Hi,
The patch below adds a "--ignore" option to rsync, which means
"--exclude-but-dont-delete-even-if-we-specified--delete-excluded".
I need this for a few tasks, the simplest of which is to have rsync resist
trying to delete NetApp filers' ".snapshot" directories.
The change is fairly simple (the boolean filter returns become tri-state),
and works for me both

[PATCH] Batch-mode rewrite
Wayne,
Please consider the attached patch. This applies to the current
CVS, and is independant of patches/local-batch.diff. As a matter of
fact, I'm sure it would conflict heavily with local-batch.diff.
This version of batch mode has a couple distinguishing features:
Write-batch records (almost) the entire sender side of the conversation
into one file. ("Almost" because it has

rsync server over SSH [includes code patches]
Hi Folks --
I've recently had the need to add a piece of functionality to rsync
that allows one to run 'rsync --daemon' (rsync in "rsync server" mode)
over SSH. My main goal was to be able to use some of the features
from rsyncd.conf(5) (notably modules) while still using SSH for
authentication and network transport.
Background: I wanted to have the capability of setting

Rsync 2.6.9pre2 tries to read ACLs of nonexistent files
Dear rsync people,
Today I tried to back up my computer using rsnapshot with the RPM
version of rsync-acl 2.6.9pre1 that I built. I tried twice, and both
times, rsync encountered some kind of assertion failure. I was trying
to reproduce the crash with rsync-acl 2.6.9pre2 and noticed a
different bug (described below); when I have a chance, I will go back
and investigate the crash further.

Windows XP Home mounting a Samba share on Solaris 10
I have usccessfully installed Samba-3.0.10 on a Sun
workstation running Solaris 10. I am now trying to
view the shared directory on a laptop running Windows
XP Home. I am only using Samba for a workgroup share
as I know XP Home can not log on to a domain. I can
see the Samba server on the XP laptop when I selecet
"view workgroup computers". However, when I try to

[PATCH] --omit-dir-changes, qsort<>mergesort issues
Hi all,
I recently ran into some problems with rsync. My plan is to renew some of
our old administration concepts from early 90's, I already replaced rdist
with rsync a few years ago.
Because of the rdist legacy, the current method requires synchronizing
files into 6 different locations, {/alt,/usr/alt}/{hostdep,sysdep,hutdep},
which in turn are prioritized by a tool that just symlinks

[PATCH] make write_batch local
Wayne,
It's taken a little while for me to get more familiar with the
code, but I think I've reached a good breakpoint in improving
batch-mode. Let me highlight some of the changes in the
attached patch:
* --write-batch and --read-batch arguments are no longer passed
from client to server. This fixes the current problem
that causes the server threads to die when the client

Differentiating debug messages from both sides
Some of the debug messages that rsync outputs (when verbose >= 2) can
occur on both sides of the connection. This makes it hard to know which
program is saying what. Some debug messages deal with this by
outputting a "[PID]" string at the start of the message. Unfortunately,
the startup message that tells us which pid is which is only output when
verbose >= 3, so there's a

Improve --inplace updates on pathological inputs
Hi,
I recently came across a situation where "rsync --inplace" performs very poorly. If both the source and destination files contain long sequences of identical blocks, but not necessarily in the same location, the sender can spend an inordinate amount of CPU time finding matching blocks.
In my case, I came across this problem while backing up multi-hundred-gigabyte MySQL database

build/test problems with rsync-3.0.0pre4

I tried to build rsync-3.0.0pre4 on a list of different plattforms

Revised flags patch
Hi,
first of all, sorry for taking so long. Unfortunately, some other tasks
kept coming up. Anyway, attached is the version of the flags patch, that
is based on the one I'm using with 2.6.9. It is against the rsync-3.0.0pre9
release.
I've included the option name change from the repository, so the
option is now called --fileflags. Improved from the previously
distributed version is the
