[PATCH] Updated patch to rsync for Stratus VOS
This is an updated version of my patches to get rsync to build
and run its tests on the Stratus VOS operating system.
I have updated this patch to apply cleanly to the current copy
of HEAD. I also ran the test suite and discovered that I needed
to tweak a few spots in the Makefile to append the executable
suffix (VOS is one of the few systems that has a required
executable suffix). There are a

Possible patch for Irix Makefile problem
I am guessing that since the error is on the first instance of
the use of
foo$(VAR): foo.o
construct, that the Irix makefile parser doesn't know how to
deal with this line. Obviously they don't use GNU make....
So here is a patch to Makefile.in that simplifies the use of
variables. This only uses constructs that should work in all
makes. It should not break anything, and it

rsync-3.0.6 regression test problems
Hi,
I've build rsync-3.0.6 on a number of legacy unix systems, and on a few
systems the regression tests showed up with some errors:
HP-UX 11.11 and 11.23 (ia64):
FAIL chown
FAIL dir-sgid
FAIL fuzzy
FAIL itemize
IRIX 6.5.13m:
FAIL chown
FAIL fuzzy
FAIL itemize
MacOS-X 10.4:
FAIL chgrp
the errors on "fuzzy" and "itemize" are

make clean
I just did a make clean to tidy up a bit and found four
objects were missed. The seem to belong to the CHECK_PROGS
set. Not sure where best to put them so created a
CHECK_OBJS variable and added it to the clean rule.

building rsync on MacOSX 10.2.2
This is to let you know that although rsync compiled on MacOSX 10.2.2,
it failed certain tests. I have attached two files: (1) The combined
output of "./configure" and make", and (2) the output of "make check".
Please let me know if you need any further information.

Installation
Hello,
I can not install rsync 2.5.5. on a Caldera Open Unix 8.0.0 Operating
System.
After ./configure I enter the command "make" and I get the following
Message:
UX:make: FEHLER: Zeile 66: Syntaxfehler
Where can I get help?
I add the files: config.log and Makefile.

rsync ported to BeOS-bone
Hello, here is a preliminary patch allowing rsync 2.5.6
to compile in BeOS (using the new BONE networking stack).
Some explanations:
- BeOS doesn't have chroot(),
- the BONE networking stack export legacy network function
for old apps in libnet.so (linked to by default), so it's
necessary to force linking to the new libraries for things
to work. I've yet to get inet_ntop() to be

ssh-basic test
I'm running 'make check' to run the testsuite, and I did it
this way so the ssh-basic test would run:
# export rsync_enable_ssh_tests=yes
# make check
I did set up ssh so this would run, and here's what I get
for output:
POSIXLY_CORRECT=1 TOOLDIR=`pwd` rsync_bin=`pwd`/rsync srcdir="." ./runtests.sh

PATCH: Fix IRIX 6 testsuite failures
Having built rsync 2.5.5 on IRIX 6.2 with gcc 3.1, I ran into two failures
when running the testsuite with make check: both the chgrp and hardlinks
tests fail:
The failure in the chgrp test occurs here:
+ rsync -rtgvvv /amnt/callisto/volumes/obj-irix5/local/obj.irix5/rsync-2.5.5/testtmp.chgrp/from/ /amnt/callisto/volumes/obj-irix5/local/obj.irix5/rsync-2.5.5/testtmp.chgrp/to/

SUSE Linux 9.0 (amd64), 10.1 (amd6) SLES10 (32 and 64 bit)

[patch] Two problems in testsuite (POSIX, perms)
Hello,
Noticed a couple of problems with the rsync testsuite. I have included
a possible patch for each problem (attached & inlined.)
The first problem is that on OpenBSD when make test is run and tests
are skipped you see messages like this:
cat: "/tmp/rsync-2/rsync/testtmp.chown/whyskipped": No such file or directory
SKIP chown ()
After my patch, you get the appropriate

Solaris 2.8/2.5.2 build issues
Folks,
Just downloaded 2.5.2 to play with...builds with a raft of warnings, and
the symlink test fails. Transcript below for anyone with the knowledge
and energy to repair.
This is done with gcc-3.0.3.

memory reduction
As those of you who watch CVS will be aware Wayne has been
making progress in reducing memory requirements of rsync.
Much of what he has done has been the product of discussions
between he and myself that started a month ago with John Van
Essen.
Most recently Wayne has changed how the file_struct and its
associated data are allocated, eliminating the string areas.
Most of these changes have been
