Rsyncd log file permission
Hi I am wondering if there is any way to change the file permission of "rsync.log" and "rsyncd.lock" via rsyncd.conf. Most likely the "lock" file is not possible, but maybe the other file is possible. The reason I am asking is because if I UserA runs rsync, then UserB won't be able to write to rsync.log file since its owned by UserA and readable only to UserB.

rsync logfile - daemon does not log enough
I am running rsync version 2.56 in daemon mode on a server running Redhat 8.0. When I check my log file (located in /var/log/rsyncd.log), the only lines I see have to do with the server starting up, like so: 2003/09/11 16:53:42 [15025] rsyncd version 2.5.6 starting, listening on port 873 I would like to see output relating to connections, usernames etc., so I set up the following rsyncd.conf

mkstemp permission denied
We are using rsync to push DNS records from one machine (running rsync 2.5.6 as a client process on Debian woody) to a collocation server ( running rsync 2.5.6 as a daemon on RedHat 7.3). To test this process we are using a script that pushes one file from the Debian box to the collocation server. It appears that a file transfers, but upon checking there is no file transfer and an error in the

Conflicting timestamps in rsyncd.log
Hi list, I just setup my first rsyncd server and all is working well as far as file syncing goes. However, I am a bit baffled by the fact that some of the log entries in the rsyncd.log file are entered in local time and other are entered in GMT. Here is a sample: file upload: ============ 2009/03/01 15:15:49 [22641] connect from UNKNOWN (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) 2009/03/01 23:15:49 [22641] rsync to

--log-file-format seems to be ignored?
I'm using Rsync 3.0.5 between two Debian boxes. I have an rsync script setup that uses --log-file=mylogfile.log and also I have specified --log-file-format=whatever. But I can't seem to get the --log-file-format to be recognized. I don't get any sort of errors, but the log format that I get is just the default, no matter how I change the format option. Just for simplicity's

logging problem
Yep I tried those two options, and nothing... Even if the pre-user conf files have a log file in the same directory, which I touch before trying, messages keep going to syslog... I tried with 666 permissions on rsyncd.log too just to make sure... The following is one of the user's conf file, hope theres a clue. Thanks! log file = /home/pluto/rsyncd.log <<< This is the problem!!

The remote machine's /etc/rsyncd.conf (just for testing): use chroot = no log file = /var/log/rsyncd.log pid file = /var/run/rsyncd.pid lock file = /var/run/rsync.lock [auth] path = /var/www/auth comment = apache authentication files. read only = yes Then for a test, I fired up

Samba logging behavior on new files
Hi list, I have home made program, which uses File Alteration Monitor library to watch samba log files for new file creation in samba share directory. This technique works fine when I use GNU/Linux machine as client and it fails when I use Windows machine as client. The cause of failure is, samba server creates different pattern of logs and sometimes it does not create log entries on new file

How to control rsync log?
Hi, We have a rsync server running on a HP-UX 11.11 server. The version of rsync is 2.6.3. There are several machines regularly rsync a lot of stuff(files and directories) to/from this server everyday. When we run rsync on these machines, we prefer running rsync with "-v" option (for verbose) so that we can see the progress of the rsync. On the rsync server, rsyncd.conf file, we have

Question about file ownership on destination
Hello Regarding ownership on the destination: rsync's man page indicates that when synchronizing files to a remote host, -o implies the --numeric-ids option, which makes perfect sense aince the named users/groups may not exist on the destination host. The problem I have is that the files created on the destination still appear to be owned by the local user (server1) on the rsync

Prevent dereferenced path of symlinked directories from printing on client side log output
I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to run an rsync daemon which makes a mix of "real" and symlinked folders available to a client such that all the folders appear as "real" to the client. I realize the --copy-links and --copy-dirlinks accomplish this when invoked from the client side (and that is currently how I am accomplishing this). Is there any way to
