rsync windows acl
Hi @all! I want to backup Windows files to a Linux Server including the Windows ACLs. Packages for rsync 2.6.8 with ACLs
Dear rsync people, I have finally made packages for rsync 2.6.8 with ACL support. You can download a prepatched source package and RPMs from here: http://www.kepreon.com/~matt/myrsync/ Or you can use this yum repository: http://www.kepreon.com/~matt/rpm/ The RPM is called rsync-acl so automatic updating tools will know not to toss it in favor of plain rsync, but it "Provides" rsync

patchsync
Wayne, I have just completed a much enhanced version of "patchsync", the tool I have been using to synchronize my copy of acls.diff with my copy of ACL-enabled rsync. It is a compelling alternative to "verify-patches" for mere mortals who want to follow development of rsync branches. Would you please consider mentioning it on the rsync Web site, in the source tree, or both?

cygwin rsync windows to windows ACL problem
I am having problems using rsync on cygwin to properly copy the ownership of files from windows to windows. I am running: rsync -avPA //src_addr/some/path /local/dst/path/ Based on: http://www.mail-archive.com/rsync@lists.samba.org/msg18920.html and: http://www.nabble.com/Re:-I-need-rsync-+-acl-support-for-windows--t2462647.html ENV: CYGWIN=ntsec tty I am running this on Windows Server 2003 R2

[PATCH]: Cygwin: Changes to cygwin contrib area
Hi, the following patch changes two files in the contrib/cygwin subdir: It changes the Cygwin specific README file which adds some hints related to the new feature to switch user context without password (which means using public key and/or rhosts authentication). Some old stuff is erased. The changes to ssh-host-config are intended to allow an easier startup for users which are new to Cygwin

rsync for incremental
Hi all, I am able to copy the dir from one drive to another drive on local machine using windowsXP. Is there any command by which I can get only the updation of file ie only the incremental?. Suppose I have a text file say ss.txt of 3KB in size and I have taken the backup of this file. Now I am making the changes in to this file(ss.txt) by adding 1KB of data. Now I want this 1KB data (in to a

[PATCH]: Cygwin: Allow sshd to switch user context without password
Hi, the following patch checks if OpenSSH is running under a Cygwin version >= 1.3.2 which allows switching user context without password. Otherwise sshd allows changing the user context only if password authentication is used as it was before. [PATCH]: Add features to Cygwin's ssh-host-config script
Hi, I have added two features to the ssh-host-config script which is used in Cygwin installations to prepare the host based OpenSSH configuration. Now it cares for a /var/log/lastlog file if it's not already installed (Thanks to "Karl M" <karlm30 at hotmail.com> for that patch) and it now asks the user if s/he wants to install sshd as a NT service and, if so, installs it.

Rewritten rsync man page
Dear Wayne, C Sights, and list, I have started working on my rewritten version of the rsync man page. So far, I have redone the top of the man page and the list of options; I improved many of the one-line option descriptions. The yodl and man versions of my man page are available here and here: http://www.kepreon.com/~matt/private/rsync-new-manpage/rsync.yo

Rsync push is slower compared to pull
Hi, It has been observed that rsync push mode is much slower when compared to pull (On Identical scenarios). Building/receiving file list takes almost same time. But data transfer is much slower, whose transfer ratios are ranging from 1:3 to 1:5. On pull operation data transfer speed is consistently around 3.5 MB/Sec and it reached 10 MB/Sec. However, on push the maximum it could reach is

[patch/cygwin]: Fix documentation
Hi, could somebody with checkin rights please apply the below patch? It modernizes and improves readability of the Cygwin README file (which hasn't been updated for ages), drops unsupported OSes from the ssh-host-config help text, and drops an unneeded option from ssh-user-config. Thanks in advance, Corinna Index: contrib/cygwin/README

windows acl with rsync possible ?
Hi all, (i am new at rsync althought using it for a year and half) i was unable to find a direct answer to this questions : _does rsync under windowz really support ACL replication ?_ if I "rsync" a directory, files inherit from the acl of that dir. but if special acls are setted on some files these are lost in the replication : only inherited acls are written i tried this with rsync

[PATCH] Update Cygwin service installer script for new Cygwin release
Hi, the below patch is necessary for the contrib/cygwin/ssh-host-config script to work on Cygwin 1.5.x as well as on the new Cygwin 1.7.x. The information given for the setting of the CYGWIN environment variable is wrong for both releases so I just removed it, together with the unnecessary (Cygwin 1.5.x) or wrong (Cygwin 1.7.x) default setting. Could somebody with checkin rights please apply

[PATCH] contrip/cygwin: Reworking the installation support
Hi, the below patch to contrib/cygwin is a major rework to allow various changes in the installation process on Cygwin machines. The important changes are: - New Makefile, providing a `cygwin-postinstall' target which allows to create a base installation as in the Cygwin distribution, which should be run right after a `make install'. - Additional information given in the README

For Cygwin versions beginning with API minor version 56 assume ntsec being on by default. Thanks in advance for applying

Rsync, Cygwin, & SSH: ntsec OR nontsec?
Hi all, Thank-you to all the developers for rsync. It is very well done. I have rsync running on various platforms connecting to the same server and all is good. Except for 1 Win2000 Prof. server. I backup several directories with various permissions and users successfully. However, there are 2 directories that even though the permissions are the same as other directories that are

CVS rsync hangs during local copy
Dear rsync people (particularly Wayne), I am finding that the CVS version of rsync hangs during most, but not all, local copies. The problem goes away if I pass --protocol=29, so I'm guessing it is related to the incremental file-list sending. The hanging seems to be timing-dependent. Increasing the verbosity level seems to increase the chance of a hang. If I run rsync repeatedly with the
