File fragmentation
Wayne.my vote is for a command-line option. I've noticed there is some penalty for very large files (35GB-50GB). The penalty is relatively small based on my 'intuitive' measurements.read me watching without running a real timer. The difference is very small compared to what happens after a few weeks without the fragmentation patch. Our SAN was becoming so fragmented that we were

combining --preallocate and --fuzzy
Greetings, I would like to write a patch for rsync but need some help getting started. Here is my situation. I am using cwrsync to copy files from one Windows server to another Windows server. One file that I need to backup is 130 GB. The daily changes occur all throughout the file, not just at the end of the file. File names look like this: Db_20080402_0003_DB.BAK Db_20080403_0003_DB.BAK

Invalid File Index error
Since upgrading to 2.6.8 with the tag 3 patch, I've been consistently getting an error using rsync. We have about 100 servers using the client to a central backup server and the issue is repeatable on the servers having the problem. About 10 of the servers are having the problem. The error reported by rsync is: Invalid file index: -1019607330 (count=8353) [sender] rsync error: protocol

rsync Digest, Vol 107, Issue 24
Hi, Some explanations regarding cwRsync: cwRync installers (both client and server) are now available as a paid download bundle. Installer sources, however, are still available as free upon contact. Please keep in mind that installer sources are not enough to build cwRsync installers: You need to build up a complete Cygwin environment, compile/copy binaries in the package. It may be time

Rsync 2.6.7 with acl patch on Cygwin
Thanks to recent achievements, rsync with the acl patch has been a viable alternative for cygwin environments as well. --- Excerpt from the man page source: (--acl | -A) option causes rsync to update the destination ACLs to be the same as the source ACLs. This nonstandard option only works if the remote rsync also supports it. Note also that an optimization of the ACL-sending protocol used by

Rsync acl patch 1.113 compilation problems on cygwin
Hi, Recently, there have been some fundamental achievements regarding acl-support on the cygwin platform. I thought that it would be convenient to offer an acl-patch enabled rsync as a part of the cwrsync package (a yet another minimalist rsync on cygwin solution). I get some compilation errors. What I did: - Downloaded acl patch v1.113 from rsync site - Run commands below In the rsync source

500 error while trying to run Camping on Dreamhost
I''ve tried setting up an Hello World app with Rails (no database), on a Dreamhost account. I used the configuration I found here http://www.mail-archive.com/camping-list at rubyforge.org/msg00114.html with the proper paths. But I keep getting Internal Server Errors (500). On the error.log I found this [Sun Jul 22 15:32:07 2007] [error] [client 82.154.48.138] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic)

preallocate CPU usage - pre4
When I use the preallocate patch and create a 77GB file using the function I get a CPU spike on the server-side. The spike lasts about 20 minutes and uses about 20%-25% of the cpu associated with the rsync instance creating the file. The spike is directly linked to the time it takes to create the file. I compiled rsync using cygwin CVS. I initially suspected the implementation of

problem with United Devices Agent
Hello I have same problem like that one from month or two ago: UD Agent refuses to run giving "invalid picture" error. I have applied patch (posted recently by Gerard Patel) to Wine-20010305 but nothing happend - same error. Then I gave a try to Wine-20010418 - unpatched/patched(manually) - same story. If someone has any ideas I would be very grateful. For those who want to or can help:

Status of FLR in Xen 4.4
Hi everyone, I would like to ask what the current status of FLR, or better of FLR emulation is in latest Xen and if we can expect better support in the future. I''m asking because with xl (latest build and traditional qemu, not upstream), I always had problems with rebooting domUs which have vga cards passed through to them, because appearently they don''t get reinitialized and

problems with truncate() with files > 2Gb under Windows (possibly (PR#7879)
This message relates to handling files > 2Gb under Windows. (I use 2Gb as shorthand for 2^31-1 -- the largest integer representable in a signed 32 bit integer.) First issue: truncate() is not able to successfully truncate files at a position > 2Gb. This appears to be due to the use of the Windows function chsize() in file_truncate() in main/connections.c (chsize() takes a long int

Compilation failure using mingw-w64 and gcc-5.3.0
Hello, Upon compiling the flac tree today, after many successful compilations over the last few weeks, a new error is appearing before compilation bails out. This is a cross-compilation using gcc-5.3.0 running on GNU/Linux, with the objects being built for a mingw-w64-x86_64 host. Among other things, the compiler is looking for windows_unicode_filenames.h but it isn't there. Also, I'm

'credentials' file doesn't work - also observed by others
Background: Linux, Debian (Sarge). I want to auto-mount an smbfs at boot. smbmount version is 3.0.7-Debian. With the following in my fstab, I can do the mount as root, but have to provide a password (hence either I can't boot unattended, or can't mount it during boot): //<server>/<share> /mnt/point smbfs

OpenSUSE packages
Hello guys, Nouveau's OpenSUSE Build packages have broken dependences. It seems that now it demands xorg>=7.5 but the avaiable in opensuse 11.2 (current version) is 7.4. As there is no xorg-7.5 compiled for 11.2, I'm running vesa driver by now. I guess that a hint on download page could be useful. Cheers, --- Luiz Angelo Daros de Luca, Me. luizluca at gmail.com

cwRsync got killed...
Last cwrsync was 4.1.0, current is 4.2.0. It was avail on sourceforge. Itefix.no decided "we want money for coding and support" - that itself is not wrong. Though _I_ never needed any rsync help on neither linux and windows (including mixed) scenarios. But they killed their sourceforge downloads, all, including past versions of cwrsync, including source. The 4.2.0 client is still

windows acl with rsync possible ?
Hi all, (i am new at rsync althought using it for a year and half) i was unable to find a direct answer to this questions : _does rsync under windowz really support ACL replication ?_ if I "rsync" a directory, files inherit from the acl of that dir. but if special acls are setted on some files these are lost in the replication : only inherited acls are written i tried this with rsync
