compiling rsync on OSX
Are there any known issues compiling the latest rsync on OSX (10.4)?
I've noticed some references to one or two patches, but I'm not sure
what
they are. I compiled v2.6.8 some time back on a powerpc, with no
patches,
and it seemed to work OK. I saw nothing in the INSTALL file that
suggests
a patch is necessary.
Thanks for any pointers.

BIG delete list makes for BIGGER RAM requirements
So I'm doing daily backups with rsync, and weekly, I run it with
--delete after archiving the whole thing (this way I don't lose any
deleted files). All week long this runs fine, but when I add --delete,
rsync runs for a few hours then aborts because the box runs out of
memory.

Rsync dies with "Invalid file index:" error message
Hi all,
i'm having a rather strange problem with rsync (v2.6.8). Rsync is run to synchronize
two identical, rather old Solaris 2.6 servers. All filesystems rsync fine except for one.
Rsync bails out on this particular FS with the following messages:
# /var/tmp/bin/rsync -avz -e "ssh -i $keyfile" --exclude-from=/tmp/rsync_data.excl server:/data/ /data
receiving file list ... done

i've built up rsync on both opensuse & osx from src.
on osx, it's v2.6.3 w/ both apple's "Extended Attributes" patches:

rsync name resolution weirdness...
I have 7 rsync mirrors set up, but I only see some clients hitting just
1 mirror even though the hostname resolves to 7 distinct IP addresses.
On a cent 4x box running rsync 2.6.9, I straced the rsync process, and
I can see the name resolution happen, and all 7 IP addresses are
returned, but rsync always picks the same IP address to connect to. If
I sorted all 7 of the IP addresses

rsync and symbolic links
Is this a known issue?
rsync does not always preserve dates and permissions on symbolic links,
and while the -i option indicates it is trying to bring things in
sync, it does not.
Maybe between OS's that have sufficiently different implementations,
this is not possible.

Selectively overriding --cvs-exclude option
Hi,
I've come across a situation with rsync which seems like a bug. I could
not find anything listed in bugzilla so am writing to the list to see if
it's just me.
I have a situation where I would like to upload some auto-generated
files to a website. However, I don't want these files to be included in
my CVS repository so I have added them to a .cvsignore file.

rsync on osx hack
There have been many problems reported with rsync on OSX: the unpatched
version does not preserve extended attributes, and Apple's patched
version is
buggy, and also does not allow one to backup from OSX to a non-OSX Unix.
I have been interested in a fast and reliable way to backup my files
from OSX
to a non-OSX file server. There are some patched versions of rsync
on the web

Major rsync issue - overwriting files!!!
Hi,
I'm having a MAJOR issue with an rsync backup script that is actually
OVERWRITING the files that it should be backing up!
The thing is, the same script (with different source/destination
variables) runs FLAWLESSLY on another file server!
Background:
2 OS X client computers running 10.4.11 (1 intel, 1 PPC). both are
running rsync v2.6.3.
rsync is backing up from one firewire HD(afp

cp weird behaviour, some copied files differ from original.
Hi.
I know that for the problem that will follow many things other than ext3
are involved, like a kernel upgrade, a possible coreutils mis-behaviour
and other, so I beg your pardon if I'm not in the right place ...
Now the problem. I have met a trouble upgrading web/dns server running
linux.
Precisely, I have upgraded the kernel from 2.4.9 to 2.6.6 and the hard
disk also, from 20Gb to

macintosh metadata madness
Like many other Mac OSX users, I have found it frustrating that rsync
is not as usable
as one would like it to be on OSX. I've posted some software on my
website
that I find useful, and that others may find useful as well. It
provides tools that allow
one to access and manipulate OSX metadata, and in particular, to
backup (and restore)
this metadata to a non-OSX, unix machine (using

Long delays in rsync manifested by repeated entries, CentOS, rsync v2.6.8.
Hello, rsync list folks,
Recently, rsyncs abort during busier times of the day, although they
run error-free during non-busy hours.
Problem 1 - Many rsyncs abort these errors:
Read from remote host www.xxx.yyy.zzz: Connection reset by peer
rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes [sender]: Broken pipe (32)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (3929920 bytes received so far)
