Securing Rsync
I have a rsync server set up on a win2k server and a win xp pro computer
is my client. It's working very well doing the anonymous transfers.
However, I've tried setting up a password file and not having any
success.
rsyncd.conf on my server:
use chroot = false
strict modes = false
hosts allow = *
[serverbu]
auth users = user
path = c:/serverbu
read only = no

Please help : Strange 'file has vanished' behaviour with rsync on windows.
Please help : Strange 'file has vanished' behaviour with rsync on windows.
I need to run rsync on windows and sync shares thru UNC names.
When I try :
rsync -e ssh -av //mypc1/myshare1/dir1/* //mypc1/myshare1/dir2/.
rsync does a copy but says "file has vanished" for every file.
Then when I run:
rsync -e ssh -av --dry-run //mypc1/myshare1/dir1/* //mypc1/myshare1/dir2/.
it shows

Rsync hangs after a while when tunneling from A->B->C
Dear Rsyncians,
I'm trying to Rsync my windowsXP-pc A and C. There is a firewall in
between A and C, but we have a port open on a linux-machine B to access
C from A (and vica versa) via B.
When I now run my Rsync scripts in cygwin:

[Bug 2328] cygwin rsync hangs when initiated remotely after transfering some files

The legendary cygwin/rsync/ssh hang problem. I have been tracking this for a
while now and can say that the latest cygwin install appears to have fixed the
problem on one of the setups that has consistantly failed in the past. Have not
put the update on to any

rsync speed
Hi all,
I have a Windows server with rsync and cygwin, and I backup/restore files
over ssh to a Linux server with rsync 2.6.8, over a 100Mbps LAN.
I have tried an experiment with one 350MB file:
Pushing the file from Windows to Linux over ssh takes around 15 min, with an
average speed of ~400Kbps (using --progress).
Pulling the same file using the same arguments takes around 45 mins, with an

It's not just this file, its been a number of different files.

Rsync to just upload new/updated files without comparing source/destination
Thanks for your inputs. Surprisingly i tried executing the following command
but end up deleting ssh.exe in Cygwin folder when source folder path is
incorrect or not reachable.
rsync --remove-source-files -v -av -r /cygdrive/c/AmitTest/ ssh
username at destinationserver:/cygdrive/e/AMIT/AmitTest/
I am wondering if remove source is doing some tricks there but unable to
find root cause why ssh.exe

"rsync: not found" error with sshwindows
I'm trying to copy files from a Linux system to a Windows XP system running
sshwindows. I can use gFTP and log in just fine. sshwindows is based on
cygwin so you just use /cygdrive/c/ to access the Windows C: drive, etc.
But for some reason, rsync is having problems transferring files to this system:
[1710][~]$ rsync -av /tmp/foo.txt user@windowsbox.com:/cygdrive/c/

Cygwin Rsync 2.5.6 over SSH hangs on Win2k->Win2k
When using Cygwin Rsync 2.5.6/OpenSSH 3.6.1 for copying files from
Win2k->Win2k, I get 2 or 3 hung processes on the receiving-side out of about
every 50 runs. These hung processes cause the system to be unable to
reboot(?!), requiring a hard reset. Killing the processes allows a graceful
reboot every time. I'm currently running both ssh and rsync as services on
the recieving side.

local rsync hangs with big files
Hello list,
for quite some time I've been using rsync on Windows successfully
syncing ~10k files each day. The rsync is that of Cygwin. The sync
is from one FAT FS to another FAT FS.
rsync --version output is this:

best rsync for use with windows (client) and long file names
Good day,
I have been doing some tests with rsync on windows (client) to backup
to a linux server.
I started out with cwrsync, but ran into the dreaded "File name too
long (91)" error. Apparently due to an issue with the cygwin portion
of it. So I was then testing with a newer version of cygwin (1.7 beta)
as the long file name issue was resolved.
In testing that with some

RSync on Win32
The setup:
File Server with Windows 2000 Server: shares multiple drives to
a large network consisting of both Macs and PCs.
Macs run OS9 and OSX.
Backup Server with Windows 2003 Server: has Cygwin installed so
I can use rsync (which is included with Cygwin).
Command:
rsync -av --delete /cygdrive/z/ /cygdrive/d/

Rsync Hangs
I saw this in the archive:
http://www.mail-archive.com/rsync@lists.samba.org/msg06880.html
I'm having the same problem with samba hanging, except it's not very
re-creatable. I have a script that runs rsync, sleeps for 30 seconds
and runs rsync again. It hangs about once every 24 hours.
The script runs a rsync push over ssh. I've been running the same rsync
scripts for 18 months

rsync --delete is not deleting
Hi,
wondering if someone can help. I have googled for this and scoured the
man page, but have got no further.
I am running rsync 2.6.6 on windows and am finding it doesn't delete
files from the target.
For example my batch file has:
rsync -av --delete /cygdrive/G/SAN_ARRAY/XPP_Data/alljobz/
/cygdrive/z/alljobz/
This copies everything over nicely, but doesn't delete files or folders

rsync hanging on large windows directories
I have a RH 8.0 box which issues the following command to a Windows
machine running the most recent version of cygwin. Both boxes have been
updated to rsync 2.6.6 and I use the following command from the LINUX
BOX (SSH keygen agent is setup for passwordless logins and the IP is
aliased under /.ssh/config)
rsync -avz --delete --progress -e "ssh"

Rsync keeps copying everything to the server
Hi mates
I am running this command and rsync keeps copying all the files to the server. Any reason why? It supposed to copy only those files with have been modified and just copy the difference.
Thanks for your advice
rsync.exe -av --progress --log-file=/cygdrive/v/notes/archive/RSyncLogFile.txt /cygdrive/d/%username%/notes/archive /cygdrive/v/notes/

Help - rsync runs from command line, fails from task scheduler, hangs at msg checking charset: UTF-8
Setting up a new system backup (done several before and they all work fine).

server 16.04 (rsync 3.1.1). Run test.bat from command window (run as
administrator) and it runs fine.Created scheduled task that runs test.bat
and it hangs at "msg checking charset: UTF-8" until the timeout. I have

Another cygwin/rsync question
Hi, Been using rsync for many years but I'm stuck with this problem.
I'ts a simplistic backup using rsync from a Windows 2k3 machine to a
Linux box out on the 'net, using pre-shared ssh keys. In this case I'm
saving, files belonging to various users, using the administrator
account on the windows machine and the destination is a normal user
account and its home file area.

Rsync Hangs when syncing two Windows Drives Locally..?
I am trying to keep two hard drives mirrored on a local machine. They
are both 120 GB and I want to run rsync 3 times a day. I don't have an
rsync server running and am only using the rsync.exe with a current
cygwin1.dll. the command I use to sync the drives is:
rsync -vvva --delete /cygdrive/d /cygdrive/e
What do you guys think is the issue here? The command will start and I

rsync hanging on Cygwin
I'm trying to use rsync under Cygwin on 2 machines running Windows 2000
Server
There's a 2MB link between them and I'm using SSH setup for a passwordless
connection
rsync hangs part way through transfers and when run again hangs at the same
place in the same files with no explanation no matter what verbosity level I
set it to. Each time it hangs it leaves an rsync process running on
