Help With File transfer of files named "Apple*" + Lacie 5Big RAID
Hello Rsync Community, I have been using rsync for several years to backup servers across an array of different areas. I have run into a new problem that I cannot find an answer for. We just recently purchased a Lacie 5Big Network RAID: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1596257 for one organization. We set up a test server to start backing up to this RAID via AFP. accented characters in filenames mangled when rsyncing to a samba share
Hi folks, I am having a problem rsyncing files with accents in the names. I've seen similar problems reported a few times before in the archives but they didn't seem to be referring to exactly the same problem as what I have, and I'm not good enough at Linux to solve my problem by generalising from the information there: sorry. Anyway, my specific details are this. I am running rsync

rsync time machine backup permissions
Dear rsync users, I'm trying to copy my Time Machine Backup from my old USB hard drive to a new one. I got error messages, because rsync don't create group and other permissions. I use rsync 3.1.3. Did I use the correct parameters? Who has an idea, what mistake? Thanks! Best, André -- The bash script: #!/bin/bash source=/Volumes/LaCie\ d2\ Quadra\ v3/Backups.backupdb

Easiest way to compile custom kernel, for fedora +openswan+xen+patchomatic
I want to compile a custom xenU kernel for a firewall distribution (endianfw, version of ipcop), I can get it to load up but the kernel is missing some modules that aren''t resident. So I want to make a custom version for this domU, I know what I need kernel+openswan+xen+patch-o-matic but I not sure the best way to go about this, do I patch a fedora source or start with a vanilla kernel?

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions? Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories. Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order? fsck.ext3 reporting large file I cannot find
I am checking a file system (ext3) as shown below. It is actually a fresh file system, as I had deleted all partitions and created an ext3 file system. But when I run the check with the verbose option, it says I have one large file. Am I missing something here, or is it odd that I cannot find this large file it is reporting? I reviewed some documentation on ext3 file systems, and experimented

[OT] *nix Server/Windows Client Tips and tricks
Sorry if this is too off topic, but one of the things that happens when you use a *nix box is you have opportunities to do some nifty tricks with shell scripts and whatnot to help maintain your network. Sometimes, this comes at the expense of using the tools that come with some windows software and is the result of necessity. Other times, this comes because the "nifty" tools that come

Looking for server recommendations
We're going to replace an older Solaris7/Netbackup/TapeRobot server with a new Centos box using backup-to-disk-to-tape (probably using Arkeia). The specs are up in the air, but generally: - CentOS/RHEL friendly (3Ware SATA? SCSI?) - 2U/3U/4U-ish form factor - hotswap RAID5 - dual PS, hotswap a plus - USB2.0 port(s) (*) To give you an idea of where I'm starting to look, take a gander at

NFS - No lista dos directorios especificos
Estimados. Actualmente, estoy tirando los backups a un server que comparte por NFS los directorios. Me encuentro con un problema, por ahora en dos servidores, en el cual no puedo ver directorios exportados. IdentityFile option escape sequences
Hello, I'm using openssh-4.3p2 compiled for sparc-sun-solaris2.8. I'm trying to use the IdentityFile option with the escape sequences for the remote host name (%h) and remote user name (%r) as documented in ssh-config <http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=ssh_config&sektion=5&arch=&apropos=0&manpath=OpenBSD+Current>. e-SATA card well supported by Linux (CentOS) with built-in drivers and that supports hot plug
Hi, I'm looking for a good e-SATA card, preferrently one that is supported by Linux with built-in drivers (no need to compile the modules from the vendor), or at least that the vendor's drivers are packaged with dkms or something similar that makes it easy on kernel upgrades. It's essential that the card supports hot-plugging, because we want to use it to plug backup drives and have

ieee1394 firewire disk unable to see or mount [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
We have some LaCie 1 TB external disks which work fine on other Linux servers (running Red Hat 9, and Ubuntu 7.04), but which fail to be seen on our CentOS 4.3 system with kernel 2.6.9-34.107.plus.c4smp The interface card is a Sunix 64 bit Firewire 800 ieee1394b adapter plugged into a PCI slot in our Linux server, which is a Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro S2882-D, 64 bit AMD Opteron
