rsync, ssh and DSA key
hi all
I have generated the key in the source server(10.78.0.107)
ssh-keygen -t dsa -C "root@10.78.0.107"
I have added this key to authorized_keys2 of the destination
server(10.78.0.117)
cat id_dsa.pub >> /root/.ssh/authorized_keys2
but when I execute
rsync -avz -e ssh root@10.78.0.107:/var/mail/ /var/mail
in the destination server I asck me for the password

Rsync + SSH on a different port + restricted access
Hello,
I'm trying to setup Rsync over SSH with openSSH running port 2222 with a remote RSA public key authentification and a restricted shell to avoid the user to browse my server via SSH, only be able to run rsync server.
1) i've built a regular rsync server over TCP/873
Worked fine, check my conf :
motd file = /etc/rsyncd.motd
log file = /var/log/rsyncd.log

mirror whole hard disk with rsync
I want to create an exact copy of a whole hard disk and to maintain this copy
synchronised with the "original" one. The idea is to have a safe backup that
allows me, in case the "original" disk fails, to change it by the "clone"
disk and start the computer as if nothing had happened. The computer runs
Linux.
I heard a good option for this purpose is to use dd to

Initialising a mirror
Dears,
I would like to mirror data from 2 servers connected together via VPN over
ADSL lines (dwn 2Mbps/Upld 512Kbps).
I'm sure rsync is one of the best tool to keep these data in sync but how
should I use it to initialise the mirror?
I'm currently testing the solution with 10Gb of data to keep in sync. But
on my lines it would take more than 40 hours to initially create the

reading time value in dom0 and domU kernels
Hi Folks,
I want to calculate latency in transferring a buffer from domU kernel to
dom0 kernel and vice versa. for that I need a time ''flavour'' (cycle counter
time?) which reads the same in dom0 and domU. Could someone please let me
know if cycle counter time is the right time to use? if not then which one
(system time or wall clock time)? Also could someone please tell me how to

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I
couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize
the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP
or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any
pointers would be great.
The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse
NetBios name lookup by

sssd on a DC
Hi,
I have a query about the use of sssd on a Samba4 DC. Background is as follows:
I have two DCs and would like to synchronise files between the two
machines. This is for sysvol replication - I am using lsyncd (
https://code.google.com/p/lsyncd/ ) to trigger an rsync whenever files
change.
However I have hit a predictable problem, which is that since there is
no synchronised UID mapping

<VM LIVE Migration> <Sync conntrack entries>
Hi Team,
I am using QEMU/KVM for launching VMs and libvirt to govern those VMs.
I would like to synchronise the connection tracking entries specific
to the VM during the VM LIVE migrations. It is required when the
firewall is implemented at the host level like libvirt's "network
filters". If stateful firewall is enabled, then unless these
connection tracking entries are

WinXP not caching credentials
I have three Windows XP (All SP2) machines that won't cache credentials
with a Samba DC.
A Debian Sarge system with Samba 3.0.10 is the domain controller. It has
three users and three machine accounts.
The three users all are simple Unix users, with no mapping to Windows
users.
We use DHCP (entirely different server) and DNS, but local IPs do not
resolve.

Questions about time synchronisation in a multi-DC Samba environment
Hi All,
I am currently running a setup with a main DC ad1, that has ntpd
installed and is currently configured to retrieve the time from the UK
NTP time pool. I also have a second backup AD DC, ad2, on which I have
not installed ntpd but I have installed ntpdate. My current
understanding is that the setup I have just described is in-line with
the recommended best practices outlined in the

Xen crash on dom0 shutdown
There is a BUG_ON() at xen/arch/x86/physdev.c:169 which appears to
be dependent upon guest behavior (should close event channel before
un-mapping pirq), rather than on internal hypervisor state. In 2.6.18,
this likely goes unnoticed because pci_device_shutdown() only calls all
the driver shutdown routines. In newer kernels, however, it also calls
pci_msi_shutdown() and pci_msix_shutdown(), which

Advice for Internet facing Mailserver
Hello and good day,
i have setup a Server which is directly connected to the Internet,
without NAT-Router or other Firewall Appliance. I am using FreeBSD
6.2. I have pf enabled to only allow traffic on specified Ports. I am
using Apache-13 + Postfix + Dovecot & mysql for my Mail-system. There
is only one /home/User, which authenticates via a Key with Pass-
phrase to sshd. The

Dovecot strong or not for a big Webmail architecture
Hello,
Do you think Dovecot could handle millions of active users in a big architecture ?
This cluster could be for example (each server is a bi quad Xeon 2.66 Ghz) :
- 40 Dovecot servers
- 4 LVS
- 20 Apache+PHP
- 2 Openldap
- 20 Postfix + ClamAV + SpamAssassin
- 1 NFS Netapps
For millions of user it could be multiple different clusters of 40 Dovecot servers with 1 Netapp for each cluster.

Weird XP synchronisation issue. Using old cached IP?
First, a little background:
I successfully migrated the samba PDC funtionality from an old Suse
machine to a new debian-based one. The old machine was named PHOENIX
and had an ip address of 10.10.10.4. The new one has the same name but
is on 10.10.10.14.
Everything is working just fine with this new domain (authentication,
adding users, computers, printing etc), except for one laptop.
