Improvements to man page for --no-implied-dirs and --keep-dirlinks
Wayne, Attached is a patch worth of suggested man page improvements for --no-implied-dirs and --keep-dirlinks. I think new users would find my explanations clearer and more complete, although you may want to make additional changes. I regenerated rsync.1 and the patch includes changes to it, but my yodl is somewhat weird, so I suggest you run yodl again yourself. -- Matt McCutchen

trouble installing Math::BigInt module
I had to move a perl script from an old server to a new one. Both the old and new servers are running "CentOS release 5.10 (Final)" and perl v5.8.8. (But the problem I'm running into appears to be a package management problem and not a Perl problem which is why I'm posting it to a CentOS list.) The line of code in the script that attempts to open a Net::SFTP connection,

get_local_name
Wayne, I have redone get_local_name again (patch attached), this time to enable rsync to remove a file to make way for a destination directory; this resolves the "surprise" noted in David Tonhofer's diagram 2. I also made it obey --keep-dirlinks when looking for a destination directory and made various rearrangements. Tell me what you think, and if you decide to commit my code,

mangle ActiveRecord
Dear Gurus on Rails! How do I change the behaviour of one method in ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SchemaStatements ? Full story: I''d like to mangle ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SchemaStatements so when it creates a new sql table, it also (optionally) creates my created_at, deleted, key_id, session_id etc columns that I use on basically all tables. It would not be DRY to repeat

Yum update conflicts perl-Math-BigInt
I followed the Wiki instructions for setting up *yum-priorities*. I added the rpmforge repo I installed clamd without a problem. Now when I go to update I get conflicts with perl-Math-BigInt. Is the only solution to uninstall the base version and then install the rpmforge version? According the the wiki "Packages from repositories with a lower priority will never be used to upgrade

RODBC sqlSave problem with bigint numbers
Hello, After a (bad) first try some months ago, I'm trying again to use RODBC package instead of DBI+RMySQL packages to populate MySQL database. The main command is sqlSave(channel, data_df, tablename, append=T, rownames=FALSE, colnames=FALSE, fast=FALSE, varTypes=vartypes) where data_df is the data.frame I want to save and vartypes is obtained following the tip given here

logging problem
Yep I tried those two options, and nothing... Even if the pre-user conf files have a log file in the same directory, which I touch before trying, messages keep going to syslog... I tried with 666 permissions on rsyncd.log too just to make sure... The following is one of the user's conf file, hope theres a clue. Thanks! log file = /home/pluto/rsyncd.log <<< This is the problem!!

RMySQL typing Problem (bigint unsigned)
Dear Group, if anyone has experience with the RMySQL Package maybe this behaviour is know: Reading data from a table into R the fields with datatype bigint(20) unsigned are transformed in some way: e.g. the query "select * from orders where userid = 14929859848712890325" selects the correct case but in R the userid is changed to 14929859848712890368. What happened here? This

Proposed enhancements to rsync filters
I would like to propose some improvements to rsync's filters. (1) Add a notation that makes a pattern match both a file and everything under it if it happens to be a directory. One possibility: ending a path in //. "+ mydir//" would be equivalent to "+ mydir" "+ mydir/**". Just some syntactic sugar. (2) Add a third sender behavior to "hide" and

Dovecot, mysql, and quota
Hello, I'm running dovecot 2.2 and wanting to get quotas going. I've got the plugins loaded appropriately and am wanting to configure a dictionary backend to talk to my mysql database. I've got a single database called mail which has all the mail-related items in it. One table is for virtual users which postfix uses. It looks like this: CREATE TABLE `virtual_users` ( `id` int(11)

symlinks that become directories question
If I have a backup script that does the following: (latest 2.6.9 rsync) rsync --archive --hard-links --force --ignore-errors --numeric-ids --keep-dirlinks --delete / /backup I've found that if there is a symlink in place that gets backed up (which goes fine), i.e.: homelink -> /home/ and then that symlink gets changed into an actual directory, i.e.: rm homelink mkdir homelink rsync
