chmod/chown on receiver
Hi there,
I'm pushing a directory tree from a samba server with notificytion via
fileschanged (FAM) to a webserver for procession images into an
image-database. These files have to be rw by wwwrun on the receiver.
If the receiver woul pull the files, the script could chmod after transfer,
but how can the sender do a chown/chmod on the receivers side? Maybe -o -g
-p can be enhanced or

fast way to compare two matrices of combinations
I have a list (length 750), each element containing a vector of unique
strings (unique gene ids), with length up to ~40 (median 15). I want to
compile a matrix of all possible triplets and their frequency within
gene elements. Using combn and a lot of looping, I am accomplishing this
but it is VERY slow.
I've tried to figure out a way to vectorize this, using "match" and

retransfer fail of large files with inplace and broken pipe
Hi,
i have to tranfer large files each 5-100 GB (mo-fri) over dsl line.
unfortunately dsl lines are often not very stable and i got a broken pipe error.
(dsl lines are getting a new ip if they are broken or at least after a
reconnect every 24 hours)
i had a script which detect the rsync error and restart the transmission.
this means that if a file has transfered e.g. 80 % i start again from

Rsync for backups - possible major speedup when local files renamed.
I use rsync regularly for backups of large trees, sometimes
over low bandwidth links, and I would like to suggest a potentially
major speedup under some circumstances, where files or
folders are moved or renamed.
The principle is simple : often people rename a file, or move
it from one folder to another. Current behaviour (please correct
me if I am wrong) is for wget to see this as a

Amiga Samba file format?
Hi Amiga Samba users,
I have an interesting problem using Samba (1.9.16) on the Amiga. Everthing works
fine for PC reads from the Amiga to the PC or dag-and-dropped onto Unix shares (which
also using Samba). However, in the other direction (i.e. at PC GUI drag a Unix file
from Unix share and drop it onto an Amiga share) this copy results in a file that
my httpd on the Amiga can't read (in the

remove-send-files, thanks and question
First remove-send-files is improved in the actual version
and really works better for me, removing is now more in time.
In my case I have a buggy wireless cconnection and rsyncing over night
in a loop, until rsync return 0, because often the pipe connection gets
broken.
After a complete success rsync there are files left on the sender, because
they where transfered right before loosing

Creating a sequence from two samples with several constraints (frequency and repeats)
I'm attempting to create a sequence for an experiment and am hoping I can
use R to create it. It has several constraints:
(1) It is made up of two sequences (red and green) that have 4 different
repeating triplets (e.g. T1=ABC T2=DEF T3=GHI JKL)
(2) Each sequence has the following constraints: (a) there cannot be
repeating triplets (e.g. T1 T1), (b) there cannot be repeating triplet
pairs

No subject
Hi,
I am running Samba on an Amiga connected to a win95 network. It works just
fine to browse around from explorer. But when I access the Amiga from an
FTP-program all the Directorys on the Amiga shows up as plain files with
the size 0(zero). I can not find anyplace to change it so that the Amiga
shows it in a different way. Any suggestions?

Connection PC - Amiga by means of Samba !
Hello there !
My Intention was to connect both the Amiga & PC to some sort of Network, and
it had to be over the serial port, because Networkcards form Amiga are
rather expensive.
As I came up with this idea, I found some information from another person,
who has already thried that, but said no word about installing samba.
The connection worked, both computers can ping eachother over TCP/IP,

Samba - Amiga, smbclient recurs problem
Hi All,
I'm an Amiga user of samba. All is well with server and client except recursive mput
within smbclient. It transfers nothing, and reports no errors. Can anyone help? My
samba version is 1.9.16p9.
More detail: I started with BIN: pointing to amitcp:samba/bin in which I placed sh,
as recommended. I found without recurs set that mput #? (or mput *) reported that
it could not find ls

Samba/Amiga smbclient?
Hi Rask,
I installed the GG ls, as you suggested, and some other directory commands (rm, dir,
..) as well, into amitcp:samba/bin. BIN: is assigned to this. My path looks here
first before amitcp:bin.
I still get no action for mput *, with recurs on, and mask *. Also, lcd prints nothing
as well.
Can you suggest anything else? Am I missing something else, perhaps?
Cheers, Chris.

how to get unique vectors
First, happy holidays, everyone! Thanks to the R team for bringing out
1.4 before the new year.
I have 10000 integer triplets stored in A[1:10000, 1:3]. I would like
to find the unique triplets among the 10000 ones with possible
duplications. What is the easiest way for this. I know the function
unique(), which apply to a vector, not the 10000*3 array in my problem.
Thanks in advance.

Cannot Get Samba to Work Without Encrypted Password with Legacy Client
Hi there,
I have looked for a solution to my problem on the Internet (and in particular this mailing list), but couldn't find one, probably due to searching for the wrong thing :-)
I have an RPI running Samba version 4.9.5-Debian. "pdbedit -L" shows that the user "smbuser" exists. I used "smbpassword" to set the password of "smbuser". I also have

extracting RGB values from a colorspace class object
Greetings,
After pouring over the documentation for the 'colorspace' package, I have not
been able to figure out how the plot() method converts colorspace coordinates
to RGB values for display on the screen. I am convert between colorspaces
with the various as() methods... but cannot seem to find a way to extract RGB
(i.e. for displaying on a computer screen) triplets from color space

Well there is a problem in here somewhere.
Hi,
I am sure this is not going to do my reputation any good. I will be known
as someone who just can't stop asking questions.
Folks, I am guessing there are not too many Amiga people out there. Shame
really. But anyway, in follow up to my problems about getting the two
machines talking to one another:
I kind of got the password thing resolved but it re-apperared. Then

Cannot Get Samba to Work Without Encrypted Password with Legacy Client
Hi there,
Sorry to come back to that, I tried to follow the code at https://github.com/samba-team/samba/blob/master/source3/auth/auth.c#L214 (and below) but I still can't understand why one Samba client can connect, but the other can't.
I can't understand why, with one client, the code would go into "check_samsec.c:183" (and return "sam_account_ok") while, with

rsync as a bakcup tool and the case of rotated logs
Hello,
I use rsync (among many other things) as an incremental backup tool.
Every night I save /{home,etc,var} from several servers. On one of them
we keep 52 weeks of system logs, so each time syslog is rotated all old
syslog.x.gz (where x is between 1 and 213) change names. This impacts
our backup transfers because the incremental snapshot now has to include
all syslog.x.gz files even though
