some people want to use the following construction:
they have a NAS machine with an integrated rsync (may be on embedded linux).
they have a WinXP with cwRsyncServer (with rsync 3.0.2)
and they have on WinXP a network share (i.e. Y:

Hi.
I have a Windows machine (XP/SP2) which i want backup to a Linux machine
(named "Pippi") using rsync. I have cwRsyncServer running on the Windows
machine (10.10.10.90). When i start rsync from the Linux machine after a
while rsync stops - as far as i understand it because of a network timeout.

daemon excludes all my files
Hello
I am new to rsync but I started the cwRsyncServer daemon on an Windows
2003 Server machine with this exclude option:
exclude = *.obj Debug *~ *.bak *.orig .svn Thumbs.db Copy?of?* Kopie?van?* .*
This option I have placed in the global section so I won't have to
repeat it on every module.
You can see my rsyncd.conf file attached.
The problem is now all my files get excluded

Simultaneous Share Access via NFS/SMB
I have a share that has been exported via NFS as well as shared using
Samba 3.0. On the Windows side, all authentication is currently done
using Winbind and Active Directory. On the standalone Samba server (also
authenticated using Windbind) where the exported NFS resides, I have the
same local Unix user (identified by the same name and UID/GID) that I
have on each Unix (Mac/Linux) host that

rsync operation dies
List-
I have an rsync operation that is inexplicably dying during the file list build on the source host (Windows 200 Server). The data set that I am rsyncing lives on what I am almost sure is a degraded raid array. During the file list build sequence, it will pause, the file list count frozen (not incrementing), and eventually die.
Is there an option that I can use during the rsync process that

rsync connection problems since upgrading ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10
I believe I have an issue / incompatibility with rsync 3.x. I'm hoping
someone can help shed some light and /or unblock me.
I had a reliable rsnapshot backup system in place with ubuntu 8.04 and my
windows desktop. After fresh installing 8.10 I consistently got:
rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(794)

question about glm vs. loglin()
Dear R gurus,
I am looking for a way to fit a predictive model for a contingency table which has counts. I found that glm( family=poisson) is very good for figuring out which of several alternative models I should select. But once I select a model it is hard to present and interpret it, especially when it has interactions, because everything is done "relative to reference cell". This

Good Morning-
I am running rsync over Cygwin and am getting an unusual error. The same
error occurs when I attempt to invoke rsync on the Windows command-line
(using cwrsync). Has anyone ever seen it before. Googling it turns up
nothing useful.

possibly an issue with Samba

using time series
Hello,
I'm trying to analyze the behavior of a series of numbers.
Let's say I have the following data: 0 0 0 20 20 20 50 50 53 56 23 24 21 10
0 4 129 159 30 0 0 0 (for example) - these numbers are some measurements
that are taken on equal interval of times (but the specific moment in time
(e.g. spring or march) is not relevant - just equal intervals of time).
What I want to do is based on

Backup dir issue
I am trying to create an archive of one of my home directories for items that
have changed or been deleted. I am well aware of the --backup option, but it
seems not to work across an rsyncd connection
(excuse word wrap from my mailer) but this snippet illustrates the point
ARCH=/bak/archive
