Permissions causing full backups?
I am using rsync/rsnapshot on Windows XP (via cygwin) to backup to a mapped share (/u) on a Linux server. I’m hoping to get this to work so that I don’t have to open an XP share to the network for Linux “pull” backups. My current setup doesn’t seem to give me incremental backups. See the “du” output… $ /usr/bin/du -csh /cygdrive/u/docs_bkup/daily.0/ /cygdrive/u/docs_bkup/daily.1/

Possible bug not deleting files
I am using rsnapshot <http://www.rsnapshot.org/> to make snapshots of my filesystem. rsnapshot uses rsync to do all the heavy lifting. I was recently browsing my snapshots and discovered that none of the excluded files or files deleted in the source are getting deleted from the snapshot. rsnapshot calls rsync like this: /usr/bin/rsync -a --delete --numeric-ids --relative --delete-excluded

rsync between desktop & external hdd.
Hi all, I am a non-technical guy (in some ways) & I did read the man pages but became no wiser. My main aim is to do backups between my hdd & an external 80 GB EIDE hdd. The filesystem is ext3 both on the hdd as well as have made ext3 partitions to the hdd. I have 2 use-cases really :- 1. take an image of my /home/shirish the first time (without the .something files) all the

Fixing some exclude/include bugs
As threatened a while back, there are some exclude/include bugs that I'd like to see fixed in rsync. Here is the patch: http://www.blorf.net/rsync-exclude.patch This fixes the following bugs: - A non-anchored, slash-including pattern with a wildcard needs to be matched at the end of the path (e.g. "CVS/R* should match throughout the tree, not just at /CVS/R*). - A leading

rsync failing with return code 13
Hi there, I'm running rsync on an nslu2 (using nslu2-linux) and it keeps failing with return code 13. The man page doesn't give a good description of what this means ("Errors with program diagnostics") so could someone give me a clue. as to what diagnostics rsync is running and reasons why they might be failing? The only magic to note is the machine only has 32MB of ram so low

Recently ran into a problem with the 2.6.18 kernel on Xscale arch when a br= idge, with multiple interfaces on it, is configured with a redundant loop. = All interfaces are left on forwarding and nexer switch to block when the lo= op is introduced. This was tested against a 2.6.16 kernel and the problem d= id not occur, interfaces forwared and blocked correctly. Any help would be = appreciated.

Odd behavior with --detect-renamed
Hello, I'm totally new to this list, so I hope I don't break all the rules. :) I've looked through the archives (and google), and I really can't find the answer to my question. I'm trying out the 'detect-renamed'-patch, and I've encountered some odd behavior. I've applied the patch to both rsync-2.6.9 and rsync-3.0.0pre7, and it's the same behavior.

rsync filter rules ignored by rsnapshot
Hello guys, sorry for cross-posting, but imho it could be an error in my rsnapshot setup as well as in my rsync setup. If there is a solution on one of these mailing-lists i will post it to the other one as well. ok? here is my question: when running rsnapshot, my exclude filter is being ignored, but i don't see why. grep -v "#" /etc/rsnapshot-debx40.conf | grep . gives

Is -R --link-dest really hard to use, or is it me?
I've got a problem for which the combination of -R and --link-dest doesn't seem to be quite enough---and I may have discovered a few small bugs as well; test cases are below. [And if someone has a scheme for doing this that doesn't involve rsync at all, but works okay, I'm all ears as well---I'm not the first with this problem.] Here's my problem: I unfortunately need to

rsync takes long pauses in xfer ?
Hey folks, I did some googling on this but did not come up with much. I'm using rsnapshot which uses rsync, and I notice some pretty long pauses in the xfers as you can see on this graph from "munin". THe machine in question right at the moment is doing nothing but rsyncing ( rsnapshoting ) some 12T of NAS storage to local disk, so there is nothing else going on at all.

/usr/bin/ssh not found when rsync is executed within rsnapshot
Hello, yesterday i posted this issue on snapshot-discuss at listsourceforge.net (subject: wondering why backup wont start), but after reading the FAQ and searching the bugzilla DB i thought it could help to post here as well. i have a problem. But let me first describe my setup. i followed this howto: http://dev.kprod.net/?q=linux-backup-rsnapshot-no-root Now there is a backup server rpi-home

Double posting
I do not know if i am seeing things, but it seems there has been a lot of double posting lately. It seems it has been only a short while since it started. i thought it might only been some people, though i am seeing an increasing amounts of this lately. Is there something going on with the list or is it a snafu that i have noticed something. letting my big mouth run like always. ;-) Steven

pseudo incremental backup solution
Hello dear list! Just wanted to tell you that there's a simple and somehow smart backup solution using rsync named ccollect [0]. It uses the hardlink feature of rsync to create fullbackups with only minor size differences (it uesd cp -al and pax before). I would be happy for any critic about the software, the documentation the configuration style (cconfig [1]) and the idea itself. Sincerly
