Samba over SSH to Windows Vista
After having scoured the net for a way to do SMB over SSH with Windows,
I've tried everything I have found and I still can't get it to work.
I'm using Windows Vista as the client and FC6 with Samba 3.0.24-1 as the
server. I have set up a share and can successfully connect to that share
with no ssh tunnel.
I would like to tunnel SMB over SSH, so here is what I have tried:

Speed problem connecting to samba over Internet
I have a samba file share configured on RH7.3. smb.conf is below.
I have a stunnel running with: stunnel -d 2222 -r localhost:139
I'm connecting to this from Windows using instructions as per here:
http://www.cheswick.com/ches/cheap/tunnelsolution.html , which is
basically stunnel running in Windows stunnelling port 139 on a local IP
to 2222 on my remote server, so that I can access the

got stuck in setting up samba to linux box through putty tunneling
I read the posting below. but I have not figured out why my vista pc won't work.
here is what I did -
1. I disable window file sharing;
2. in putty, i add a tunnel:
???? source port: 445
???? destination port: my linux box IP: 139
? ?I forward 80. i see http://127.0.0.1 yields my web server's start page.
3 i also use secpol.msc and change local policies -> security options.

"labels" attached to variable names
Hi,
Can we attach a more descriptive "label" (I may use the wrong
terminology, which would explain why I found nothing on the FAQ) to
variable names, and later have an easy way to switch to these labels in
plots? I fear this is not possible and one must enter this by hand as
ylab and xlab when making plots.
Thanks in advance,

lanyrd site for useR! 2012
There's now a page on lanyrd ("the social conference directory") for
useR! 2012 in Nashville:
http://lanyrd.com/2012/useR/
its basically a site for making social mini-networks for conferences,
so people can post up links, share photos, list talks, etc.
If people going sign up then it'll look a lot better than UseR! 2011,
where only three people seemed to have attended - but

A quiet Samba ??
Hello Family,
Our sysadmin at work demands that no one have any Samba projects
other than the single one on our network due to the "NOISE" that is
emitted by Samba.
[question]
Can I still use the current 2.2.2 with my little test setup and not
fall prey to the order to "cease and desist" Samba ?
It's one Solaris-8(Intel) and Win2000 and Win98, three total
machines.

How to tunnel Samba via ssh from Windows XP without having to disable local NetBIOS
The most recent discussions I could find on the internet about how to
tunnel Samba over ssh were on this list
(http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-February/), but no complete
answers were given.
Here is a near complete answer, which works, pulled together from various
sources on the web (which are referenced). Remaining questions are at the
end. It is kind of PuTTY-centric, but as far as I

Garch in the mean
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to fit a series using a Garch-M (Garch
in the mean) model. From what I gathered from the documentation, it does
not seem to be implemented in either fGarch, fSeries, or tSeries. Perhaps
there is an option that allows this functionality. Otherwise, if it's
possible to modify an existing function I would appreciate any guidance on
how to go about

how to run battle for the middle earth 2

I didn't succeed to run this game and I don't know why.
The game installed completely. I installed patch 1.06
and a "nocd" patch. I can set anything in the menu but
when a run a game, it loads and falls back to my desktop
environment.
I use Debian Lenny on amd64 and wine 1.1.42 and another

Oh, right, sorry -- understand what you mean now.
BTW, one of the worst assumptions I've seen is that because a distro
or project ships something, its users believe it was done legally or
with permission. I've seen many cases where
