Merge records in the same dataframe
Hi: Suppose that I have a data frame as below x1 x2 x3 ... x10 wk1 wk2 ... Wk208 (these are the column names) For each record, x1, x2, x3 ... x10 are attributes. and wk1, wk2, ..., wk208 are the sales recoreded for this attribute combination. Suppose that now, that I want to do the following 1. Merge the data frame so that I have a new data frame grouped by values of x2 and x3 (for example).

funny axis ranges; GPretty(.) vs. pretty(.) and all that...
[This is something like a bug report; maybe somewhat longish & technical ..] As an introduction, just try the following code (it should work both in R and S). I think it screws up the postscript() driver both for S and R, but this is not the issue here. is.R <- function() { ## returns 'TRUE' iff we are using 'R' exists("version") && !is.null(vl

Import Possibilities for Excel or lotus 1 2 3 table
Hi, is there any possibility to import excel or lotus 123 (.wk1) files to R without using Excel to export as ASCII itself? Any external converter for unix will also do the job, but i do not know about one. Thanks chris -- Christoph M. Symantec Miniview.exe
Hi: I get emails with *.FXM files attached that are faxes forwarded by WinFax Pro. The message attached says to download Miniview.exe from the Symantec web site which I did and it appears to run in under WINE except that the faxes show up in black. Curiously when I laterally resize the viewer I can view the fax but as soon as I stop resizing it the fax reverts to a blaxk screen. I attempted to

variable share connect times ... how to speed up ?
All - Many apologies if the following is covered in the documentation, but I've looked through it all and can't find it. My question: what conditions affect the speed with which samba allocates a share requested by a client and how can I speed up the process ? Background: I have a number of NT 4/SP 4 clients accessing a number of Unix boxes running samba 2.0.6 which are, in turn,

usa() map
I was wondering if there was a map of the US similar to the usa() map in Splus? If anyone knows of one, or how to convert the Splus usa() map for use in R, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Rich ==================================================== Richard M. Group membership lost unpredictably
Hi, I have a very bizarre problem linking to my Active Directory from my Ubuntu 11.10 system. I have three AD users setup with them belonging to a specific AD group. When I first login a user onto my Ubuntu system, that user is shown to be a member of the group: wbinfo -r <user> And if I show the group members, it also lists my user: wbinfo --gid-info <gid> However - after a

SAMBA digest 2537
Hallo! I have a small question. I wanted to improve Samba-faxing. The system shown in the HOWTO does not include the nice features a faxing-program like Winfax offer. Chain-fax, adressbook and much more. So I began to write a series of scripts to manipulate the incoming fax to send. The text should have all the command on the 1st page. My scripts split the text in two parts: 1st page and pages

I have searched in the R-archive, but unsuccessfully. Do you know whether R contains those shape files? Or where would be possible to download and use in R?
