read permission on rotated logs
When logs (e.g. /var/log/maillog) are rotated (e.g. to /var/log/maillog-YYYYMDD) is there a way via systemd or whatever to assign read permission to a specific group? Right now, for example - ls -l maillog* -rw------- 1 root root 3105240 Mar 13 22:04 maillog -rw------- 1 root root 1079031 Feb 24 04:39 maillog-20190224 -rw------- 1 root root 7237640 Mar 1 12:59 maillog-20190228 -rw------- 1

logrotate broken on 4.1
Hi all: logrotate is broken on my stock 4.1 install. After hunting and hunting I found there is a bug filed with Redhat on the issue. logrotate fails becasue my /tmp partition is mounted noexec. I understand it is that way for security reasons. The box in question is on a dedicated hosting site and that's the way it was handed off to me, built. Some said setting TMPDIR=/var/tmp;export

factanal
# I have a question about how factanal is calculating the regression factor # scores based on an oblique rotation (promax) of the factors. # # As is explained in the help file, regression factor scores are # obtained as # # hat f = Lambda' Sigma^-1 x # # However, according to Harman's "Modern Factor Analysis" (e.g. second # edition, pp. 351-352) the formula is # # hat f = Phi

include/exclude client/server precedence
Hello list: Im a new user, poorly skilled programmer and dont understand the precedences of rules. I understand that: module options override global options but i cant find the relationship between client options and server options. What i want is to: #rsync.conf [module] include = outlook.pst exclude = *.pst *.exe *.com *.mp3 etc... but as i have experienced, these rules only apply if are

Logrotate "firstaction" with non-0 exit status. Or: How to keep logrotate from rotating via scripts?
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with the "firstaction" script in logrotate config files, or more specifically, the behaviour with a non-0 exit status. The logrotate manpage says: firstaction/endscript The lines between firstaction and endscript (both of which must appear on lines by themselves) are executed (using /bin/sh) once before all log

nlme Error: Subscript out of bounds
Hello, I am new to non-linear growth modelling in R and I am trying to reproduce an analysis that was done (successfully) in S-Plus. I have a simple non-linear growth model, with no nesting. I have attempted to simplify the call as much as possible (by creating another grouped object, instead of using subset= and compacting the fixed and random expressions.) This is a what the grouped

Silly logrotate question
Ok, I have Googled this and either I am not asking the right way or I just can't see what's in front of me (sorry)... We have log files called app.2011-10-119.log (with the date changing every day). The log is created by the application each day at midnight. I have logrotate set to rotate files ending in .log at 4am, with copytruncate on by default. If I list the files I see all the old

Using a deriv function in nlme
Hello, I have a deriv function that I am feeding to nlme. It works, and I can use it in nls, but when I try to use it in nlme I get Error: subscript out of bounds. I can fit the model using SSasympOrig, instead of the deriv function, but I am trying to reproduce an earlier analysis (done in Splus) and I get slightly different results with SSasympOrig. Here are my calls: This does fit
