rsync stalls -- sleeps indefinetly
Dear Developers First of all I would love to thank you for a nice tool I had been using rsync within backuppc project to backup my remote hosts. It had been working fine until the moment (as I think) whenever I moved RAID to another box and now the source directory (/raid/research) is now actually NFS mounted. Now backup (rsync process) stalls and sleeps indefinitely On the backup server:

R datasets ownership(copyright) and license
Dear R Developers, Recently filed (and dismissed ;) ) law suit by Astrolabe against tz database developers caused a lot of media-press and discussions and created some kind of precedence in the USA [3]. But also it imho showed that similar attacks might happen in the future, and possibly against data sets which are not that obviously "factual" thus after all might fall under copyright

problems building libvorbis-1.2.0 on Solaris 10 (sparc)
Hello, I'm running into problems while trying to build libvorbis. My build platform is Solaris 10 (sparc) (11/06) with GCC 3.4.6. The build fails with the following error : Making all in examples gmake[2]: Entering directory `/afs/cad.njit.edu/u/a/n/andym/ftp/freeware/multimedia/ogg/libvorbis-1.2.0/examples' gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I../include

/tmp/ gets filled up fast
Dear useRs, I'm running some pretty big R scripts using a PBS that calls upon the RMySQL library and it's filling up the /tmp/ directory with Rtmp* files. I thought the problem might have come from scripts crashing and therefore not getting around to executing the dbDisconnect() function, but I just ran a script that exited correctly and it still left a giant file in /tmp/ without

AFS token passing
Hi I was finally able to build openssh with afs support using the kth-kerberos libraries. I cannot get the token passing to work. I think I am missing something fundamental in setting this up but I can't seem to find any documentation. I would geatly appreciate any advice offered. _________________________________________________________________ Gedaliah Wolosh, Ph.D. 973 596-5437 New

in/exclude[=] and multiple sources
I have been using rsync on and off for years, but it still has the ability to throw me on more occasions than I care to admit:-) Currently I am trying to obtain a better understanding of the --include and --exclude options. Even though I think I have a pretty good understanding of the basic mechanics of these options and can usually get things to work as I want, there are a couple of issues that

negative result in rsync feedback
Hi Rsyncers, I have now succesfully deployed rsync as a means to replicate our main production servers running SCOMBAG^D^D^D^D OpenServer. (Dont worry, we'll let the company die, and switch to something better..) To do so however, I had to split the dirs I sync (25GB orso), into smaller chuncks so it wont barf out regulary. I use filtering for that, and it works pretty well. At least, that

Possibility so that --max-size AFFECTS --delete ?
Hello rsyncers! PRACTICAL CIRCUMSTANCES: Backup1 shall be identical to Original. My traditional custom. NO HELP NEEDED for this. Backup2 shall only be a subset of the original, only files with a certain maximum size and filename/suffix pattern get included. For this I use rsync's filename filters and size limitations! HELP NEEDED here! Thanks! QUESTION: Is there a possibility, so

How to exclude directories from getting their metadata updated? (Macintosh HFS+ with rsync 3.0.5)
Hello everyone! FOREWORD: I respect your time and resources, I hope to not bother people on this mailinglist! To my defense: This question is far easier towards humans than to mailinglist and web search-engines as the search terms in relation to each other are highly in-causal or paradoxical, and hence lead to poor results. Of course the manpage was the first place where I looked

New feature: detect and avoid transfering renamed files
Hello rsyncers, I have long wished for a feature in rsync to detect files that have renamed on the sender side since the last time a sync was performed, and avoid transfering those files to the destination the same way it avoids transfering files that haven't changed. Example 1: a log directory (like /var/log) is backed up every day. Most of the time, rsync transfers very little data, but

New Ubuntu Breezy and Dapper APT repository - stop using sourceforge!
Greetings folks, Since the sourceforge apt repository is woefully limited to just one distribution version, and because it is exceedingly slow and times out a lot, budgetdedicated.com has graciously donated us a blazing fast server to host the fresh Ubuntu packages. To use the APT repository, simply edit 'sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' and then add the following lines, depending on
