rsync.yo doc patch
Patch includes fixes to man page including: - Typos/Spelling - Clarity - Special characters. - Moved around text explaining example. Make sure I didn't confuse the exclude list/file paragraph (line ~961 after applying the patch), I haven't used the feature and the motive of that paragraph is a tad unclear. Hope the patch is helpful. Never had used yodl before. Thanks for rsync. /a

.rsync-/.rsync+ patch and --link-dest example
This is a patch to add an --rsync-exclude option to rsync-2.5.6cvs. File names in .rsync- (or .rsync+) are excluded (or included) from the file lists associated with the current directory and all of its subdirectories. This has advantages over --cvs-exclude for backing up large file systems since the .cvsignore files only apply to the current directory: unless the .cvsignore restrictions apply

Trivial documentation patch
Greetings. I'm not sure if this is the place or not, but I wanted to pass on this patch (against CVS as of today) to document two exit values that are used by rsync but not yet in the docs. Please let me know if there's a better place to send it. Many thanks to the developers and maintainers of rsync for all the excellent work! Jon Index: rsync.yo

How about a --min-size option, next to --max-size
There's a rather old bug report in Debian's bug tracking system (see http://bugs.debian.org/27126) about wanting to be able to specify the maximum file size, as well as the minimum file size. Here's the text: Sometimes, it's useful to specify a file size range one is interested in. For example, I'd like to keep an up-to-date mirror of Debian, but I currently

[patch] --link-dest
Updated to current cvs without the --exclude-from - patch. This patch allows specifying a --link-dest path similar to --compare-dest except that unchanged files are hard-linked to the --link-dest path instead of producing a sparse tree. -- ________________________________________________________________ J.W. Direction (rsync manpage)
Hello, In the rsync manpage I read: A < means that a file is being transferred to the remote host (sent). and A > means that a file is being transferred to the local host (received). In my experience it is just the other way around: A ">" means form source, the local host, to destination, the remote host. Also being transferred to the remote host / ohter harddisk /

[patch] exclude-from stdin
This patch causes --exclude-from and --include-from to read from STDIN when given - for a filename. This was formerly incorporated in my --link-dest patch. vcut(1) and its manpage
Below is a diff to vcut.c and its vcut.1 manpage, which - rewrites the manpage in the mdoc(7) markup as offered in my previous message, and while there: - drops the [] around cutpoint as it is _not_ optional - adds the [] around [+] as it _is_ optional - drops the argument name difference between "cutpoint" and "cuttime" - adds the usage sentence about "." output

csum-length documentation
I was startled to find that the --csum-length option is not implemented even though it is documented in the manpage. Not a good thing. Here's a patch that removes the manpage entry. I'd much rather not see this option and actually have the csum_length be per-file dynamic. Either way this patch should be applied at least until the code changes. The patch also brings rsync.1 and

single quotes in the manpage
In the manpage, all occurrences of a single quote (or apostrophe) are preceded by a backslash. This means that these get turned into acute accents by groff; here's the relevant part of the groff manpage: \' The acute accent ; same as \(aa. Unescaped: apostrophe, right quotation mark, single quote (ASCII 0x27). I think all these backslashes should be removed, as the

Cygwin/rsync Hang Problem Testing Results
People of cygwin & rsync, I recently attempted to get cygwin and rsync working to solve a backup/mirroring need in my computer life. Well, as you might guess, I ran into a little but of trouble. Strangely enough, rsync seemed to be regularly hanging when I attempted to do a "get" (sycronize a remote to a local dir). Well, considering I want to automate this, that was not going

I'm trying to transfer something to another machine launching a once-only "daemon" through ssh with this command: rsync -avv -e "ssh -l user" ./orig/ machine::module/ where "module" is the name of a file in the home dir of user with the following: path = /path/to/home/transfer The ssh connection works without passphrase. Bug: Copying several files to non-directory.
Dear openssh people, Here's something to try: $ echo a >a $ echo b >b $ echo c >c $ $ scp a b c $ $ echo $? 1 $ cat a b c a b b Ouch! Also, for comparison: $ cp a b c cp: copying multiple files, but last argument `c' is not a directory Try `cp --help' for more information. $ rcp a b c rcp: c: Not a directory. $ Note that the cp behavior is specified in SuSv2.
