destination directory problems
I am having a problem getting my files backed up to
the location I want
to from a WinXP client going to a Debian rsync server.
The following is sending asm/ to /home/robert/backup
folder.
rsync -avz /cygdrive/d/asm
robert@192.168.1.102:backup/
My understanding of the rsync man page is that this is
supposed to send
asm/ to what the path that is defined in rsyncd.conf,
mine is defined
as /backup.

owner and group
Hello,
I am trying to copy, on the same server, a set of files. I need to
copy them every day with a cron job.
This is working fine the only problem is that he always changes the
owner and group to the root user.
Is there a possibility that he uses the user of the remote files and
not the root user ?
rsync --archive --exclude ".htaccess" /home/virtual/site5/fst/var/www/

-r required when -a already specified in --files-from?
Hi all,
I am using rsync v.3.0.7 (protocol v30) on ubuntu 10.04.
My rsync line looks like this,
cd /home/shantanu/
rsync -av --files-from=bin/include-to-rsync.dat /home/shantanu/ \
/media/transcend/backup_laptop/shantanu/
include-to-rsync had directories in this format,
bank/
dwhelper/
clients/
When I ran the script I noticed that a files in bank/10-11 were not
getting synced. Upon

Bug: rsync erroneously changes modification time
When a file of same length already exists at the destination then the
command 'rsync --archive --size-only' (--archive is same as -rlptgoD)
may change the modification time of the destination file even if no
modification was made.
Type the following commands in a terminal in order to reproduce the problem:
$ mkdir source
$ mkdir target
$ echo "file one" > source/file

pregunta
Me gusta la respuesta uqe has dado, pero si por ejemplo, alguno de los datos tiene datos faltantes, entonces devuelve NA.
He probado con:
sapply(split(datos$uno, as.factor(datos$dos)), mean(na.rm=TRUE))
pero da fallo.
¿Cómo se podría hacer para que devolviera además la media obviando los NA y que contara el numero de NA por categoria?

panel failure in xyplot
Hello
I ran the code below but it said:
no object "'panel.xyplot.intermediate.hh'"
Please kindly advise how to modify the code.
thank you.
(It works with panel.bwplot.intermediate.hh)

color in xyplot
Hello
I want to draw a xyplot.
Its dots will have three colors: red for meat, green for vegetable, and
blue for both.
I used the code below but could not make the dot in the same group show the
same color.
Please kindly advise how to modify it.
Thank you.

bug in 'margins' behavior in reshape - cast
according to the documentation of the cast function in the reshape function,
I would expect this bit of code from the examples to calculate marginal
means over only the 'diet' variable.
#Chick weight example
names(ChickWeight) <- tolower(names(ChickWeight))
chick_m <- melt(ChickWeight, id=2:4, na.rm=TRUE)
cast(chick_m, diet + chick ~ time, mean, margins="diet")

Main effects and interactions in mixed linear models
Dear all,
This question may be too basic quesition for this list, but if someone has
time to answer I will be happy. I have tried to find out, but haven't found
a consice answer.
As an example I use "Pinheiro, J. C. & Bates, D. M. 2000. Mixed-effects
models in S and S-PLUS. Springer, New York." page 225, where rats are fed
by 3 different diets over time, which body mass has

ReShape chicks example - line plots
Hi,
In the examples from the ReShape package there is a simple example
of using melt followed by cast that produces a smallish amount of
output about the chicks database. Here's the code:
library(reshape)
names(ChickWeight) <- tolower(names(ChickWeight))
chick_m <- melt(ChickWeight, id=2:4, na.rm=TRUE)
DietResults <- cast(chick_m, diet + chick ~ time)

nested repeated measures MANOVA using adonis
I am trying to apply a permuation-based MANOVA (Anderson 2001) to a set of
morphological data from three ecomorphs of fish reared under two different
conditions and measured at two points during ontogeny. I will supply a
distance matrix based on Procrustes distances calculated outside of vegan.
I have not found an example of a design such as this for adonis. However, I
have designed my factors

simple line graphics, labels and legend
Dear users,
I think my questions are pretty simple, but I got lost in the hundreds
of par() and plot() arguments and plot functions, so I don't know in
which direction I should go.
Here is my sample dataset:
test <- structure(list(DIET = structure(c(1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 3L, 3L,
3L, 3L, 3L, 2L, 2L, 2L, 2L, 2L, 4L, 4L, 4L, 4L, 4L), .Label = c("G",

modules madness / ssh regardless of daemon
I just installed rsync on two machines, I think I'm a complete moron,
and I need a clue bat.
The remote machine's /etc/rsyncd.conf (just for testing):

pid file = /var/run/rsyncd.pid
lock file = /var/run/rsync.lock

path = /var/www/auth
comment = apache authentication files.

A small addition to the manpage and "clone mode" suggestion
Dear developers,
In the rsync's manpage, there is a line describing the "archive mode"
option:
-a, --archive archive mode; equals -rlptgoD (no -H,-A,-X)
Archive mode means that all data is backed up sensibly while the same
doesn't apply for all metadata (hence the mentioned -H, -A and -X options).
There is another similar "special file system option" as

changing outlier shapes of boxplots using lattice
Hello
This is Elaine.
I am using package lattice to generate boxplots.
Using Richard's code, the display was almost perfect except the outlier
shape.
Based on the following code, the outliers are vertical lines.
However, I want the outliers to be empty circles.
Please kindly help how to modify the code to change the outlier shapes.
Thank you.
