unable to open configuration file rsyncd.conf
Hello, Rsync is working great for me right now, using version 2.6.5 on two Solaris 9 V100 servers. Box A is the source and box B is the destination, and also box B is my rsync server box. Box A is a rsync client. Yesterdar from Box B I pulled 250 meg just fine from box A with rsync. Today from the client I want to just copy over to the server what files have changed today. So my command

single quotes in the manpage
In the manpage, all occurrences of a single quote (or apostrophe) are preceded by a backslash. This means that these get turned into acute accents by groff; here's the relevant part of the groff manpage: \' The acute accent ; same as \(aa. Unescaped: apostrophe, right quotation mark, single quote (ASCII 0x27). I think all these backslashes should be removed, as the

option 'auth users' in rsyncd.conf
Hi there, this is my first posting to this list, so let me quickly introduce myself. I'm Alex and currently working on a new version of the rsync package for the eisfair Linux distribution?. I have some problems understanding the behaviour of the 'auth users' option in the rsyncd.conf file when running rsync in daemon mode. I set up a module and a secrets file. This is the behaviour

trailing slash on module name
A trailing slash on a module name has no effect, which is on the one hand logical as it's not a directory name; on the other hand it's not consistent either (as experienced by a user). I suggest at least adding some comment to the manpage where trailing slashes are discussed. Perhaps also mention it in the rsyncd.conf manpage, where perhaps it may be noticed sooner. If I find the time

Fwd: Re: rsyncd.conf chroot yes problem with symlink-ing
Ok it's now Solved ! In spite of trying all day long to figure it out what's wrong in my sintax i could find, ...using a pencile and a pice of paper, combining all commands parameters invoked so far and, came to the conclusion that -L does not stand with -l , think that i couldn't find in any docs or faq so far. Now, symlinks are being copied without a trouble. Tnks Paul for

rsyncd.conf chroot yes problem with symlink-ing
Hy there, My name is Alex Vladulescu, and i found this very interesting tool for backup files and folders over remote network servers. For the past four days i have been reading the FAQ on the site, google-ing the web for some answers on my local problem, but i am very stuck, nothing seems to answer my question so far. My issue consists on having a rsyncd.conf on a master server on which i

[Bug 11013] New: [patch] Mention that privileges are dropped, when "use chroot" is enabled in rsyncd.conf manpage
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Only root can chown. If rsync isn't running as root then it ignores the --owner part of --archive. This also makes --numeric-ids inert. Simply put, if you aren't running as root then you can only create files owned by your UID. Rsync knows this. Rsync assumes that if you aren't root you didn't intend the --owner (or --group) part

--exclude-from works but "exclude from" in rsyncd.conf doesn't ?
I'm setting rsync up for the first time and would prefer to have the exclude file defined in the conf file, but the exclusions aren't honoured when I define the parameter in rsyncd.conf - although they are when I specify the file in an argument. The server is the remote system and both rsyncd.conf and the exclude file are the same on both local and remote systems. I'm attaching the

Not all options may be prefixed with a "no-": only options that are implied by other options (e.g. --no-D, --no-perms) or have different defaults in various circumstances (e.g. --no-whole-file, --no-blocking-io, --no-dirs). Server mode and rsyncd.conf
When rsync is used in remote-shell server mode, the documentation says: "Rsync supports connecting to a host using a remote shell and then spawning a single-use "daemon" server that expects to read its config file in the home dir of the remote user." I have been trying to make rsync read a config file (which I presume should be named rsyncd.conf) in the home directory of the

Problems of preserving file owership and uid&gid options in rsyncd.conf
Hi, I am trying to transfer some files to a remote rsync server. I have to preserve the ownership of these files in the remote server for future possibility of copying them back. The command I am using is: rsync -Cav /var/log/mp3log server2::var/log/mp3log I have tried to add -o and -g options but still can't reach my purpose. I also remember to add a same user name to the remote rsync
