SMBFS files receiving incorrect timestamps
Hello all. Our system consists of two linux machines, each running Red Hat 7.1 (kernel 2.4.9-34), using SMB to mount multiple shares hosted by a Windows 2000 Advance Server. smbclient from Samba 2.2.5 is used to do the actual mounting. Over the weekend, a number of files on these SMBFS shares were created with incorrect timestamps (modification times). In some cases, the timestamps were off by

rsync to sync time without attempting to modify the content
Hello I am setting up a central data repository for my team (several thousands of files, totaling about 4TB). There are multiple sources that I need to consolidate: a source may have a fraction of the total number of file, and there can be conflicts between different sources (that should be very occasional though). I want to detect those conflicts and manually merge them. Also, the

Samba vs. Windows : significant difference in timestamp handling ?
Hi there, i still have a weird problem with Powerpoint an Excel files stored on a Samba share. Only read on if you -use a samba share as MULTI-user file repository (no force_user etc.) -where multiple, different users share files in common directories -the modification time of a file is of any relevance to you. (seems like lots of folks don?t bother access rights or keep their information

full upload happening even though only a timestamp has changed
Hello, For no apparent reason Rsync is uploading the whole file even though the the remote file is identical to the local file. Here is a transcript to demonstrate what is going wrong: tomg@nova:~/mylibrary$ rsync -rtlPvessh /extra/library teep:/extra/tomg building file list ... 46349 files to consider wrote 1358812 bytes read 20 bytes 44551.87 bytes/sec total size is 5240249974 speedup is

vorbisfile timestamp oddity
I'm seeing some inconsistency in returned timestamps using vorbisfile. I open a file, read some data (grabbing timestamps with ov_pcm_tell), then seek back with ov_pcm_seek(vf, 0) and read it again. The seek lands back on 0, but on the second read through, there's a gap in the timestamps: they jumps up by 2112 frames. This causes my vorbisfile code to insert silence to maintain sync (as

rsync compression (-z) and timestamp
Hi @all! Sorry about that many questions, but after searching and reading tons different web sites, I didn't find exactly what I am searching for. So, I know that with the -z Option rsync compresses the files with gzip, than the files are transfared and at the target machine uncompressed. I want to know, is there a possibility to see how big the compressed file is, which rsync generates

IAX2 update - timestamp issue within iax pkts
For those that might be using Cisco 7940/7960 sip phones and placing calls across an iax2 link, we think the voice quality problem has been identified and corrected. The dev cvs should be updated as of about 3:30pm CDT today (April 14). History: Calls originating from a Cisco 79x0 sip phone and sent via iax2 link to some distant * machine resulted in very poor quality audio, and in some cases,

Settings file times only
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I restored a filesystem by using rsync to copy directories and files from a backup volume to the newly recreated volume. All of the re-created files were given the current date and time rather than the original file's timestamp. I am sure there was a way to prevent that from happening. Is there a way to use rsync to set the timestamps

Timestamps casted to nil?
Hi, for some reason, all timestamp fields with or without time zone in my Postgres tables seem to be casted to nil. From console: >> me = User.find(''PS12345'') => #<User:0x2379788 @attributes={"mtime"=>"01.03.2006 13:26:32.737166", "valid"=>"8", "valid_from"=>"01.03.1999 14:09:21 CET",

uniform handling of timestamps
considering that sqlite, mysql, postgresql, etc all handle times differently (well only postgresql really *handles* them) i''m wondering how to best approach time fields in rails. my current thinking is that sqlite is the least common denominator: it stores everything as text and does not checking, mysql has datetime, date, and timestamp but does poor checking (crippled to be precise) to

"Last changed" timestamp is ignored?
Rsync's "does this file need to be updated" check can conclude "this file does not need updating" even though the "last changed" timestamp differs. This happens when the size and modify timestamp are equal. Why doesn't rsync consider the "last changed" timestamp in the same respect as the modify timestamp? Doesn't changed mean, er, changed?

Problem handling future timestamps?
I use rsync as a backup tool (via rsnapshot) and noticed that it had a problem with a couple of files which had timestamps way off in the future. You can reproduce the problem quite simply: $ touch -t 207608011200 foo $ rsync -a foo bar $ ls -l foo bar -rw-rw-r-- 1 jburgess jburgess 0 Jun 26 1940 bar -rw-rw-r-- 1 jburgess jburgess 0 Aug 1 2076 foo Since the timestamp appears different between

Keep-timestamp-in-`get'-patch for smbclient in samba-2.0.3
-------- --Multipart_Thu_Apr__8_13:33:51_1999-1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Hello guys, I always wondered why smbclient keeps timestamp in `put'ting a file but does not keep it in `get'ting a file. Alternative to keep the time stamp in `get'ting file is to use -Tc option or smbtar script, but they are a bit hairy for interactive use, and it can only dump files with an

The easiest way to restore timestamps of files?
Please, is possible (with rsync) re-create files timestamps? I mean something like choosing a "-T" in the program mirror- from it's man page e.g. there: http://sunsite.univie.ac.at/textbooks/mirror/mirror.html#Flags "Do not do any file transfers just force the time-stamps of any local files to be reset to be the same as the remote files. Normally only used when initialising a

Resetting tcp timestamp
TCP timestamps on some (but not all?) of our CentOs hosts are being reported as a vulnerability by OSSIM. I have looked into the matter briefly and cannot say that I consider this a serious security issue. The vulnerability seems limited to determining the uptime of the target host. The question therefore arises as to whether or not there is any way to reset the tcp timestamp present value to

static directory timestamp
I am attempting to run an application which must be activated, and the activation requires that the Windows directory and application directory have timestamps that persist from session to session. I am new to Linus (Ubunto 10.10) and WINE(1.2). I have not been able to discover how to get these directory to appear as real, with fixed timestamps, instead of virtual. Can anyone point me to info on

Unix-like touch to update modification timestamp of file?
Hi, is it possible to update the modification time stamp of a file using R (on file systems supporting it)? It is sufficient to update the modification time to the current time. The best I can do for now is: touchFile <- function(pathname, ...) { if (!file.exists(pathname)) stop("No such file: ", pathname); info <- file.info(pathname); if (info$isdir)
