Odd login issue [early Samba]
Cobalt RAQ2/Samba 1.9.18p10
I *know* this is an unconscionably old version of Samba which I will
upgrade as soon as possible, but first I have to get control of things
at a new job and inventory what exists and where. I just got hired one
day ago, thus for now Im just "putting out fires" for a few days.
A RAQ2 is being used as a single site DNS/Fileserver/Mailserver for a

SCM_RIGHTS problem with openssh-3.8p1 build on Cobalt Raq2
I saw some archived messages which I found via Google in relation to some
patches which can be applied to Glibc to fix the SCM_RIGHTS problem when
attempting to build openssh on a Cobalt Raq2.
Is there a way to retrieve the patches which need to be applied? The list
archive search website displays the actual messages which discussed the
topic, but I wasn't able to view any of the attachments

Problem with openssh on linux 2.0.34 mips
Hi
I tried to compile openssh 3.3p1 on a linux 2.0.34 mips system. First I
was not able to compile it at all, but then I added the following line
to monitor_fdpass.c
#define SCM_RIGHTS 0x01
Then it compiled fine, but I am not able to log in. After having entered
the password I get the following message in the logfile:

Fwd: rsync seem to be broken on sparc64
I know almost nothing about modern SPARC64 systems especially when they
are running linux. But, can you try this command line and see if it
gives more information before it blows up:
rsync -vvai /export/test/ /export/test2/

adimpro package : R does not seem to find my ImageMagick installation
Dear list,
(sorry if I post to the wrong place...),
Though having spent some time on it, I cannot find an answer by myself
to the following behaviour of the read.image function (adimpro package) :
I'm running R.2.6.2 on Windows XP. The home directory is C:\Program
files\R\R-2.6.2
Version 0.4.4 of adimpro is loaded.
ImageMagick 6.3.0 is installed, its directory is C:\Program

1.3.11 instability on MIPS?
Hey there.
I have setup an icecast server on a Cobalt RAQ2 (may be a raq1, not
entirely sure) with a MIPS processor. The icecast server compiles, and
runs fine, atleast for a while. But on 2 occasions over the last 10
hours I have had to manually restart the server.
Is there any known bug on the MIPS architechture, or should I
investigate the problem more?
Thanks
Mike

I posted about this in the kernel lists a few months ago to no avail. I
see it on gentoo as well with any kernel newer than 3.18. I came across
this when using lxc on sparc64. The debian template uses rsync to move

Formatting bug in rsync man page? (man -k, whatis, catman -w)
Hi guys, I'm new to this mailing list as I just came across a small
problem after installing the rsync package on one of our Solaris 10
machines.
I installed rsync package SMCrsync v3.0.7 SPARC and although command
man rsync worked, man -k rsync and whatis rsync did not despite the
fact that I had run a catman -w to rebuild the windex databases. After
reading the catman man page, I suspected

--delete-before doesn't seem to actually be deleting before transfer
I have a script transferring some backup files onto a USB stick, which
has limited space. I use rsync 3.0.5 with the following command:
rsync -av --delete-before /local/backups/dir/backup1_todaysdate
/local/backups/dir/backup2_todaysdate
/local/backups/dir/backup3_todaysdate /USBstick/backups/dir
The USB stick runs out of space if more than 1 backup set is put on it,
so I'd assumed that by

Samba seem to work fine but "cannot find my workgroup"
Hi,
I setup a new samba file server (in a priviledged Proxmox container using
the Debian 12 template) and apparently it works fine.
In log I see every 10 seconds:
write_browse_list: Fatal error - cannot find my workgroup DMYDOM
Google found one hint telling it should set "network = ip", but man page
does not explain such an option. Another hint suggests it could be related

rsync man pages, rsync faqs, problem with RSYNC_PASSWORD and --password-file
Hi all,
This isn't a bug, its just a lapse in the documentation.
I just got a script going that repeats every 5 seconds, that uses rsync
to send data from A, running Ubuntu V6.06.1, to B, running cygwin.
I got stuck on the issue of preventing the password prompt from
interrupting the script.
The problem is that the man pages are misleading, they suggest that

rsync man page: out of date corruption warning
Hi all,
The part about the -S option in the rsync man page says:
-S, --sparse
Try to handle sparse files efficiently so they take up
less space on the destination. Conflicts with
--inplace because it's not possible to overwrite data
in a sparse fashion.
NOTE: Don't use this option when the destination is a

rsync-3.0.8: problem with installing man pages when using seperate build dir
Hi all,
there is a little problem when building rsync outside it's source dir with
installing the man pages: they are not found and therefor not installed. The
attached patch fixes this situation.
Kind regards,

Hi there.
Someone might want to notice that - compared to the official rsync man page - this page has a lot more information about each option, when to use and what to expect:

rsync man page questions
I am trying to read the rsync man page. What do the acronyms "CW", ?lq+rq?, and ?lq-rq? mean?
The "Usage" section uses ?CWrsync?.
The ?Filter Rules? section says:
If a pattern does not begin with lq- rq (dash, space) or lq+ rq (plus, space), then the rule will be interpreted as if lq+ rq (for an include option) or lq- rq (for an exclude option) were prefixed to the string.
