Timezone error with chrooted rsync version 2.6.3pre1
Hi,
I am not sure it this still is a point, but I just discovered that a
chrooted rsync version 2.6.3pre1 is forgetting the time zone underways:

"parallelizing" the two initial phases?
Hi (especially Wayne),
ftp.gwdg.de is rsyncing most of the data from about 500 other rsync
servers.
Especially during the general "high traffic" phases like the release of
a new Knoppix ISO or a new SUSE distribution or a new KDE release, I see
timeouts with other servers which have maximum traffic at that time.
There is a general scheme:
1. rsync is building the data base of the

rsyncd.conf: "timeout=<minimal>" crazyness
Hi,
from time to time, in times like today where the whole world is grabbing
SUSE-9.2 and/or debian-30r4, I really like to condemn those other anon
rsync server admins (you know, the successors of the traditional unix ftp
server admins).
They usually have within their /etc/rsyncd.conf a line like
timeout = <very low>
because they are thinking "less" there is "better for

PostgeSQL 8.0.4 on CentOS4.2
In case anyone besides me is interested, installing these packages
on CentOS4.2 seems to work. You can determine the correct mirror
to use from:
http://www.postgresql.org/ftp/binary/v8.0.4/linux/rpms/redhat/rhel-
es-4/
The rpm command that I used was:
rpm --upgrade --nodeps --hash -v <package url>

rsync exclude/include
I want to rsync only a small part of a directory tree. I've set up an
exclude and an include file:
exclude holds:
/*
include holds:
/iso/1.5.*/i386
I am calling rsync using
rsync -avz --include-from="include" --exclude-from="exclude"
ftp3.sourceforge.net::/netbsd/iso iso/
but nothing happens. No files transfered. But I would expect rsync to
transfer files:

A new snapshot
Hi,
I have released a new snapshot of GnuPG, I hope this is one of the
last ones before 1.0.2 ;-)
This is still a BETA VERSION and not intended for general use.
ftp://ftp.gnupg.org/pub/gcrypt/devel/gnupg-1.0.1e.tar.gz (1600k)
The usual diff file is also available, but this time there is only a
detached signature for this diff file, because I noticed to late that

Escape character for --exclude?
Hi--
Ok. I?ve now run into the next thing I can?t find in man, and this time, I
googled as well:
--exclude /afs/\*
I thought you could just say:
--exclude /afs/* or even --exclude /afs/
To exclude the entire afs directory. Can you explain what the purpose of the
\ and * are here?
Thanks again :)
All My Best,
Jeffrey

TINC and OpenVPN tunnel performance on a Windows client
Hi,
I had some performance problems with TINC running on Windows XP. I had a
VPN tunnel running over a wireless network to a Linux VPN server. Web
browsing through the tunnel was a pain. Big web pages with lots of
pictures loaded very slow compared to a plain network connection.
When the VPN client was running on a Linux computer, and a Windows
computer was browsing the web through the VPN

Mirroring directories at once
Dear All
I would like to use the command rsync to have a perfect copy of each
one of five directories and their contents. How can I do that at once?
I know that I can do that directory by directory... but it would not
be the fastest way.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

rsync to retry if copy failed - possible?
Hello,
I want to be 100% sure that rsync copies something from one location to
another.
However, I did not see an option which would make rsync retry an
operation if it failed for whatever reason (network was down when rsync
started, or network went down during rsync was copying something,
connection timed out etc.).
For example, wget has an option like --tries=number Set number of
retries
