Hierarchial storage management or automated archival to tape
Hi list!
While regular backup solutions like amanda or bacula are very good at
their job, ie keeping point2point copies of the files currently on
disk, I find them less suited for archiving - having unused files move
to tape in duplo and stay there until requested. I've even read of
multi-tier solutions - move to slower disks after a week and further
on to tape after a month.
Does anyone

Project Proposal: SAM-QFS
In the last 4 years of using SAM-FS/QFS I have fallen in love with this product. I have tried earlier to ask Sun to incorporate features into this product but in vain.
Do you think the following is worth exploring and in-corporating:
1. Unlike ZFS SAM-FS/QFS File system need "compression" feature turned on with ''setfa''. I understand that''s a whole lot of

Mysterious Javascript showing up & trashing page
Every time I edit a particular page, a bit of javascript myseteriously
shows up when I save it. After that, the page does not lie correctly,
and the items at the end of the list are covered over by elements from
the stylesheet. The script is as follows:

OpenSSH sget/sput suggestion
Not sure if this has ever been suggested before as a feature request, but I
am getting off my lazy a** and sending this Email to your list. Hopefully
you will think it is a wonderful idea.
I am forever using the wonderful OpenSSH on many systems and have done so
for many years. But I often find myself wanting to transfer files while
ssh'ed into another system.
If I could just have a

give me some works
hello, Chris
In the next several months, I will have a lot of spare time. I will
be happy if you assign some work to me. I have learn linux kernel
for years but only fix a few small bugs in IP stack. In the past few
months, I read some EXT4/VFS codes. I began reading source of btrfs
ten days ago and have read it twice now.

[PATCH 0/5] Btrfs: mount error handling fixes
A bunch of fixes (memory leaks, NULL pointer dereferences and devices
hanging in busy state) to sanitize error handling during mount sequence.
This is on top of for-linus + slyfox''s double-free fix.
Thanks,
Ilya

Linux Arch: kernel BUG at fs/btrfs/inode.c:873!
Hi,
I have a home server on Linux Arch (kernel 3.11.2) that uses
multi-device btrfs on root filesystem.
Until recently it worked completely fine. And yesterday I rebooted it
and the machine did not wake up.
I booted from a USB (kernel 3.10) and tried to mount the filesystem.
Here is OOPs I see

Is samba or a kernel bug causing my FC4 server to crash?
I've got a fully updated Fedora Core 4 server crashing hard every week or
two. I use Samba via smbmount and autofs to read & delete log files on 17 XP
boxs and 6 NT4SP6 boxes as well as a couple other Windows files servers
every 5 minutes. The first indication of a problem I get is smbmount stops
working, then the server becomes unresponsive to the point where only a
power slam will fix

3Ware 9650SE and XFS problems under Centos 5.3
Hello all,
Came across my first real "problem" in all the years I've been using Linux today and I'm stumped for an answer.
I've recently built a back-up server on top of Centos 5.3 using a 3Ware 9650SE 4 port SATA card and 4 x 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 array. I went for the 3Ware card as it has driver support already so any kernel updates won't require me to rebuild the
