multiple --link-dest options
I use rsync to backup several servers to harddisk on a backupserver.
To save space i use the --link-dest option which creates a hardlink to
the file of the last backup if the file hasn?t changed.
Under certain circumstances the file doesn?t exist in the last backup,
but in the second last backup ore somwhere else.
If for example a backup couldn?t be completed (maybe because of a loss
of power)

Bug#666024: rsync --link-dest can incorrectly hardlink together destination files
[please Cc: 666024-forwarded at bugs.debian.org on any replies, thanks]
Please see the attached Debian bug report, which includes a helpful
bug-reproducing shell script; I've confirmed this still happens with
3.0.9.

please help: smbd 100% cpu usage
hi,
i've a problem with samba 3.0.2. there is one windows ME client which used
to work with out any problems. now, as soon as the user connects
(sharelevel: user, or share - i've tried both) on smbd is forked which
causes 90 to 100% cpu load. when i stop samba (smbd/nmbd) this proces does
not die i can only get rid of it whit a kill -9. with this no data can be

--detect-moved patch and --link-dest
Hi,
I am using --link-dest for my rotating backups. Noticing the
"--detect-renamed-lax" patch to rsync 3.0.0. I was hoping to make use
of the --detect-moved. Unfortunately, "--detect-moved" does not seem
to recognize the --linkdest option. A moved file is getting transferred
again and a new file is created at the receiving end instead of
linking to the moved

Cannot install/run very important application
Hello everybody!
I've got a big problem: In my small business I use a Home-banking
software which I got
from my bank. Using it for many years now, it became very very important
for me.
Needless to say, it's a Windows software. Up to now, it was a Win 3.1
software which ran inside the Windows-Box of my ancient OS/2-PC. (The
only reason
why I still have this PC runnig OS/2).
This summer I

graphics history
dear useRs and developeRs,
I am afraid it is a very basic question, but I did not find anything alike in the literature.
The R standard graphics device shows the opportunity to activate the history of plots drawn within the current session. Th user can scroll back and see the last graphs (or same graph with some changes in parameters). I did not find out yet how to activate the history by code.

OpenSSH on Reliant UNIX
Hello, it's me again !
I tried to compile / install OpenSSH on our Reliant UNIX
system, OS version 5.45 (and 5.44).
The following problems did appear:
1. OpenSSL-0.9.5a will not compile out of the box.
The problem on RU 5.45 is, that the compiler does
support "long long" but NOT "unsigned long long".
The latter just provokes the error message
"superfluous

Rhosts-RSA authentication broken
Hello !
I think a problem was introduced in openssh-2.3.0p1 which is
still there in the latest openssh-2.5.2p1. I just noticed it
before my vacation and could not send this mail earlier than
today.
The problem is:
You can't use the Rhosts-RSA authentication based on the hosts.equiv
file and the host keys.
The only possible way to do rhosts-RSA authentication is to allow
the usage of the

rsync: stat "/path/to/dest/file" failed: No such file or directory (2)
Well, the title says it all..
I tried to research on this subject, but didn't find anything conclusive to
me.
Can somebody explain that error? If the file on destination isnt there, why
not just copy it from source, why an error?
I did a backup with rsync -aH --linkdest="/path/to/linkdir"
/path/to/original /path/to/backup... basically rsyncing into an empty
hierarchy. No errors

problems with usb stick after suspend and wake up
Dear all,
(please Cc)
I am running latest kernel (3.17-rc6) and I see corruption of an usb3.0
device usb stick. Strange errors, impossibility to mount.
Repeated unplugging and replugging helps sometimes, in all cases
recovery is necessary.
Is this a know problem, a problem of my system
Debian/sid, uptodate, self-compiled kernel
of the suspend program (that initiates the suspend),

Hi Alan,
thanks for your answer.

Here cleaned output of journalctl, removed mainly networkmanager stuff.
This is about a wake up after sleep, where before the stick was ok.
More details necessary, let me know.
Thanks

2.2.4? I didn't think SSL was implemented until version 2.4.3.
What would be helpful, not to mention useful, is to explain specifically
and exactly what goes into the key file. The choices are: your server's
private key, your server's public key, your server's certifying
authority (CA) key, maybe even the curl CA. I've also seen this in
examples of the SSL stanza from

Possible to light up a LED on Snom phones?
Hi everybody!
I've setup my dialplan so that if an extension dials *21*, that
extension is added/removed as a queue member to a queue. (State toggled).
But it would be great to get an "optical feedback" of that phone's state
regarding the queue membership.
Does someone know if it is possible to light up a LED under this szenario?
Many thanks!
