Excludes not working
Hello,
I'm a relative newbie to rsync, I use it to backup (mirror) a bunch of
Windows boxes. I mount them using samba (to avoid having to install the
cygwin version on each box) then run (using rsync 2.5.2 run from crontab)
rsync -vuaz --delete-excluded --exclude-from=/root/bin/rsync.exclude \
--modify-window=2 /mnt/pc/machine/share /backup/machine/share
It works like a charm, except

rsync -auIn not doing what I expect (rsync 2.6.3)
Hi,
Some of my files recently became corrupted due to disk I/O errors (bad
SCSI terminator). I've fixed my I/O errors, run fsck, and am now
wanting to restore from my rsync backup.
However, some time has passed, and users have continued working,
creating new files, in some cases with the same filename as existed
before the disk I/O problems started. E.g. editing a .c file to fix a
bug.

Re: [Rocks-Discuss] Rocks or Virtual Cluster?
Thanks for the input. I wish I had a link to the article. It''s just not clear to me, yet, if they are saying that rocks can cluster up virtual servers such as xen or if rocks could be installed inside of multiple vm machines to create a redundant cluster. Either way, sounds interesting.
I''ve played with GFS clusters using them for web services and have been using VMware but

Idle connections timing out
Hello,
I''m a Shorewall novice. I have a problem and I''m not quite sure
how to troubleshoot it.
I''m using a Mandrake 9.0 (Security Level "4") system, which came
with Shorewall. (I live in Lynnwood, not far from Shoreline, btw.)
Long lived but idle connections are dying. Examples are SSH
terminals where I don''t type anything, and IMAP connections

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails - FIXED
Hi,
After trying too long I fixed the problem below by reverting to the old
3c905 NIC. Problem solved but not understood.
I had a similar 3c2000 NIC in another Samba server and it also failed to
copy a large amount (5000+) of files. So that's two completely servers
(hardware and Samba / Slackware version) having the same problem with any
number of different clients. I couldn't imagine

OpenSSH and Xauth
Hi...
I have tumpled over quite a big problem on my machine. I'm running
Debian Potato with OpenSSH-1.2.3 protocol 1.5 installed from the
debian packages. When I ssh from any computer (including my own) then
I can't get any programs to display X. I have turned ForwardAgent and
ForwardX11 on in my ssh_config. When I turn on debugging this is what
I get:

That's certainly on the list of options. I'm doing data gathering right now
to see what options there are. I'd prefer not to rashly decide to run off
in a direction only to discover this is already a Solved Problem.

weird issues with DH Group1 key exchange
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
We recently upgraded to OpenSSH 4.2p1 with the chroot patch supplied on
sourceforge. Since then, we've noticed odd problems with random client
failures. Today I wrote little scripts to keep restarting sshd with the
- -ddd flag and finally captured what's going on, I believe.
First, openssh is compiled as so:

I would re-install Rtools, and make sure C:\Rtools\bin appears first in
your PATH.

Locked files stay locked - copy operation from XP to Samba fails
Hi,
When trying to copy 5000+ files from a client PC to a Samba server I have
the following problem. Halfway during the operation it hangs on always the
same file. Windows XP (SP1) gives:
Unable to copy file [filename]. Specified network name is no longer
available.
(I had to translate this from Dutch, so it is not the exact message).
When checking with smbstatus I get this:

Thanks Bart. Unfortunately "The VIB module does not comply with the
security recommendations imposed by VMWare. You lose VMWare support by
installing this package." This pretty much rules out this option. :(
We need vCenter support, as well.
