SUGGESTION: rsyncing gziped source with non gziped destination
Would it be possible to make rsync capable to sync gziped source (at server) with non gziped detination file? PROBLEM: The rsyncd server provides a few *frequently* accessed, slow changing, *big* text files (DNS RBL zones). It seems that the source files are too big to stay in memory caches and rsync sessions cause to many hard disk I/O operations. Making rsynd capable to "ungzip"

Big timeout time
Hi I'm using rsync 3.0.3 on a NAS. In the parameter list I use --timeout=1800. However sometimes I get very big timeout times like this one: io timeout after 12220 seconds -- exiting rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(239) [sender=3.0.3pre1] rsynd.conf on the receiving side only defines modules, no timing parameters. How can that happen? What can I do to prevent

Reset events after ajax update
Avoiding real work I decided to try and clean up my html and remove my inline onclick handlers for Ajax.Updater calls. Here''s the inline method I''ve been using: http://hank.org/demos/ajax-inline.html Now, here''s using <script> sections to apply the behavior. http://hank.org/demos/ajax.html (firefox only) Since the links (tabs) are inside the

High Availability using 2 sites
We currently have a backup site at a different location to our main site. This backup site mirrors (as closely as possible) our main services, particularly web serving. Is there a way to have the backup site act as a failover for the main site using something like Linux-HA? They are on seperate internet connections with different IP ranges. Thanks -- Tim Edwards

Reference Classes: how to clone/copy instances?
Dear list, I don't know what's the correct term for this in the OOP context, but is it possible to "clone"/copy an instance of a reference class (say 'a') so that I get an *autonomous* second instance 'b'? Autonomous in the sense that changes to 'a' do not affect 'b'. I know that this is somewhat against the pass-by-reference paradigm, but the

maps for Russian Federation
Dear all, I am interested in plotting maps visualizing spatial statistics in an aggregated fashion, according to administrative boundaries. Partially, I want to visualize some spatial data for administrative units (autonomous republics, oblasts, krays) of the Russian Federation on a geographical map. I have found the maps package (and related) and would like to use this package e.g. in a kind

automatically adjusting axis limits
Dear R users, I am a newbie. Just switched from MATLAB. So thanks a lot for your patience. I have 50000 spectra collected in field. Each spectra has two columns : Wavelength (56) and the actual measurement. Each measurement came in a different .txt file on disk (50000 files in total). I wrote a script that reads every spectra in a for loop and constructs two variables : Wavelength (56) and

FLAC format: "autonomous" documentation
Hello, I read through the specifications here: http://flac.sourceforge.net/format.html but the document is not "autonomous". Instead, sections entitled "prediction" and "residual coding", use external references, some of with are unavailable (dead link) or in poor state. What i mean here is that it is not possible to write a decoder from scratch using only the spec

Problem with read.table()
Hello everybody, I'm a new user and I'm trying to use read.table with a tab delimited file but the system tells me (i) that there are more columns than column names, and (ii) that headers and col.names are of different lengths. I have already checked my variable names and there's no blank spaces. However, some variables have quite long names such as

[PATCH] Add support for ldns
Hi, as discussed before, we're trying to make use of SSHFP records (RFC 4255) to publish host key fingerprints in the DNS. However, some non-OpenBSD platforms don't support DNSSEC in the native resolver (e.g. glibc), which renders the whole thing quite useless, since openssh correctly requires the RRs to be signed and validated. The following patch adds support for ldns, an external

Dear OpenSSH Developers, I'm a member of the Debian System Administration (DSA) team. [1] We manage the Debian Projects computing infrastructure. Recently, DSA had the opportunity to address a member's request that we begin using certificates to authenticate Debian Project machines to ssh clients. We provided a lengthy reply, the summary of which is "we publish SSHFP records; use

Solar controller?
Hi NUT developers, we rely on NUT to access valuable UPS data for our autonomous telescopes (see http://rts2.org for list, locations are not complete..) . Thanks for a software which does exactly what we need. Now we are starting new era, with installing telescopes on hostile spots without infrastructure. So we will have a solar cells, storing power to batteries during day, to be used during
