File locking issue
I have a client with an older server that is running into a weird file locking problem. The server is running FC2, samba 3.0.7 and kernel 2.6.10. They have recently installed AutoDesk Revit, which is apparently some sort of collaborative design software. Revit keeps a central repository and then allows different clients to access it. What is happening is that only the person who created the

URGENT: Update issues from 3.6.6 to 3.10.2 Accessing files via samba come up with permission denied
Hi everyone, Is there anything else we could do to check on this problem and try to fix it? The issue is definitively related to either the samba vfs gluster plugin or gluster itself. I am not sure how to pin it down futher. I went ahead and created a new share in the samba server which is on a local filesystem where the OS is installed, not part of gluster: # mount | grep home ]# ls -ld /home

URGENT: Update issues from 3.6.6 to 3.10.2 Accessing files via samba come up with permission denied
Thanks for taking the time to look into this. Since we needed downtime due to the gluster update, we also updated the OS, including samba. We went from 4.2.x to 4.4.4 and many other packages for CentOS were updated as well. OS and samba updates were installed, then server rebooted, then gluster was updated. Created a new test samba share to minimize logs, etc: [VfsGluster] path = /vfsgluster

URGENT: Update issues from 3.6.6 to 3.10.2 Accessing files via samba come up with permission denied
Hi, Over the weekend we updated a two server glusterfs 3.6.6 install to 3.10.2 We also updated samba and samba-vfs to the latest in CentOS. I enabled several of the newer caching features from gluster 3.9 for small file performance and samba, and we now seem to have some issues with accessing files from glusterfs. When users try to access some files, they get a Permission denied message. This

Did the logs provide any hints as to what the issue may be? Diego On Sat, Jun 3, 2017 at 12:16 PM, Diego Remolina <dijuremo at gmail.com> wrote: > Thanks for taking the time to look into this. Rsync over windows remote desktop
Hello, Not sure if any of you can help me with a rsync challenge I am having, but here goes. I am trying to get two Windows XP professional computers to synchronize using a windows remote desktop connection. When remotely connected to one of the computers from the other in Windows explorer the folders and drives of both computers are visible. However when I try to run a Rsync script to make the

Problem syncing to Netapp (rsync: failed to set times on...)
Hey folks. I have a machine that I use as an intermediary to rsync between a NAS in another building (the users there have poor bandwidth and need local storage) and the our Netapp located in our Datacenter. I get lots of the "rsync: failed to set times on..." errors, and files which have already been transferred just try to sync again anyway. These are the mount options that I use

Question about --files-from= and folder structure
I'm writing a script to sync some mp3 files. Due to a limitation in the number of destination files that can be read from my thumb drive, I'm not looking to preserve the original file structure (actually, I'm looking to sync *only the files* to the new destination directory). The source files are all subfolders under /backup/Music: ./Adrian Legg/Mrs. Crowe's Blue Waltz/Paddy

mail-migration with dovadm sync/backup and mail_attachment_dir
I need to run a mail-migration from a Dovecot with mail_attachment_dir / single instance storage enabled. As mailboxes and mail_attachment_dir are rsynced I would normally run a doveadm backup -u <user> -R -d dbox:<path to rsynced mailbox>/dbox How can I tell it the mail_attachment_dir the rsynced source / (reverse) destination uses? Or do I have to start a Dovecot process and use

Sub_scribe and a question
Dear all, I am trying to get an estimate of the intercept for a linear model. In this case, I know the slope of the model, can anyone tell me how to constrain the formula in lm() so that it only estimates the intercept not the slope? Many thanks in advance, Sincerely, Liqing Zhang Dept. of Eco. Evol. Biol. Univ. of CA, Irvine email: lzhang at uci.edu >From VM Mon Apr 30 08:18:45 2001

Samba as a PDC in a citrix environment
Hi all, this is a long time since my last post to this list and I have got a small question... (ofcource :) I'm going to introduce citrix into our office (two citrix XPa servers which are load balanced). According to the Citrix XPa docs it is not a good idea to use one of this servers as a PDC/BDC, I can imagine that (we wouldn`t want to give NT to much responsebilities). so my question

rsync --delete-hide
Hello! I was wondering wether or not this would be a viable option to add to rsync: --delete-hide Instead of deleting the file, rsync would rename the file using leading ?.? and trailing ?.deleted-{timestamp}?. rsync -rv --delete-hide /src/ /dst/ For example if /src/readme.txt had already been rsynced to /dst/readme.txt and then later was deleted from /src, rsync would - instead of deleting

Problem with large number of files and --delete
I have encountered an interesting problem when trying to move over a mail store last night... I tried to rsync our mail store from our old mail server to the new mail store... minimal changes to the data since I had rsynced it not 3 hours before... The mailstore in total is 14GB total. Here is what I am using: /usr/local/bin/rsync --verbose --progress --stats --compress --rsh=/usr/bin/

securing a remotely hosted machine
Hi, I'm looking to put together a doc for the wiki.c.o on howto secure a remotely hosted machine. Its a situation that many of us find ourselves in, wherein we either lease or colo a server ( or many ) and there is always the issue of remote hands, other facility users etc being able to get physical access of the machines. So what are the usual steps that people take in order to secure

rsync fails to sync files
Hi, I'm seeing a weird problem with rsync 2.6.9 protocol version 29 on Debian Sarge. When copying a file from one location to another between two Debian boxes, if destination includes a file with same size and name, rsync fails to see that they are not exactly the same file. The situation originates from copying a file to a place which is periodically rsynced onwards, and the rsync

Bug in rsync? (--delete[-after])
Hello! I think I've found a bug in some (older) versions of rsync. The problem does not seem to have been reported at bugzilla. And of the 9 bugs found there by searching on "--delete-after" all have got the name wayned@samba.org attached. I ask you therefore to check if this problem is found in the newest version of rsync as well! I've read the warnings at rsync.samba.org
