daemon excludes all my files
Hello I am new to rsync but I started the cwRsyncServer daemon on an Windows 2003 Server machine with this exclude option: exclude = *.obj Debug *~ *.bak *.orig .svn Thumbs.db Copy?of?* Kopie?van?* .* This option I have placed in the global section so I won't have to repeat it on every module. You can see my rsyncd.conf file attached. The problem is now all my files get excluded Now on

"Bad address" error
I'm getting a "bad address" error which is causing my rsync process to bomb out. I'm running RsyncX 2.1, in daemon mode on the source machine, with a script to pull the information to the backup server. Both servers are Xserves running OS X Server 10.2.8. Rsync target is on an Xserve RAID. The RAID has 350GB free, so I'm not running into a disk full situation. My command

excluding based on filesystem?
I'm using rsync as part of a system to create nightly snapshots of several servers, much like several people are appearently doing. However, I have a bit of a problem with things that I don't want backed up. On most of the systems, things like devfs, procfs, sysfs, etc don't need backed up. In addition, I have directories from one server NFS mounted on several of the other servers -

possible bug with exclude/exclude-from
Hi While trying to back up my homedir, i found what looks like a bug: from /home, i do: rsync -CWavP --delete --delete-excluded \ --exclude=".phoenix/default/*/Cache/" \ --exclude-from=rsync-excludes \ myusername/ targetserver:/backup/myusername/ rsync-excludes contains (without [] lines): [start] #comment **.xvpics** *.swp [end] This works

How to prevent deletion of files on the client side?
I've a problem understanding the --delete option (well, I think I understand why it works that way but I miss how to make it work the way I want). I want to use rsync to "mirror" two live Apache servers (I've tried to simplify my problem to a small example, but it's part of a bigger project). Regularly, the apache directory tree is rsynced from a master server to its slave

exclude an excluded file from being deleted by --delete-excluded
Hi, I have a particular directory in my exclude list, but I want it excluded from --delete-excluded. Is this possible. or maybe if I explain what I'm trying to do, someone will come up with a more suitable way. I am using rsync (2.6.6) to backup data from a Windows Server (cygwin) to an OpenBSD box. rsync -rtvz --delete-excluded --del --timeout=3600 -e "ssh -i c:\cygwin\ssh-key"

include/exclude bug in rsync 2.6.0/2.6.1pre1
As mentioned on the rsync home page, the --files-from=FILE option in rsync version 2.6.0 is a useful option that allows one to "specify a list of files to transfer, and can be much more efficient than a recursive descent using include/exclude statements (if you know in advance what files you want to transfer)". However, --files-from does not help one implement the --rsync-exclude=FILE

Platform variations with --exclude-from
On Linux, an rsync command and exclude_file contents of: # cat exclude_file /etc/alsa # rsync -a --delete --delete-excluded --exclude-from=exclude_file /etc server::module properly excludes /etc/alsa but not any file within /etc's directories that is named alsa. On Windows I don't seem to be able to reliably emulate this: C:\Scripts\Backup\rsyncd>type rsyncd_exclude

Excludes in /etc/rsyncd.conf
Thought that you are able to add a simple - + with paths or file names at the bottom of a file and run an rsync and those are then recognized inclusions or exclusions from the synchronization -- Jason G Helfman Network Administrator BizRate.com 310.754.1264 desk

yum-fastestmirror inconsistent exclude behavior
Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out something wherein excluded repositories for the yum-fastestmirror plugin are still being used by the system. To illustrate: [root at sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf [main] enabled=1 verbose=0 socket_timeout=3 hostfilepath=/var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt maxhostfileage=10 maxthreads=15 #exclude=.gov, facebook exclude=maulvi, .gov.ph, .vn

What's wrong with my exclude rules?
So, given this (broken up for email - it's all one line in the script): /usr/bin/rsync -q -a -e ssh -H --delete --delete-excluded --ignore-errors --include "/" --exclude "/proc/*" --exclude "/proc/bus/usb/*" --include "/boot/*" --exclude "/dev/pts/*" --exclude "/dev/shm/*" --exclude '/tmp/*' --exclude

--backup requires remote connection?
Does the --backup, --backup-dir set require that either then source or target be a remote connection? Test folder hierarchy: /Users/localskaiser/source/myfile.txt /Users/localskaiser/source/a/b/c/newfile.txt /Users/localskaiser/target /Users/localskaiser/archive I can not get the following command to work (after running it once, and then modifying newfile.txt): [skaiser-pbg4:~] localska%

CYGWIN Rsync exclude/include problem
I'm having troubles with getting rsync 2.5.5 (CYGWIN version) to include/exclude files they way I expect it to. I have mulled over the list postings and man pages regarding this and I am either missing something or ... well I don' know. I have a drive with 12 folders in the root however, I only want to rsync 5 of them (the ones marked with an *) and in those 4 I want to exclude certain

--exclude-from works but "exclude from" in rsyncd.conf doesn't ?
I'm setting rsync up for the first time and would prefer to have the exclude file defined in the conf file, but the exclusions aren't honoured when I define the parameter in rsyncd.conf - although they are when I specify the file in an argument. The server is the remote system and both rsyncd.conf and the exclude file are the same on both local and remote systems. I'm attaching the

Exclude & --delete not working?
Hi there, we have an odd problem, which maybe how rsync is intended to work, but I think not: On server side, we run rsync in daemon mode with a share [foo] that has a serverside path of /foo. On client side, we invoke rsync -zavuSH --delete server::foo/ /foo. The rsync daemon uses an exclusion list. The problem is, the client rsync deletes clientside whatever is in the exclusionlist. Combine exclude files
Hi I'd like to have a list of excluded items that I can always use and combine them with job-specific excludes (or generally filters). Is it possible to use --exclude-from more than once? Do I have to combine the exclude files into one and give this to rsync? Is there another possibility (that also works on Windows)? Thanks bye Fabi

Dynamic yum.conf 'exclude' line
Hi All, I have finally switched to using hiera (worthy goal!) and I am looking for a flexible way to manage the ''exclude'' line in /etc/yum.conf. I want to be able to specify from different classes RPMs to be excluded in /etc/yum.conf, then build the exclude line from all those classes that set an exclude. In my hiera hierarchy, I use %{calling_module}, but I actually modify

--delete-excluded by default?
rsync is deleting all the files that match my exclude strings, but I don't want this to happen and I am not using the --delete-excluded option. Is this a known problem/feature? The files it is deleting DO still exist on the sending server. Here is the command I'm using: rsync -avzul --delete blue1-eth1::mod1 /home/.sites and it is version 2.5.5-C1 Thanks, -e.l.

rsync with --exclude files
HI, I'm trying to exclude some files & directories from a filesystem which I would like to copy to a different site. I did: # rsync -avz --exclude-file=/fs21/tmp/perl_scripts/exclude.txt /fs22/a/circuit_design mickey.willow.com:/cpu/store/design where file /fs21/tmp/perl_scripts/exclude.txt contains the following directories and files to be excluded from /fs22/a/circuit_design :
