rsync and Perl programming
Hi everybody -
I'm trying to write a Perl wrapper for some rsync tasks that need doing.
Problem is, there's some sort of odd interaction going on between Perl
and the daemon mode communication for the rsync client, and I'm at my
wit's end in trying to figure it out.
Here's the Perl script:

users home directorys
Hi All,
Is it possible for different users to sync their home directory's (which
reside on the same server) using rsync. By that I mean that usera will
using rsync to sync /home/usera and userb will sync /home/userb on the
same server but usera will not have access to /home/userb. I hope I am
making sense. I do not want to use ssh, just rsync. I have RTFMs but
they did not answer my question.

Rsync and open files
I didn't see this answered in the FAQ, and it's important to one of my
application owners.
How does RSYNC handle open or write in process files?
Thank you!

partial transfer
I am attempting to use rsync to backup a Win98 laptop to a FreeBSD 4.8
backup server. I have experienced the same problem at roughly the same
point in the process on two occations. The laptop contains ~2.7Gb of data.
On the first attempt we received this error at 2.3Gb and on the second at
2.4Gb.

rsync-2.5.6 performance sucks between winXP and Solaris8
If I try to rsync OpenOffice-directory (OO as an example, 155 MBytes)
to Solaris8-machine/rsync-server it takes 4-5 minutes, about
70 MBytes gets transfered and eventually rsync.exe/winXP "dies"; actually
winXP's net doesn't responde anymore and I have to boot whole machine!
But when I try to do same between Linux and Solaris everything
works fine, transfer speed is about

Rsync hangs with XP machine used as sshd server
I have a problem with rsync 2.6 protocol 27 (both client and server)
running over XP via Cygwin and sshd (on remote machine). It just hangs
almost randomly while transfering files after transfering a few
megabytes, not always on the same file. When the remote machine is a
Linux server I have no problems, bad news is I need also to rsync from
XP... I found the problem mentioned somewhere

Problem with ownership of non-root files at destination
I'm using rsync to mirror my Sharp SL-5500 Linux PDA
home directory to my Linux desktop over a
TCP/IP-on-USB link.
I'm running the following command as root on the 5500:
/home/QtPalmtop/bin/rsync -av /home/zaurus \
192.168.129.1::zaurus
I'm running the rsync server out of xinetd. I have
verified with 'ps' that the server, when it starts, is
running as root. The files are

Root access over ssh?
Is it possible to configure rsync in server mode, to gain access to root
protected files, without the user having to log in as root through ssh?
I'd prefer to login as a regular user through ssh and access an rysnc
server on the host that's running as root. As far as I can tell,
however, that's not possible...am I wrong?

Operation not permitted?
Hello,
Can someone tell me what the problem is here. I am doing an rsync on a
sendmail spool directory to a folder that is a samba mount. Why is rsync
trying to change owner? Does it have to?
I tried manually changing owner (as root) on a file that is sitting on
the samba mount and I got the same operation not permitted error. Does
anybody know why this is? Or do I need to ask in a samba

Feature proposal and implementation plan: --delete-delay
Hi folks,
One feature I've wanted in rsync is the ability to delete files that no
longer exist in the source *after some specified grace period.*
The functionality I'm looking for is a backup system that won't actually
delete files until a week or two after the user does. This would:
1. Protect against accidental file deletions; the user would have
some time to realize the

--suffix problem - possibly bug?
I'm having an issue with the --suffix and -b flags -
I've tried the following commands:
rsync -avbr --backup-dir=/rsyncbackup rsynctest user@server.com::module
rsync -avbr --backup-dir=/rsyncbackup --suffix="" rsynctest
user@server.com::module
and either way, I wind up with a tilde as a suffix on all the files
moved into the backup directory at time of synchronization.

Professional grade rsync?
Hi, folks.
We've gone where no man has gone before. On HP-UX, rsync bombs at about
1.75 million directories, files and links (combined sum) in a single
transfer.
Is there a professional-grade alternative on HP-UX for folks willing to pay
for it? It wouldn't even need to be network-aware, just from single-system
areas to the same box, but with the nifty delete and update features that

RSync on Windows 2003
Hello,
I'm desperately trying to have a RSync server work on a Windows 2003
Standard Server.
All the documentation available I have found applies to Windows NT/2000/XP
I don't know whether 2003 works differently from the previous Windows.
I have installed the cwrsync package.
The RSyncServer Service is running fine under a user account named cwrsync.
