How to improve speed of a single file transfer over an unstable link?
Long time fan and user of rsync, with a question. First some background...
What I'm trying to do is copy a 21GB backup file from my parent's house to
my home to help them with their new computer. But the link is sporadic,
thus a continous copy will not succeed. The session dies after 25mins - 2
hours.
Thus, I've scripted the following script 'get_me.sh'
#!/bin/sh

Configure Ubuntu Server 16.04 for icecast2
Bonjour,
*Upload: 282.95 Mbit/s*
is going to choke at about 5 listeners *
*
You need a streaming server provider.
https://shoutca.st/
is an example but there are many.
Don't buy 5k listeners buy 100 and see how it goes.

Configure Ubuntu Server 16.04 for icecast2
Hi BKF,
you can configure icecast to serve thousands of listeners but it's not
going to happen on anything less then an industrial strength internet
connection.
If you have ADSL you can probably handle 5 listeners maybe 10 on an
average service.
If you have VDSL increase that to 15 maybe.
If you have fibre it might do 25.
It all depends on the service provided by your ISP and the

Tracking down random server drops...
I've been fighting with a samba install on top of a amd64 Ubuntu 10.4 system
for a couple months now. I have a small flotilla of Windows systems running
anything from Win 2000 up through Windows Server 2008. All save for the
2008 systems are setup with nightly NTBackup jobs with my samba server as
the destination. The 2008 systems are running MS SQL and use the samba
server as the

Copy 100gb+ file over LAN?
Hopefully this is not too off topic.
I have a server in which I'm creating an Exchange Information Store
backup using ntbackup. The .bkf file it creates is 112GB. My goal was
first to rsync it over to a local linux server, and then rsync just the
changes over the internet to another linux server. I do this with other
Exchange .bkf files (in the 4GB to 20GB range) and it seems to work well

winbind problems
I had to move an existing member server to new hardware. Using getent
on this Debian Jessie system, I cannot get winbind to retrieve the
domain users, except for administrator, guest, tsinternetuser, and krbtgt.
Although none of my other working systems have it, I added the
"dedicated keytab", "kerberos method", and "winbind refresh tickets"
parameters to match

Configure Ubuntu Server 16.04 for icecast2
Hi all,
First of all, thank you for supporting us.
I've installed Libretime (https://github.com/LibreTime/libretime) which
user Icecast2 on Ubuntu Server 16.04.
I've also developed a mobile application to listen to stream
myhost:8000/mount.
My problem is when the number of listeners increases up 500 (On live
streaming with butt), the application blockes, and I hardly get info from

Using Backup from Windows -> Samba : >4GB file limit?
Hi,
I was backup up my laptop the other day, and the Windows backup utility said
it was going to do about 17GB of data - and I was dumping this to a Samba
share from my Linux machine. However, it looks like the data wrapped around
when it got past 4GB. Not really sure what happened though. When I saw
that the .bkf file was smaller (the next morning) that what a previous 'ls -l'

3.0.1pre3 - date/time discrepancy in the log
I'm using the very latest 'version 3.0.1pre3 protocol version 30', on
both ends, and have seen a date/time discrepancy in the log on the
receiver. The sending machine (machineA) is in US CDT while the receiver
is in US PDT. Both sender and receiver have their time set correctly.

three timestamps are correct:)

large files
I'm reposting this problem (perhaps a bug) now I've got more information on
it. This is another point of view of the situation and I hope someone could
have run into the same trouble before (and solved it :-))
This is it:
* with ntbackup 2000 I create a 22Gb .bkf file in the windows machine.
* I can copy that file over a samba share and get correct info form the
file in windows

Large backup files from ntbackup to a samba share
Hi all,
I'm experiencing a problem when NTBACKING'UP my W2000 Server files against
a Linux 2.4.9 + ReiserFS 3.6 file system + Samba share.
It works OK for the first 4 Gb's around file size. Then ntbackup stops
serving data and the file on the samba side appears to be downsized to 0 and
growing ssssslowly. Once you stop ntbackup by killing the process, the file
reappears at its real
