NCP, nprint and ncpfs
Hi everyone, I tried to use yum to search for ncpfs-2.2.1-1.i386.rpm, but it couldn't find it. I googled and found this package is included with redhat, but i'm not sure if it's included with CentOS 4.2. Any idea where I can find and install it using yum? Thanks JC

Samba problems after intalling ncpfs
Hi! My problem is that Samba doesn't work after installing ncfs. I have Samba 1.9.18p10 and ncpfs 2.0.10. I've succesfully installed ncpfs. After that I check it by "slist" and get my Novell server. I mount Novell volume by ncpmount - all ok. But after that my Samba doesn't work. I can see Samba/Linux box in Network neibourhood with correct title "Linux Samba

Revisiting slow explorer.exe connections
Hi: I recently encountered a problem reading directories via an XP Pro client shared from a samba server (redhat's rpm samba-2.2.7-5.8.0). File listing was sometimes VERRRY slow. It was not a DNS issue in this case. The symptoms, and my fix is below, but I wanted to ask, is there a way to deal with this from the server? (I dunno- like redirecting port 80 or something). >From the client,

webDAV (webclient) interferes with XP logons
Very long story short... 1. Samba server on machine running iptables or behind a firewall 2. Client XP domain logins taking 45 seconds or more. 3. The problem: webDAV (webclient) is running on the XP workstations and this mysteriously triggers access to port 80 on the file server, which in turn adds up to long delays. If you are running an HTTP server and it isn't blocked then

rsync output -vv differs with dry-run option
I'm trying to figure out if a file has changed since the last rsync call. I use the following command line: rsync -cvv /mnt/xxx/vol1/dbase/100/kunden.dbf /mnt/label | grep "^total: " | sed -e 's/.* data=//' This gives a 0 if the file is unchanged and the file size if the file has changed. Adding the "dry-run" option "n" to the command line always

Samba and the WinXP WebClient
Hi! We've had horrible performance when opening files from out Samba server with OpenOffice.org on some of our XP machines (not on all, I might add). Also, the general file transfers (copy to/from server) were fast and adequate. Then I had stumbled upon the Samba HOWTO which mentioned turning off this "WebClient" service on WinXP. I'm just rather curious, why does this

RE: XP Pro timeout; we have a winner - webclient service
Thanks to Jason Balicki for the correct fix to this problem. The 'webclient' service in Windows XP, somehow interferes with access to the Samba server. With the service stopped and disabled, the clients are working again. Wierd interaction between Samba and HTTP?
Hi, O/S: Fedora Core 6 When running samba-3.0.24-1 (downloaded from Samba WWW site), all is well. But when updating Samba via 'yum update' to samba-3.0.24-5.fc6, things get bad. Things are equally bad when I try the next BETA release of Samba. When things don't work, I try to mount a share from Windows, like: net use z: \\<host>\jeff and it fails. When it fails, I

Documentation updates...
Hi all, Just a couple of suggestions for documentation updates. First of all, perhaps you should include the following about Windows XP and slow logons/long delays in opening files: Windows XP and slow network logons/long delays in opening files =============================================================== Windows XP includes a WebDav client that attempts to open shares via HTTP. Windows XP --> Samba = A-ok! Samba --> Windows XP = Excruciatingly SLOW
Hi All, I've installed and configured Samba 2.2.8a on my FreeBSD 4.8 RELEASE box and ALMOST everything seems to be working fine. My only real issue is that copying files from my BSD box to my WinXP box on my switched 100TX network averages about 1 MB per minute in transfer speeds. I've done some comparisons by copying similar sized files from other Windows machines to my workstation and

WinXP - Samba 3.0.0 performance frustration
Hi folks A few weeks of tinkering have gotten me nowhere, I think I must be barking up the wrong tree or just plain barking mad. Moving files between a Windows XP laptop and a Debian Sid (samba 3.0.0-debian) machine over a switched 100MB network is extremely slow, of the order of 3k per second. I have tried the socket options recommended and various combinations and permutations of those,
