Competing-risks nomogram
Hi R users, I'd like to draw a nomogram using a competing-risks regression (crr function in R), rather than a cox regression. However, the nomogram function provided in the Design package is not good for this purpose. Do you have any suggestion. I really appreciate your help Many thanks F.Abdollah, MD San-Raffele hospital Milan, Italy -- View this message in context:

Set font and size in xterm
I have a situation where gnome console does not handle vt102 escape sequences properly and therefor need to employ xterm instead. When I run xterm from a gnome terminal window I am presented with an extremely small terminal window employing an almost unreadably small font. I have attempted to set the font size using xrdb and a custom .Xresources file. I can change the colour scheme. I can

[SOLVED] Win NT 4.0 SP4 access to Samba 1.9.16p9
Hello folks - back on April 2nd I asked why my NT 4.0 with SP4 computer wouldn't connect to my old copy of Samba (1.9.16p9), while my neighbour's NT 4.0 with SP3 computer did just fine. This was in the case of a read-write share that only myself and my neighbour had access to under our user names. A read-only share worked just fine on both our computers. Thanks to Herb Lewis & Jan

SUM: After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hi everybody - Yesterday, I said that my Windows 98 & 95 computers couldn't connect to my Samba shares after upgrading from version 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6, while my NT 4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers could, even though I had the same user names & passwords on all the machines (UNIX, Win'9x, NT). I re-read the "What's New in Samba 2.0.6" document this morning, and found

winhelp.exe - tiny, unreadable fonts (SOLVED)
The default wine help reader, winhelp.exe, seems to have only a single font that it will display help files with. Unfortunately, this font appears really tiny and unreadable on my 1600x1200 screen. And there seems to be no easy way to change this font without diving in to the source (which is what I ultimately did). In what follows I will first describe my unsuccessful attempts to increase

After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hello everyone - I just upgraded from Samba 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6 last week. Samba is running on my Digital UNIX 4.0E (aka Tru64 aka OSF1) workstation, and I have various Win'95, Win'98, and NT 4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers accessing the Samba shares. One share is read-only, and one is read/write to specific users (I've included my smb.conf file below). If a users accesses the

Old Samba 1.9.16p9, NT 4.0 SP3 & NT 4.0 SP4, read-write problems
Hello list. I've been running an old version of Samba (1.9.16p9) to give read-only access to my Digital UNIX 4.0B workstation hard drives (the share is called "rootdir"). It's worked great for over 2 years for that purpose. I finally want to give read-write access to 2 users (myself and my assistant). Her computer has NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3. Mine has NT 4.0 with Service

Best style to organize code, namespaces
Hi all, I'm hoping someone could tell me what best practices are as far as keeping programs organized in R. In most languages, I like to keep things organized by writing small functions. So, suppose I want to write a function that would require helper functions or would just be too big to write in one piece. Below are three ways to do this: ################### Style 1 (C-style)

Quoting column names, postgres and legacy databases
Hi I''m building a Rails app that intereacts with several legacy databases, all on Postgres 7.4 and running into a few quirky problems. I seem to have a lot of inconsistencies w/ quoting field names in Postgres. I''ve written another app from scratch using Postgres and encountered quoting trouble there too. But it seemed tied to the machine I was serving the app from.
