LVM and kickstarts ?
Hey,
Can anyone tell me why option 1 works and option 2 fails ? I know I
need swap and such, however in trouble shooting this issue I trimmed
down my config.
It fails on trying to format my logical volume, because the mount point
does not exist (/dev/volgroup/logvol)
It seems that with option 2, the partitions are created and LVM is setup
correctly. However the volgroup / logvolume was not

lm/model.matrix confusion (? bug)
Dear List-members,
Hopefully someone will help through my confusion:
In order to get the same coefficients as we get from the following
##
require (MASS)
summary ( lm(Gas ~ Insul/Temp - 1, data = whiteside) )
......................
we need to do the following (if we use model.matrix to specify the model)
##
summary ( lm(Gas ~ model.matrix(~ Insul/Temp - 1) - 1, data = whiteside) )

The answer is to recompile the source tarball with a patch which appeared

OT: Jerry seems like such a polite chap
I always smile to myself when reading the replies on the mailing list from
Gerald (jerry) Carter. That cheers at the end of everything always makes it
seem that he is such a nice person. Of course half the reason I smile to
myself is the inanity of getting that impression from one word in an e-mail.
For all I know he is a complete jerk. And even the huge power lifters at

Old problem with get_file_version , Windows 2003 x64 (Jerry, you know this one!)
Jerry, All,
I am trying to get x64 drivers installed onto a Samba 3.0.24 server,
however I am getting an error that looks like it was last seen in 2005,
ie when Windows checks the driver is uploaded OK, it thinks it's not for
the correct architecture:

Problems with MS Office (Excel/Word) & Samba 3.0.11, (moved to testing 3.0.12-RC1) attn Jerry
We are running with a little over 100GB of office data, and about 200GB misc
other data shared to approximately 50 users using samba across two servers
acting as PDC and BDC to Windows 2000 & XP Pro clients. Also using roaming
profiles and ldap backend inclusive of nss_ldap and pam_ldap for the unix
side - works well except for the more recent and horribly crippling MS
Office bug.

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar.
With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though
landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of
page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a
manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try
Jerry's patch.
In another message Jerry talks about "running"

Is Winhlp32.exe supposed to work or not?
I anybody using winhlp32.exe with Wine?
I am using wine-20020327 without Windows. I have copied winhlp32.exe to
wine-c/windows directory and try to start the program there. When I try to
run "wine winhlp32.exe" it opens a window and immediately closes it. So far
I have tried Win95, Win98 and Win2k versions of winhlp32.exe with the same
result.

Is samba supposed to change file permissions ?
I have set up samba-1.9.18p10 on Sun Solaris. I have created several
shares and whenever a user edits a file it gets set to permission mode 0744,
regardless of what it was before. The file permission can than be changed
from windows using file properties.
To avoid this extra step I added a create mask = 0655 to the share
definition. Now the files get created with the correct permission,

Why isn't "<Domain>\<User>' = to <User> on PDC? Isn't it supposed to be?
When I access my PDC, via a unix service,
from a Domain client with a domain login,
the PDC attempts to validate <Domain>\<User> against the the
authentication DB, but on a mounted file system,
a user on the PDC = '<domain>\<user>' ... (which is what
I thought it should be).
But if I use 'ssh <Pdc>',
it authenticates as user 'Domain\User'
