Trivial documentation patch
Greetings. I'm not sure if this is the place or not, but I wanted to pass on this patch (against CVS as of today) to document two exit values that are used by rsync but not yet in the docs. Please let me know if there's a better place to send it. Many thanks to the developers and maintainers of rsync for all the excellent work! Jon Index: rsync.yo

[patch] exclude-from stdin
This patch causes --exclude-from and --include-from to read from STDIN when given - for a filename. This was formerly incorporated in my --link-dest patch. .rsync-/.rsync+ patch and --link-dest example
This is a patch to add an --rsync-exclude option to rsync-2.5.6cvs. File names in .rsync- (or .rsync+) are excluded (or included) from the file lists associated with the current directory and all of its subdirectories. This has advantages over --cvs-exclude for backing up large file systems since the .cvsignore files only apply to the current directory: unless the .cvsignore restrictions apply

[patch] --link-dest
Updated to current cvs without the --exclude-from - patch. This patch allows specifying a --link-dest path similar to --compare-dest except that unchanged files are hard-linked to the --link-dest path instead of producing a sparse tree. -- ________________________________________________________________ J.W. A simpler move-files patch
In an effort to get my long-desired move-files functionality into rsync, I have created a version of my patch that runs as an extra pass at the end of the processing. This results in a simpler set of changes to rsync. I still think it would be nice to have incremental deletions during large transfers (as my first patch provides), but acceptance of this patch would relegate such quibbling to a

Patch: --drop-suid Remove suid/sgid from target files
The attached patch adds an option --drop-suid which caused rsync to drop setuid/setgid permissions from the destination files. ie, even if the source file is setuid, the target file will not be. Added as we want to rsync the same files to machines both inside and outside our firewalls. For machines inside the firewall some files should be suid, for machines outside the firewalls they should

csum-length documentation
I was startled to find that the --csum-length option is not implemented even though it is documented in the manpage. Not a good thing. Here's a patch that removes the manpage entry. I'd much rather not see this option and actually have the csum_length be per-file dynamic. Either way this patch should be applied at least until the code changes. The patch also brings rsync.1 and

Typos in man page
Dear rsync people, I found four of what I believe to be typos in the rsync man page in CVS. The attached patch fixes them. [PATCH] Attempt to rewrite the description of the filter parameters in rsyncd.conf.yo.
- Collect material that applies to all daemon filters in the documentation of the "filter" parameter, and make it more complete and coherent. - Amplify the recommendation to exclude entire subtrees properly since the excluded_below check is easy to circumvent and I have proposed removing it altogether. - The `Only one "X" parameter can apply to a given module' wording

rsync connection limit
Hello! In the attached file is patch for the option to set client connection limit. We had problem for dead hosts, so default system timeout is not enough. --conlimit option added Will be great to see this patch in the future version, so we do not need to patch every time. Thanks and Cheers, Eugene. -- -------------- next part -------------- diff -Naur rsync-2.6.8/errcode.h

[PATCH] --link-dest option
Please CC me. I'm not subscribed. Attached is a patch against 2.5.4pre1 CVS current to add the --link-dest option so rsync will create hardlinks for unchanged regular files to a directory on the destination. This is like --compare-dest except that the result is not a sparse tree. Also included is extension to --(ex|in)clude-from to allow - for stdin. Could one of the maintainers please add

Updating the docs/help on the default remote shell
Since rsync can now be configured with a different default remote shell than "rsh", I think the docs should be updated a bit. Anyone object to these changes? include/exclude bug in rsync 2.6.0/2.6.1pre1
As mentioned on the rsync home page, the --files-from=FILE option in rsync version 2.6.0 is a useful option that allows one to "specify a list of files to transfer, and can be much more efficient than a recursive descent using include/exclude statements (if you know in advance what files you want to transfer)". However, --files-from does not help one implement the --rsync-exclude=FILE

[patch] add "--ignore" option
Hi, The patch below adds a "--ignore" option to rsync, which means "--exclude-but-dont-delete-even-if-we-specified--delete-excluded". I need this for a few tasks, the simplest of which is to have rsync resist trying to delete NetApp filers' ".snapshot" directories. The change is fairly simple (the boolean filter returns become tri-state), and works for me both

rsync-2.6.2: NFS clients confused after an rsync
We use rsync to update an nfs server. After an update, we noticed that a large number of clients didn't see the updated data. It took me a while to be able to reliably reproduce this problem, but it happens on old and new versions of rysnc. It also happens across all the platforms we use here (sun/linux/netapp). This shows the problem: [Note my home directory is NFS mounted]

Cygwin/rsync Hang Problem Testing Results
People of cygwin & rsync, I recently attempted to get cygwin and rsync working to solve a backup/mirroring need in my computer life. Well, as you might guess, I ran into a little but of trouble. Strangely enough, rsync seemed to be regularly hanging when I attempted to do a "get" (sycronize a remote to a local dir). Well, considering I want to automate this, that was not going
