buildkernel errors with "options SMBFS"
Hi all... another lurker and first-time poster... if I forget something relevant please let me know... Anyway, have tried to make a kernel on two different machines under the latest (as of 04:37AM 4 September 2003 -0500 (EDT)) 4.9-PRERELEASE **AND** 5.1-p2 and get the error message as shown below. rsync: readdir(.): Bad file descriptor (9)
Hi, I've spent the better part of three weeks tracking into this problem. I hope you don't mind a post here on smbfs, but I was hoping someone might have some insight or ideas on where to look next. Summary: trying to rsync folders across an smb mounted share with EXACTLY 50 objects (folder or files), results in the error rsync: readdir(.): Bad file descriptor (9) Details The problem

killing "uninterruptible sleep" process
Hi I logged in to one of my servers today and noticed that the load average is very high. After investigating the problem I found two processes in "D" stat ("uninterruptible sleep"): root 24344 0.0 0.2 1532 584 ? Leopard Macs using Kerberos: Failed to parse negTokenTarg
I think I've found out why MacOS 10.5.x (Leopard) clients are unable to connect to Samba shares when authenticating with Kerberos. Basically, the Leopard Macs insert a few extra bytes (Padding and reqFlags, according to wireshark) into the security blob within the Session Setup AndX Request packet, bytes whose start tag is 0xa1, in a spot where Samba's parser expects 0xa2. The critical

A samba share mounted multiple times cannot be unmounted without root
Hello, recently I've ran into the problem that if a user mounts a share multiple times, then it cannot be mounted, except by root. Here is the relevant fstab line: //sephiroth/E /home/unity/Sephiroth smbfs ro,users, noauto 0 0 A user can mount and unmount the fs fine: unity@oaklandgardens ~ $ cd ~unity/ unity@oaklandgardens ~ $ mount Sephiroth/ Password: unity@oaklandgardens ~ $ mount |

RE: [PATCH] smbfs readdir fix (CFT: NetApp, OS/2)
Vlad. I still got the same problem - 'ls | wc -l' returned incorretc numbers. I installed the following patches with the sequence vs. the kerner 2.4.18: 1. 00-smbfs-2.4.18-codepage.patch.gz 2. 01-smbfs-2.4.18-lfs.patch.gz 3. 02-smbfs-2.4.18-unicode.patch.gz 4. smbfs-2.4.19-pre9-readdir.patch After installed patches, I ran 'make modules' and so on. Any more

Is mount_smbfs broken in 6.1-PRERELEASE?
Anyone know if mount_smbfs is broken in 6.1, I'm trying to run this: "mount_smbfs -I 192.168.1.2 //nbritton@192.168.1.2/music2 /mnt/network/music/" And then it asks for my password, I type it in, and then I get this error: "mount_smbfs: unable to open connection: syserr = Authentication error" I've had this same problem on another 6.1 box too... I can run this same

smbmount hangs Linux if Windows server goes down
Hello. My linux box mounts a Windows filesystem as an smbfs entry in /etc/fstab. I found that, if the hosting Windows box goes down for some reason (Imagine that!), any process on the Linux box that was accessing it hangs forever in state D and cannot be killed. How can I configure smbmount so that it will timeout and return errors rather than hang forever? I have scoured the web for

Issue with mounted drive
We are having a problem remounting a Windows network share. Our server is running RHEL4 ES that mounts a Windows network shares as a drive. The Windows network shares are on Windows 2003 servers. The network share can be mounted but when the Windows 2003 servers are rebooted, the mounted drives goe down. I try to reissue the mount commands but it doesn't work, it sits there and eventually

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

Samba 3.0.5 cannot mount Windows 2003 shares
I'm having a real hair-raising problem here and I thought maybe someone could help. At least I hope so. My workstation was running 3.0.2a, upgraded to 3.0.5. After upgrading to 3.0.5, I can no longer mount shares on my 2003 server. This started happening on an upgrade to 3.0.4 as well, I might add. Permissions-wise: I own the directory mounts on the local Linux workstation,

mounts hanging during shutdown of system
I have a similar line in my network script, for the same reason. THIS problem is different. I cannot umount those shares after the windows machine goes down, no matter what commands I try. Unmounting Samba shares first...
Hi Mikkel! Yes, of course. Why didn`t I see this? Simple solution. Thank you very much for that hint! smbmount on redhat 9
I use samba in a very limited application to mount smb shares using smbmount. I have a simple script I use that mounts several shares to a variety of mount points as a specific user on my system. The script passes username, password, share, mount point, domain information to each call to smbmount. This script worked perfectly under redhat 8.0 but since upgrading to redhat 9 I have had some

[OT] *nix Server/Windows Client Tips and tricks
Sorry if this is too off topic, but one of the things that happens when you use a *nix box is you have opportunities to do some nifty tricks with shell scripts and whatnot to help maintain your network. Sometimes, this comes at the expense of using the tools that come with some windows software and is the result of necessity. Other times, this comes because the "nifty" tools that come

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
I have a problem with smbmount. I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp). Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I must upgrade that sometime soon). We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith server, whereas

Re: Rsync with smbfs filesystem and character s like é - updated from version on RSync List
Unfortunately that didn?t work for me! I think there may be a bug somewhere although its possible that I have done something wrong somewhere. My reason for saying this is everything works perfectly when the windows machine is "uploading" the files but not when rsync is copying them.
