Filename character translation
Hi,
I came across the problem with rsync-2.5.5 on Cygwin/Win2K while rsyncing
with filenames which have 'strange' (non latin-1) characters in filenames.
The problem is that filenames on Windows system are coded (in our case) in
codepage 852, while server (Linux system) has filename coding according to
ISO-8859-2. This two are not fully compatible, causing rsync to simply skip
copying some

In the mean time, it had been chewing up bandwidth.
One file, I had tried to download by mistake.
Don't remmeber what I did with it on purpose.

100% CPU when running (cran2deb) JGR on Debian
Dear all,
I installed the amd64 cran2deb [1] JGR binaries on a fresh Debian
testing, and JGR is missbehaving. When JGR starts up, one core of the
CPU goes to 100% and stays there, even though I am keeping it idle and
not performing any operation.
I tried JGR with both sun-java6-jdk and openjdk-6-jdk,
debian-liv:/home/liviu# update-alternatives --config java
There are 4 choices for the alternative

Improving RPM packaging for R; ideas gathered from the Debian folks
Hi, everybody.
I've got some Centos Linux systems and some Ubuntu Linux systems. R's
basically the same in either place, but the packaging of R for Debian
systems seems better to me than it is on Fedora/Redhat/Centos.
I joined R-sig-debian and we talk about package management issues
there sometimes. One of the really handy R packaging ideas they have
is to customize R environment so

Hi,
2nd problem when using rsync on NT: rsync can't handle filenames with "strange" characters in the filename; no remote system needs to be involved here, happens even rsync between two local directories:
$ rsync -av /cygdrive/c/data/transfer/Marisa/ Marisa/

DB Admin Console
Over the past few months, I''ve developed an administrative console for
databases in the process of solving other problems.
At the moment, the state of development is:
* Going to /admin_panel/model will bring you to a list of items in the
model:
* Supports acts_as_list via drag/drop sorting
* Supports "activated" via an activated/deactivated button

plain source -> encrypted destination: rsync + gpg
We want to keep a backup or a mirror of your files in a server we don't
fully trust. You can have an encrypted FS on a file, and copy the
complete FS to the untrusted server, but it is inefficient, and you get
no granularity at all.
In our case, the remote server runs amanda, and we want to use amanda's
power to restore files selectively -- yet don't give away our privacy.

FileListBox with VisualBasic 5.0 displays only Filenames shorter than 8 character
Hello,
FileListBox with VisualBasic 5.0 (32Bit) and NT4.0SP3 displays only
Filenames shorter than 8 character. I am using Samba1.9.18.p3. The problem
doesn't occur if the connected services is on an NT-Plattform.
Does anybody know a solution to this problem. Or hasn?t anybody had this
problem yet and am I just goofed ?

Fwd: R unzip method gives filenames as character
Question: would it be better if the contents list of the unzip() function
returned the filenames as character rather than factor since they are
probably unique strings?

How to handle special characters in filenames
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.0.21 on a FC 4 box.
I'm connecting to Win XP pro clients.
Using smbclient I can get and put files which contain '%' in file names.
Using libsmbclient smbc_open this is not possible. I get 'No such
file or directory Errno::ENOENT' error.
Any ideas how to solve this.
I guess it has to do with escaping special characters in smb urls but

The truncate_inode_page call in ocfs_file_release causes the severethroughput drop of file reading in OCFS2.
Hi,
We have investigated the possible causes of the severe
throughput drop of file reading in OCFS2 that found in the iozone
benchmark. We find the major cause is the inadequate inode page cache
cleaning when open or close the last reference to an inode.
In routine ocfs_file_release(), if the caller is the last
reference to this inode, truncate_inode_page is called to invalidate all
