Automating cupsaddsmb or some alternative
I am developing a print server for a client, and I need to make the ability
to add and configure print servers as simple as possible. So far, cups and
samba are top notch, but there are two problems I have.
One, I need to restart the samba service every time I add a printer.
Two, I need to log in via console or SSH to run cupsaddsmb, and I need to
then authenticate.
I was wondering if there was

Painfully slow writes in MS-DOS
Hey folks,
I was having a problem at work with Samba 2.2.3a (SuSE 8.0) as well as a Redhat machine I know nothing about and an HP Workstation station I know nothing about.
Each had painfully slow writes from dos clients (for using Norton Ghost). I tried many machines, many nics, and even played with different hubs. All caused problems. I even tried VM-Ware to VM-Ware.
I have Samba 2.2.4 at

File won't copy to client
This is strange, but I use samba for a software archive at work, and we are having trouble with Office 97. I traced it back to riched20.dll. The file is one the server, but it never copies. I can't even see the file. If i rename it, it shows up.
What is up with that?

Reason for slow MS-DOS MS client writes
The low speed of writes with the MS-DOS, MS newtworking client has to do with
the limit of MAXSENDSIZE (from TCPUTILS.INI)
By default, the value is 1024, but the maximum value is 2048. If this value
is not set to the same as the Samba server's SO_RCVBUF, then performence will
suffer GREATLY.
We had a Windows system hosting Norton Ghost images, but it took a dive, and

--fake-super and xattr between Linux and Solaris 10
Hello trusty rsync list,
I'm excited about --fake-super as it will replace too much work with none at
all. I have gotten it to work under linux and I have a fair grasp with what
is happening there. I have a problem, though, and that is, in the long
term, I'll need to archive my Linux systems not to a Linux box, but to a
Solaris 10 box. I understand that Solaris does have extended

Supermicro PDSME+ and TE110P [ ref:00D36mPe.50033qy57:ref ] NEW CASE 22828
Hello,
Digium support kindly proposed to ship a TE120P card to help resolve the
issue.
I plugged in the card, and introduced the loopback plug. I cleared the
red alarm for a while and then i started seeing alarm switching from
Yel/Recovering to Blue/Rec with a lot of IRQ Misses.
I call Digium that assisted us, and we noticed IRQ sharing with the VGA
adapter and the Ethernet port.

[Slightly OT] server headers
I finally got my blog running on Apache 2.2.2 & Mongrel 0.3.13.3
(clustered). Whew! Two whole flippin'' days trying to get virtual hosts
and proxies and permissions (& svn) to work together.
Anyway, I''ve got the little server header thingy extension in Firefox.
When I browse my blog, it shows
the mongrel headers. Is there a quick fix for this?

SystemShock2+Wine: mon. rez out of range/loss of keyboard
I just discovered that SS2 has been tested in wine and apparently runs pretty well, so I decided to give it a shot. I intalled it from cd using the guidelines given in the AppDB, ie: i used the -ltngforce method of install, I installed the SS2Tool patch, and disabled cutscenes.
Each time I run it fullscreen, the main menu is always set to 640x480, and that causes my monitor to bug out, saying

cd0/1a device became invalid between Sep 2 and Oct 1
Hi,
just noticed that I can't mount anything anymore on the cd[01]a devices
anymore. The cd[01]c devices work correctly, as does the acd[01]a device.
These are an ATAPI dvd writer (cd0) and a dvd player(cd1) trough cam(4).
This applies to both dvd and cd media. Remaking the device through MAKEDEV has
no influence. Nothing reported by dmesg.

"memdisk + FreeDOS + Ghost" fail to work
Hi,
I'd like to create a bootable CD to run Ghost. Before generating the
.iso, I tested it on a system with a FAT partition and had
syslinux-4.05 installed. However it failed.
Here are the steps :
1. copied "memdisk" to the FAT partition.
2. as my copy of Ghost (v11.50 from solution suite v2.5) no longer
fits on a single floppy, I created a "large" floppy image of size

Error: cannot route packet - please help
Hi,
I?m fighting with a silly problem: my syslog tells me tinc cannot route
a packet. I can use a telnet or the good ol ping, it is the same effect.
When I?m pinging from the laptop (172.16.11.2) the network address
(172.16.11.0) or any address numerically lower than the laptops address,
the packet gets routed, otherwise not. And when I ping the network
address, I get the reply twice, as to be

SUN Storage 7310 with RHEL 5.5 / Centos 5.5 and multipathed root, again.
Dear all,
After some trouble finding the right multipath.conf, I'm running Centos
5.5 against the SUN 7310 more or less successfully now. Unfortunately one
issue remains:
the SUN 7310 has two storage heads, H1 and H2, which are in a
active/passive configuration. If I define a LUN on H1, everything works
great. I edit multipath.conf, re-create the initrd and I find 8 paths with
