rsync script from homepage: trouble
Hello, I'm new to this and am trying to modify the "backup to a central backup server with 7 day incremental" script from http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/examples.html to suit my situation. I have ended up with the script attached below and when running it from command line I get these errors: rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at main.c(726) and a plethora of this >

rsync incremental backup problem with --backup-dir switch
Hello, I am using rsync v2.5.6 to backup our entire server filesystem over the network to a central backup server. I have copied the example script from the rsync website (http://rsync.samba.org/examples.html) to create incremental backups, the --backup-dir seems to have a strange side-effect. Everything goes well, but on the server side where the backup is stored I can't seem to break out

Back-up differences. Raspberry Pi and Fedora
I am using the 'backup to a central backup server with 7 day incremental' example to archive three separate computers to identically configured (apart from name) shares on a Western Digital 'MyBookLive' NAS which has rsync enabled. The backup from two Raspberry Pi Computers operates without a problem but the backup from a Fedora 32 computer fails with an 'unknown module

Compiz Key binding and application key bindings
Hi, Suppose I have a compiz key-binding (let's say Ctrl and +) that performs a particular action (let's say maximization) and the current active application (say xterm) also does something with the same key-binding (zoom in xterm) - compiz handles the event and does not pass it on to the application. Is this desired behavior? Is the behavior configurable? Shouldn't compiz handle it

Sort of data.frame yields a thing which is not a data.frame...
I've observed something I don't understand, and I was hoping someone could point me to the right section of docs. There's a portion in one of my analyses in which I am wont to sort a data.frame so: seriesS <- seriesS[order(as.Date(row.names(seriesS),format="%m/%d/%Y")),] So, I've got row.names which are textual representations of dates, I'd like to retain them

HELP: need better understanding of "--delete" flag
Need to understand exactly what the "--delete" flag does when rsync runs. Here is my understanding... If a file is created on the source machine on monday, then rsync'd to the rsync server on monday night, then deleted on the source machine tuesday, then it will be deleted from the rsync server on tuesday night when the cron job runs again. But, would rsync under any circumstances,

Rsync && ssh && passwordless
I'm attempting to setup rsync to do backups of a remote system. I'd like to make it passwordless. The trouble I'm running into is I run sshd with PermitRootLogin Off for obvious security reasons. This means that I can't use rsync over ssh to the root user. Instead what I thought of was sshing to the machine I want to backup via a seperate user that is added to the sudoers file and

Odp: Currency return calculations
My mistake sir. I was literally engrossed in my stupid logic, and while doing so, overlooked the simple and very effective solution you had offered. Sorry once again sir and will certainly try to be very careful in future. Thanks again and have a great weekend sir. Sorting data.frame datewise in a descending order
Dear 'HTH' R friends I have a small dataframe as given below. I need to sort this database based on date in a decending order. I am not sure whether I have defined the date column in a proper format. mydat<-data.frame(date = (c("1/31/2010", "2/28/2010", "3/31/2010", "4/30/2010", "5/31/2010", "6/30/2010",

gtools(read.xls) error in perl installation?
My installation is R version 2.4.0 on Mac OS X version 10.4.8 (the latest release in both cases). I've recently had to restore my hard drive after a crash, and fear that this may have screwed up my Perl installation slightly. Whenever I run the read.xls function from library(gtools) I get the following errors: ###################### > file =

significance levels for partial correlations?
I've seen that this question has been asked before, in the archives, but I haven't been able to find a workable answer. This may be a failure to understand the statistics! The problem is that, while I can easily get partial correlation values out of corpcor, how do I get significance values? Surely the significance of a partial correlation between two variables isn't the
