finding "chuncks" of data that have no NA s
I have a data frame that is 122 columns and 70000ish rows it is a zoo
object, but could be easily converted or read in as something else. It is
multiparameter multistation water quality data - there are a lot of NA s. I
would like to find "chuncks" of data that are free of NA s to do some
analysis. All of the data is numeric. Is there a way besides graphing to
find these NA less

reshape (a better way)
Hi,
I am using the NLSY79 data (longitudinal data from the Bureau of labour
stats in the US). The extractor exctracts this data in a "wide" format and
I need to reshape it into a long format.
What I am doing right now is to do it in chuncks for each and evry
variable that is varying and then I merge the data together. This is
taking a long time. my question is:
How do I specify that

I am using Sweave to produce handouts for teaching.
Is there a way of making Sweave keep the comments following the `#' in
the code chuncks?
Thanks,

in/exclude[=] and multiple sources
I have been using rsync on and off for years, but it still has the ability to throw me on more occasions than I care to admit:-) Currently I am trying to obtain a better understanding of the --include and --exclude options. Even though I think I have a pretty good understanding of the basic mechanics of these options and can usually get things to work as I want, there are a couple of issues that

how to abort when can't write to the destination?
Dear Rsyncers,
I'm trying to maintain a mirror of Ubuntu distribution and I had a cron
job which rsynced it every night. The problem came after last reboot a
few days ago -- destination directory wasn't mounted, thus wasn't
accessible by rsync for writing:
rsync: failed to set times on "/share/ubumirror/.": Operation not permitted (1)
rsync: recv_generator: mkdir

Possibility so that --max-size AFFECTS --delete ?
Hello rsyncers!
PRACTICAL CIRCUMSTANCES:
Backup1 shall be identical to Original. My traditional custom. NO HELP
NEEDED for this.
Backup2 shall only be a subset of the original, only files with a
certain maximum size and filename/suffix pattern get included. For
this I use rsync's filename filters and size limitations! HELP NEEDED
here! Thanks!
QUESTION:
Is there a possibility, so

Multi-core processing in glmulti
Dear list,
I am trying to do an automated model selection of a glmm (function glmer;
package: lme4) containing a large number of predictors. As far as i
understand, glmulti is able to devide the process into chuncks and proceed
by parallel processing on on multiple cores. Unfortunately this does not
seem to work and i could not really fid any advice on the matter on other
forums. Specifically i

dpaste, pastebin etc. Syntax highlighting for R?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
There are many sites to get bite-sized chuncks of code.
The nice thing is that they use syntax highlighting.
Examples:
http://dpaste.com/
http://pastie.org/
http://pastebin.com/
Twitter with a link to a syntax highlighting site would do wonders.
There are plugins for most (good) editors to post directly to the site
from the editor.

How to exclude directories from getting their metadata updated? (Macintosh HFS+ with rsync 3.0.5)
Hello everyone!
FOREWORD:
I respect your time and resources, I hope to not bother people on this
mailinglist!
To my defense: This question is far easier towards humans than to
mailinglist and web search-engines as the search terms in relation to
each other are highly in-causal or paradoxical, and hence lead to poor
results. Of course the manpage was the first place where I looked

New feature: detect and avoid transfering renamed files
Hello rsyncers,
I have long wished for a feature in rsync to detect files that have
renamed on the sender side since the last time a sync was performed,
and avoid transfering those files to the destination the same way it
avoids transfering files that haven't changed.
Example 1: a log directory (like /var/log) is backed up every day. Most
of the time, rsync transfers very little data, but

KERNEL BUG: lseek() broken on raw devices
Hi,
I just figured FreeBSD will happily write data (disk blocks) from byte
#0 even after successful lseek(fd, 17, SEEK_SET) returned 17, at least
on da(4) partitions such as rda0s1f. Tested on 4.9-PRERELEASE checked
out early Sep 5th.
I'd suggest that lseek to a non-sector boundary returns either (off_t)-1
and EINVAL (preferred) or at least returns the actual position (though

Sweave in png
Hello list,
Here is a problem I had. I write this to the list in case the solution I
found would be useful to anyone else.
I had to Sweave document including pixmap pictures, which are very heavy
when converted into pdf pictures. In practice, this eventually led to
very heavy pdf, sometimes impossible to read. So the first solution I
found was to save pictures in png, when too heavy in pdf :
