Syncing file with reference to another one
I have the following situation: file2 on remote host and file1 on
localhost. file1 and file2 are mostly the same. Simply running
rsync remotehost:file2 file2
will actually transfer the entire file. But I would like to use the
factt that I have local file1 that is mostly similar to file2. I.e.
how can I make rsync to use file1 as a reference while transferring
file2? (cp file1 file2 locally and

I seem to have found a bug in 5.8p1.
I work remotely, and use three SSH tunnels, two of the form ssh -L
port:host:destport -f -N -q -l remoteuser remotehost, and one of the
form ssh -D port -f -C -q -N -l

--files-from=FILE problem
Hello,
I am trying to use the "--files-from=FILE" option with rsync version "version 2.6.3 protocol version 28" When I try to use the following syntax, it returns a syntax or usage error:
rsync -azrv --files-from=/home/dira/filelist.txt remoteuser@remotehost:/remotedir
I am also trying to use ssh with this which obviously yields an error also since the

Newbie question on Rsync on Solaris
I want to replicate between two Solaris hosts. The source is Solaris 2.6
and the target is Solaris 2.8. Using rsh, the basic program seems fine (not
running in daemon mode), but I have a problem.
The directory tree is about 150,000 files, with about 5 gb of data. I
tar'd the directory and moved it to the other side, but when I run an rsync
against that directory, it still wants to move

rsync in conjunction with the --link-dest option does not output deleted files
Hi,
I want to use rsync to make daily backups using hard-links in this way:
rsync -av --delete --link-dest=../backup_old ./source/. ./backup_new
This works great, but the problem is, that rsync does not show correctly
what action it performs (-v option). It shows correctly all new and
changed files/folders, but it does not show files that were deleted.
This works only if I do not use the

dovcot+offlineimap+gmail: INBOX empty, mail doubled
Hello
I have used for years
offlineimap-6.2.0
dovecot-imapd 1:1.2.9
in Kubuntu 10.04
Together with a imap server of my university. Yesterday we
switched to google, which I know, is not a real imap server.
I have 2 problems and the first I think has to do with
either an old version of offlineimap or a bad configuration file:
- All folders are downloaded+ Gmail[All Mail] so

2 300 301 name3
3 400 401 name4
3 500 501 name5
4 600 601 name6

utils::unzip ignores overwrite argument, effectively
It does give a warning, but then it overwrites the files, anyway.
Reproducible example below.
This is R 3.4.3, but it does not seem to be fixed in R-devel:

FYI,
G?bor
dir.create(tmp <- tempfile())
setwd(tmp)
cat("old1\n", file = "file1")
cat("old2\n", file

Building R package with .c sub-routine files
Lets say I have two source files file1.c and file2.c
The latter just contains sub-routines to be used by the first. i.e. in file1.c I
have the line
#include "file2.c"
Let's say "R CMD SHLIB file1.c" runs perfectly and I want to include the code in
a package, "R CMD build" also runs fine but R CMD check" gives

IMAP Migration Tools
Hi,
I am looking for tools to migrate Mails from one IMAP-Server to
another. Until now I have always used imapsync, but it seems very
slow. Even over a 2x10GB/s connection I only get speeds of about
600KiB/s, because the programm always pauses betweeen every single
mail.
Does anyone here have a suggestion for an alternative?
Thanks in advance

silent data loss with samba and lack of rename() locking
Just want to emphasize this particular bug, since it is serious enough,
even if apparently this mode isn't used often.
Having a samba server S, a windows client W and a linux client L,
and two files on S, file1 and file2.
1. On W, mount the share and lock file1
(eg. if it is executable, start it).
2. On L, mount the share and try to remove (rm) file1.
This will hang because the file

Source inside source
Is there a way to know where is the source, so as to make a source call
inside another source smarter?
As an example:
file1.R is in directory /files/dir1/
file2.R is in directory /files/dir1/dir2/
In file1.R, there is this line:
source("dir2/file2.R")
So, if I setwd to /files/dir1/, and then I call source("file1.R"),
it will run correctly. However, if I setwd to /files,
