rsync with a single big file (100M)
Hi, Anybody knows how rsync transfer one single file if there is difference between the two files, will rsync re-transfer the whole file or only transfer the difference? In my experiment, i found rsync would retranster the whole file again if there's a difference. What I did were: I manually created a huge.txt (file size 100813288 ), run rsync command to transfer this file from server 1 to

retransfer fail of large files with inplace and broken pipe
Hi, i have to tranfer large files each 5-100 GB (mo-fri) over dsl line. unfortunately dsl lines are often not very stable and i got a broken pipe error. (dsl lines are getting a new ip if they are broken or at least after a reconnect every 24 hours) i had a script which detect the rsync error and restart the transmission. this means that if a file has transfered e.g. 80 % i start again from

rsync as a bakcup tool and the case of rotated logs
Hello, I use rsync (among many other things) as an incremental backup tool. Every night I save /{home,etc,var} from several servers. On one of them we keep 52 weeks of system logs, so each time syslog is rotated all old syslog.x.gz (where x is between 1 and 213) change names. This impacts our backup transfers because the incremental snapshot now has to include all syslog.x.gz files even though

New feature: detect and avoid transfering renamed files
Hello rsyncers, I have long wished for a feature in rsync to detect files that have renamed on the sender side since the last time a sync was performed, and avoid transfering those files to the destination the same way it avoids transfering files that haven't changed. Example 1: a log directory (like /var/log) is backed up every day. Most of the time, rsync transfers very little data, but

[PATCH] Inplace option for rsync
Mark, The patch seems to cause problems if there are any transfer interruptions (as mentioned in the comments in the patch). However, even on a retransfer, the earlier partially transferred file is not fixed, although the client appears to think the transfer has completed successfully. This appears to be a serious bug. Note: Both client and server have the inplace patch, and on Linux platforms

IE problem with submit_tag
I''m having some difficulty with IE8 on a Rails 2.3.5 app. I''ll state from the outset that this problem does not occur with Firefox, Chrome, or Opera when run on the same system so I''m reasonably certain I''ve got an IE issue here. Here''s a simple description: I''m ending a Users#new form with: <p><%= submit_tag, "Sign

rsync speedup - how ?
Hello, i`m using rsync to sync large virtual machine files from one esx server to another. rsync is running inside the so called "esx console" which is basically a specially crafted linux vm with some restrictions. the speed is "reasonable", but i guess it`s not the optimum - at least i don?t know where the bottleneck is. i`m not using ssh as transport but run rsync in

Use of ogg vorbis for real time audio streaming?
Hi list! I am currently investigating the possibility of allowing musicians to collaborate over the internet -- Musician A -------> internet --------> Musician B This diagram obscures quite a lot of detail. In reality, the datapath would look more like this: Musician A ADC Compression algorithm UTP (or perhaps RTP?) IP ADSL the Internet ....<snip>..... Clearly, this link would

Ser vs. DUNDi
With all of the recent talk on the list about DUNDi, I have a question. From the outset it appears that SER is often used for high availability solutions and as a tool for almost clustering Asterisk boxes behind it. It appears to me that DUNDi is providing a lot of this as well. Now I know DUNDi is not an application by itself to proxy SIP requests but can I hear any information out there that

Fw: PROBLEM - - COMPARING AND COMBINING two DATASETS
Dear Sirs, ? At the outset I sincerely apologize for reproducing my query to you. I also thank all of you for the solution you had provided. It has worked on the actual data I am working with. ? However, there is this peculiar problem which I had realized only after I had obtained my results. ? e.g. in the example I had attached ? A?<-?c(2, 2, 1, 3, 7, 3, 3, 1,?14, 7, 31) B?<-

Discussion about the detect-renamed patch
Hello, I heard recently about the detect-renamed patch for rsync. I was about to code something similar, I need it badly, but decided to give the patch a try first. It seems to work well but it's rename detection scheme seems to be limited. From my tests, it seems to detect that a file has changed name only if the file remains in the same base dir. It detects that a file has moved

RSpec 2 view example: render_template
On http://github.com/rspec/rspec-rails under "View specs" there''s an example describe "events/index.html.erb" do it "renders _event partial for each event" do assign(:events, [stub_model(Event), stub_model(Event)]) render view.should render_template(:partial => "_event", :count => 2) end end Is this indeed correct? [LLVMdev] ../llvm/configure fails in Cygwin with space character in path name?
On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 7:31 PM, Jim Grosbach wrote: > Why shouldn't they accept paths with spaces in them? *nix supports that, generally. So long as the paths are properly escaped in any input, things should work. If they don't, it's a bug. GNU Make doesn't handle embedded spaces: $ cat Makefile all: foo\ bar foo\ bar: foo\ bar.o $ ls foo bar.c Makefile $ make make: ***

r: integration question
hi all at the outset i must APOLOGIZE for sending the following mail. it is not R related but since there are many stats and maths buffs that use the list i decided to send the following question. integrate ((1+((y-bx)^2)/(av))*(1+(x^2)/(bv)))^(-0.5*(v+1)) over the interval 0 to inf a>0, b>0 and v>4 y treated as a constant over the real line. i could integrate the function using

names help?
I am unclear what names(x) <- does? On the outset it seems relatively clear. But what if there are already names? What if there are already names on the object and they are in a different order than specified in the names on the right hand side? I tried it and it just replaces what was there as seems the simplest approach. But doesn't that seem a little dangerous? If I swap names for a

Web page development, NVU: anybody with experience?
Hi folks, I think this *might* be a product that the CentOS-affiliated community might like to include? I decide to buy a new truck because I don't drive my 'Vette enough to justify it and I can really use a P/U. Thought I would take advantage of RoadRunner's free home page (<= 5MB) to post pics, etc. to sell it. XML, HTML, SGML, DocBook... what's a n00b to do? Still working
