merge rsync+ into rsync (was Re: rsync-2.4.7 NEWS file)
> Just curious: what about the rsync+ patch?
Thanks for the reminder.
I've just committed Jos's rsync+ patch onto the
"branch_mbp_rsyncplus_merge" branch. If it works OK and nobody
screams I will move it across onto the main tree tomorrow or
Wednesday.
I see the patch doesn't add documentation about the new options to the
man page, so we should fix that in the future.

[PATCH 00/09] arm: tools: build for arm64 and enable cross-compiling for both arm32 and arm64
The following patches shave some rough edges off the tools build system
to allow cross compiling for at least arm32 and arm64 based on the
Debian/Ubuntu multiarch infrastructure. They also add the necessary
fixes to build for arm64 (which I have only tried cross, not native).
I have posted some instructions on how to compile with these patches on
the wiki:

rsyncd listing of directories
I just took a look at the 2.5.5 codebase to see how easy it would be to
write a little driver script that downloads a big directory tree from an
rsync daemon the chunky way (get a list of a module's subdirectories and
do the transfer by subdirectory). The reason for doing this is obvious
when you have large directory trees, as is the case for many of us.
Unfortunately the way list_only is

odd behaviour change (2.6.3 > 2.6.4pre3)
Synopsis: Prior to the 2.6.4pre versions, issuing 'rsync rsync://host/module/' behaved effectively as 'ls -l'. I've toyed with various options in an attempt to get an 'ls -l' style output, but to no avail.
As I have a small handful of scripts that rely on this no-longer-functioning functionality, this could be considered a Bad Thing(TM).
Following is an example of

[PATCH][RFC] space saving incrementals
Please CC me directly as i'm not on the list.
I have attached a patch against latest CVS (cvs diff -u)
that adds the following functionality. I can break it up if
you would prefer it in pieces. Comments welcome.
o add compare-perms option
This creates a new inode for a file even if only
the perms have changed. This way if a file
outside of destdir is hardlinked to a dentry

locked binding of setwd() in R 2.15.x causes .Rprofile to fail
[Env: Win XP, R 2.14.2, R 2.15.0]
I have a replacement function for setwd() in my .Rprofile which displays
the current R path in the R window
title. It no longer works in R 2.15.x, giving the error below. Worse,
the error prevents the rest of my
.Rprofile script from completing.
Is there some way to rescue this, i.e., preserve this behavior in
R 2.15? If not, how can I modify my script so it

assignInNamespace to create a setwd() replacement: how to use unlockBinding()?
In my .Rprofile for Windows, I had the following functions defined to
mirror a few features
I miss from linux:
(a) replace setwd() with a version that stashes the current directory so
it can be easily restored
(b) writes a short version of the current R directory to the Windows
title bar: I can always see where I am,
with multiple Rgui windows.
(c) creates a cd() shorthand for setwd(), but

SEGV on FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE with 2.6.2
I'm getting a SEGV on a FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE box. The client is Solaris
9/SPARC. Both boxes run 2.6.2.
The command I'm running is:
$ rsync -arHRv --numeric-ids --delete --exclude=/opt/dist/cdrom \

If I whittle down what appears in [paths], then it works.
$ gdb rsync rsync.core

(no subject)X-forward
No "ssh -X hostname" doesn't work.
But when you "export DISPLAY=..." it works!?
I set the the Display Hack so that I can see my IP with "env" or "echo
SSH_CLIENT" when I'm connect via VPN-Tunnel and I don't know my IP in
the Net I'm connected through.

memory reduction
As those of you who watch CVS will be aware Wayne has been
making progress in reducing memory requirements of rsync.
Much of what he has done has been the product of discussions
between he and myself that started a month ago with John Van
Essen.
Most recently Wayne has changed how the file_struct and its
associated data are allocated, eliminating the string areas.
Most of these changes have been

mixed case file systems.
I am having trouble with rsync when I am trying to synchronize a Windows NT
volume mounted with smb_fs (FreeBSD) and a unix volume which is also exported
with Samba.
There are instances where the DOS short name on the NT volume ends up as upper
case and then doesn't match filenames which are used in the unix volumes which
have been exported by Samba. I don't know if this is a Samba

rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(463)
Hi,
I'm having a problem rsyncing one file (since I signed it). It seems that
the content of a file is able to cause problems in the protocol.

HFS+ resource forks: WIP patch included
As you all know, rsync doesn't have any special handling
for Mac OS X HFS+ resource forks. Kevin Boyd made RsyncX
and rsync_hfs, to address this gap, but they only work when
the destination filesystem is also HFS+. I haven't been
able to find any references to an rsync that is capable of
syncing from HFS+ to UFS (etc). The only solutions I've
seen involve lots of preprocessing

metadata in dryrun mode
As I reported a while back rsync doesn't handle metadata (permissions and
ownership) in dryrun mode.
I offered to make a patch and that offer still stands. I didn't have the
time for it until now and want to pick it up again. I had some ugly hack
back then but I want to redo it in a clean way.
I would like some input on my thoughts.
IMHO, it would be ideally if the check for dry_run

--partiall-dir not behaving like it ought too
Hi,
I have awaited the new release inorder to use the -"-partial-dir" option.
But after testing it seems that it does not behave like it says on the tin.
It will correctly move and rename the interrupted file to the declared
directory, but it will not
attempt to use it when the client attempts to rsync the file again.

Rsync time syncing problem
Hi All,
I hope someone can help me. We use Rsync to transfer files to and
from our Australian and US server and we are experiencing files being
overwritten and a few files disappearing (their contents disappear).
I have setup ntp on each machine pointing to the same ntp server and
set the hwclock to utc. We have found that the files on the US server
are x:xx:01 secs and the AU server is

Rsync synchronizes unchanged files
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I wish to use rsync to synchronize a whole fat32 (MSWindows) partition
mounted into a linux system. I run rsync from linux.
The problem is rsync synchronizes most of the data even if the data hasn't
changed since the original image was made.
I used the -avz parameters to do the backup and the same for restoration.
Also I've tried just -rvz. It
